Savages review – indigenous teen and baby orangutan take on developers in Borneo
Kéria (voiced by Babette De Coster) is a teenage girl living on the edge of this rich and beautiful wilderness, with her widower dad (Benoît Poelvoorde), who is glumly employed by one of the palm-oil plantations that is eroding it. Kéria is partly of indigenous Penan heritage, and is irritated when her Penan cousin Selaï (Martin Verset) comes to stay after his home village is wiped out. Together they get lost in the forest with a baby orangutan called Oshi which Kéria and her dad rescued when the evil planters shot its mother. Their adventures take them to the truth about Kéria's dad and her late mother, to her Penan heritage and to a fateful confrontation with the plantation officials, who are swaggering, gun-toting bullies.
Kéria and the tribespeople courageously face down these people with their blow-pipes containing unpoisoned darts (the cringing company cowards, fearing for their lives, soon lose their nerve). However, the campaign website about the Borneo rainforest which accompanies this film notably does not actually advocate direct action of this sort.
Savages is in UK and Irish cinemas from 1 August

Hank Hill returns to a changed world in new 'King of the Hill' episodes
Hank Hill is back and he's the same ol' Hank Hill, but a lot of things around him have changed. The lovable animated hero of 'King of the Hill' has returned from a 15-year lull and he isn't sure what boba tea is, how ridesharing works and is confused by all-gender bathrooms. 'What kind of food is poke?' he asks his wife, Peggy. Hank and Peggy have returned to their hometown of Arlon, Texas — and our TV sets — but a lot has happened over the years and they're stepping into a world they doesn't always recognize. 'Hank, have things changed here more than we thought?' Peggy asks, worried, in the first new episode. 'Did we make a mistake coming back?' Hulu is definitely hoping not, reuniting many of the same writers and voice cast who turned the propane-loving, beer-sipping Hill into one of TV's few blue-collar icons. The first 10 episodes hit Hulu on Monday. A new 'King of the Hill' leader Saladin K. Patterson, the executive producer and showrunner for the new season 14, hopes the original fans will return to see how Hill copes in the modern day. 'That's always key because you want that core fan base to validate what you've done because they're like the gatekeepers in a way,' he says. 'So when they sign off and say, 'OK, they didn't mess it up, it's still the same special show,' I think other people who may be unfamiliar with it, or even on the fence, feel like, 'OK, well, now we want to like it.'' Viewers will learn that Hank and Peggy have been in Saudi Arabia all this time, where he served as 'assistant manager in charge of Arabian propane and Arabian propane accessories.' Their son Bobby, now 21, is the chef of a 'down home, German-Asian fusion' restaurant. (Sample dish: Grilled mackerel with a side of mustard pretzel.) Hank and Peggy have retired and he happily rejoins his line of friends drinking cans of beer in an alley. Boomhauer gives him a hug and Dale has grown even more paranoid, becoming 'an election-denier-denier.' Bill has let himself go, staying indoors and living off Amazon deliveries. 'I finished Netflix, Hank. Did you know that when you get to the end of Netflix, you get something called 'a wellness check?'' Viewers in the second episode hear Tom Petty's 'Runnin' Down a Dream,' a nice nod to the late rocker's embrace of the show when it first appeared. 'The writers have found that balance between the vintage 'King of the Hill' that we adore and the new — and letting them coexist,' says Pamela Adlon, who voices Bobby. Same gentle tone Creators Mike Judge, the mastermind behind 'Beavis and Butt-Head,' and Greg Daniels, who would go on to co-create 'The Office,' helped Patterson navigate this world, which they sheparded during its first 13 seasons, airing from 1997 to 2009. The show's tone maintains its gentle mocking of modern life, from hipsters and their craft ales to bike lanes. Hill at one point shakes his head over modern outdoor grills having sensors and app connections: 'I shouldn't have to call technical support to make a burger.' Patterson says the humor is grounded in real life. 'I do have a barbecue grill that is Wi-Fi- and Bluetooth-enabled. I have three devices to run it, but I'm calling tech support because I have guests coming over and the meat needs to be done,' he says. 'And I do think over the pandemic, my wife finished Netflix.' While there are changes, some things are immutable. 'Hank's still going to drink beer. Dale's still going to be a conspiracy theorist. Bill's still going to be a lovable sad sack,' says Patterson. 'Those core character things had to be the same. I had a pastor who told me one time, 'Grown folks don't change.'' Viewers will see in upcoming episodes if Hank — a happy propane seller and garage tinkerer — can really ever retire and watch as Hank's friends navigate new chapters. They'll also explore the relationship between an adult Bobby and his parents. 