British edge for Malaysian students

Thanks to the latest partnership between Sunway International Schools (SIS) and Magdalen College School (MCS) Oxford, students in Malaysia are set to benefit from Cambridge International Programmes that open doors to leading universities.
Through this partnership, MCS - a premier British school with a distinguished heritage spanning over five centuries and ranked within the top 1% of over 2,400 independent schools in the United Kingdom - will introduce the Waynflete Programme, an extended research initiative that helps prepare students for entry into top-tier universities in the UK.
SIS students will also have the opportunity to attend a summer camp at MCS, offering first-hand exposure to British academic culture.
To further enhance the British learning experience, bespoke spaces within the SIS campus will be purposefully designed to reflect the traditions and academic rigour of a premier British school.
The partnership also represents a major opportunity for academic development and knowledge-sharing between the two schools, benefiting both students and educators.
Sunway Education Group chief executive officer Prof Datuk Dr Elizabeth Lee said the collaboration heralds a transformative chapter in the pursuit of providing world-class education.
'This significant milestone not only enhances our educational offerings, but also paves the way for innovative approaches that will benefit students in both nations.
'We eagerly anticipate welcoming the first cohort of the A-Level programme at SIS, prestigiously endorsed and academically led by MCS, this August,' she said in a recent press release.
MCS master Helen Pike emphasised the importance of a shared commitment to academic excellence and innovation, while also embracing a holistic approach to nurturing creativity and leadership among students.
She said the partnership - MCS' first in Malaysia - is a pivotal opportunity to broaden educational horizons.
'It will allow students to engage with diverse perspectives and experiences, opening doors to a rich tapestry of cultural exchange for an enriched educational experience,' she said.
Deputy Head of Mission at the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur David Wallace said the partnership marks an exciting chapter in the UK-Malaysia transnational education journey.
'It reflects our shared commitment to fostering excellence, innovation and cultural exchange – enriching the learning journey while nurturing our next generation of leaders,' he said.
According to the press release, MCS consistently delivers exceptional academic outcomes, as proven by the 2024 A-Level results, where 95% of grades were awarded at A*-B, with 81% at A*-A and 42% at A*.
In addition, 47 students – more than a quarter of the year group – attained 3A*s or more, while 19 pupils achieved 4A*s or more.
The school's academic excellence is complemented by outstanding pastoral care and celebrated achievements across sports, music, art and drama, it added.

Sanctions were also imposed on Litasco Middle East DMCC for its continued role in shipping large volumes of Russian oil, the government said. The Russian embassy in London did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on the latest sanctions. Moscow has previously called Western sanctions illegal and said they destabilise global energy markets. On Friday, the European Union agreed an 18th package of sanctions against Russia over its war in Ukraine, including measures aimed at dealing further blows to the Russian oil and energy industry. As part of that, the EU and Britain set out plans to lower the crude oil price cap from $60 per barrel to $47.60 to disrupt Russia's oil revenues. Ensure accountability in deals flagged by A-G, says TI-M

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) has urged the government to ensure accountability after the Auditor-General's Report 2025 flagged issues involving several projects worth hundreds of millions of ringgit. TI-M president Raymon Ram said the report unveiled irregularities and systemic weaknesses in financial management and procurement oversight, necessitating structural reforms. Raymon said such issues were not new and had been repeatedly flagged by the audit department, but they had continued because of outdated procedures, weak oversight and a culture of impunity. 'Where is the accountability for all these lapses? 'The government must take a firm stance and hold the leadership accountable for discrepancies involving public funds. 'These recurring findings highlight institutional weaknesses that demand more than administrative corrections; they require structural reform,' he said in a statement. Raymon said the revelations further erode the confidence of Malaysians in public institutions. The A-G's report flagged serious issues on how more than RM460 million of government funds was spent on land deals, university tenders, and defence contracts between 2020 and 2024, naming Felcra Bhd, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and the army. He urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the police to initiate investigations into these issues to look into the possibility of fraud, abuse of power or negligence. He also called on the relevant government ministries, departments and agencies to disclose the remedial actions they would take within 30 days to show responsibility and ensure public confidence. The government must make it mandatory for independent third-party experts to be roped in to monitor high-risk procurements under 'integrity pacts', involving civil society and professionals from the private sector, he said. Raymon also urged Putrajaya to table a comprehensive public procurement law that outlines transparency standards, penalties for non-compliance and clear procurement dispute mechanisms. 'The A-G's report must not be an annual ritual of regret. 'It must serve as a catalyst for reform, one that rebuilds institutional integrity, ensures justice for wrongdoing and protects the interests of the rakyat,' he said.

Eutelsat signs strategic partnership with UK government for its LEO network access