'He's of age now and it's really kind of cool because you see the similarities and all the attributes that he took from his parents that he wasn't even aware of when he was a boy — or didn't want to have anything to do with — and now he's using them to keep his business going and move himself forward,' says Adlon. A politics-free zone While debates have raged over where Hank Hill sits on the political spectrum, his creators argue he represents a sensible, common-sense middle. He follows the rules and does the best he can without hurting anyone. 'It's so not a Republican or a Democratic show or an independent show. It's all of that,' says Adlon. 'There's space in the world for everybody. It's hard for us all to find a safe space in a common area anymore and that's what this show really is.' And even though the new 'King of the Hill' episodes arrive during President Donald Trump's second term, don't expect any politics from Hank Hill. 'We want to tell relatable stories where people can see themselves in our characters or their family members in our characters,' says Patterson. 'There are enough cultural things and relationship things that have shifted to where he can comment on that without us wading into tariffs and immigration policy and stuff like that.'

Hailey Bieber shares a rare photo of son Jack as she gives an insight into summer after admitting she 'struggled to accept' the surprise pregnancy
Hailey Bieber shared a rare photo with her son as she gave an insight into her summer on Sunday after admitting she 'struggled to accept' the surprise pregnancy. The model, 28, who shares Jack Blues with her husband Justin, welcomed the tot last August and recently revealed that he was 'unexpected.' Posing for a selfie, Hailey looked stunning in a plunging red top and minimal makeup while enjoying the sun. Another photo showed her relaxing with a face mask on during her skincare routine, while others gave an insight into her recent work. Hailey captioned her Instagram update: 'Summer things part I.' Hailey recently revealed what her husband Justin is really like as a father and admitted she 'struggled to accept' her surprise pregnancy. The Rhode founder and the pop star, 31, welcomed their first child together, a baby boy called Jack, in August 2024. But the couple have been plagued by rumours of marriage trouble in recent months, with the singer sparking concerns among fans with his behaviour. While Hailey had been seen in public without her wedding ring last month, the couple appeared to be on affectionate terms when they were seen earlier this month in Switzerland. And speaking to Vogue Italia as their August 2025 cover girl, Hailey appeared to quash the rumours of a rift as she gushed over Justin being an 'extraordinary' father, 'a natural', and 'seeing her as a goddess, a superhero'. Hailey also opened up about her pregnancy with Jack, revealing it was unexpected. 'The pregnancy was hard for me to accept, it was a surprise and you have to deal with so many emotions,' she told the outlet. 'You realise that your life will never be the same again, yes, it changes in a positive way, but it will never be the same again. It was a huge challenge for me, mentally,' she added. Despite this, Hailey said that everything ends up coming together eventually and it acted as a huge teaching lesson for her as a person - and her marriage. 'Suddenly, your partner sees you as a goddess, a superhero... Or at least, that's how it was for me,' she said. Justin's bad behaviour has manifested in recent months in the form of arguing with Hailey online, acting erratically and clashing with paparazzi, a source told Page Six. The material on the latest album, which Justin released July 11, included a trio of comedy skits with comic Druski. One of the bits dubbed 'Therapy session,' in which Druski portrays a counsellor, Justin touches on the complications of living life in the limelight. 'That's been a tough thing for me recently - feeling like I have had to go through a lot of my struggles as a human, as all of us do, really publicly. 'And so people are always asking if I'm OK - and that starts to really weigh on me.' Justin said that the attention makes him feel like he's 'the one with the issues and everyone else is perfect.' The singer sold rights to his catalogue for $200million in 2023, the Los Angeles Times reported recently. His most recent studio album prior to Swag was Justice in 2021. The album garnered critical acclaim and spawned successful commercial tracks such as Peaches, a Billboard Hot 200 chart-topper; and the top 10 hits Holy, Anyone and Ghost. In February 2023, Justin officially cancelled the remainder of his Justice World Tour after the singer said he was diagnosed with the condition Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which can lead to facial paralysis.

Inside Justin Trudeau's divorce makeover
He's swapped tailored suits for tight tees, Parliament Hill for Swiss peaks - and a buttoned-up marriage for adrenaline-fueled bonding trips with his sons and a cozy dinner with Katy Perry . Nearly a year after splitting from wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau , the former Canadian Prime Minister has debuted a full-blown divorce glow-up: trading suits for sleeveless tees, diplomatic meetings for mountaineering, and family portraits for alpine selfies. In his latest Instagram post that Trudeau, 53, shared a day after he was seen out with the popstar, the loving dad posed atop a snowy slope in Zermatt, Switzerland with 17-year-old son Xavier, ice axes in hand and mountaineering rope tied between them. 'More melted cheese than anyone should safely eat,' he joked, capturing the bro-y, dad-on-the-loose energy that's defined his recent feed. And before that he was seen on a sun-drenched Canadian road trip with his youngest son Hadrien, 9, that included rock climbing, hiking, and even a kiss from a sea lion. One July snap showed the trio at a climbing gym, Trudeau in a black tank top, looking more Coachella than campaign trail. Fans have been spamming his latest Instagram post with cheeky Katy Perry GIFs - one of her seductively holding a watermelon slice, another of her in a candy-colored wig licking an ice cream cone. Trudeau and Perry were spotted having dinner in Montreal on Monday, leaning in close at Le Violon restaurant before heading to Taverne Atlantic for terrace drinks. Perry, 40, is currently on tour in Canada after her recent split from fiancé Orlando Bloom - and her sighting with Trudeau has sent social media into overdrive with people speculating they are dating. 'Both reminiscing their peaks in 2015,' one user joked. 'Did not have that one on my celebrity hookup bingo card,' wrote another. It's been a rocky stretch for the pop star: a flop album (143), backlash over her cringy Blue Origin space flight, and a very public breakup from Bloom, who was last seen solo at Jeff Bezos' wedding in Venice. Perry, who was in Australia at the time of the wedding, was later seen breaking down in tears on stage. Meanwhile, Trudeau has been navigating his own exit from power. After eight years as Prime Minister, he stepped down in January amid plummeting popularity, a crumbling Liberal party, and a trade crisis with Trump 2.0. His replacement, Mike Carney, was sworn in this March. Representatives for both Trudeau and Perry have declined to comment on the dating rumors . A source has told the Daily Mail that those close to the singer do not believe their rendezvous was anything serious. They explained that Perry 'usually wears her heart on her sleeve' so if a new romance was brewing, her pals would have heard about it. 'As of right now, Katy and Justin are treating their get together as just that, a get together,' our insider said. 'She hasn't told anyone it was anything more, and she usually wears her heart on her sleeve, so if something were happening, she'd let her close friends know. But right now it is nothing more than friendship.' A second insider reiterated that Perry and Trudeau's meetup was 'just a hangout' and not something romantic... yet. 'They met at an event and they have had some good conversations,' they said. 'They text each other, it seems to be very friendly and nothing more at the moment. However this hasn't stopped social media going into meltdown over the duo's meeting. One person posted: 'That's the most random couple I can imagine getting together in 2025.' Another said: 'Imagine the stimulating conversation these two geniuses must be having.' While a third added: 'You could have given me a million guesses as to who his new girlfriend was and it would never have been Katy Perry lol.' Another quipped about Perry's panned Blue Origin mission: 'Good for her. After all she's been through, the trials and tribulations of being an astronaut while trying to be a single mom, she deserves to be happy.' And another concluded: 'They are both insufferable, might just work out for them.'
