Man racing to be by fiancee's side after she was killed in car wreck dies in a similar tragic crash
The horrific incident occurred along LA-67 in the early hours of May 16. The couple is survived by their four-year-old son, Gabriel. They had recently bought a home together and were due to be married in February 2026.
Alexus Lee, 25, was killed while driving her 2013 Toyota Highlander north when 'for reasons still under investigation,' her car veered off the roadway, striking an obstruction and flipping over. 'Lee was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased on the scene,' the Louisiana State Patrol said.
Investigators into the crash contacted her partner, John Collins, 35, to tell him about the crash.
Tragically, as Collins raced to the scene at a high rate of speed in a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, he 'failed to negotiate a right-hand curve,' causing him to come off the road and strike a tree, reports WAFB.
'Lee was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased on the scene,' authorities said. Both Lee and Collins were pronounced dead at their respective scenes.
The cause of both crashes is under investigation, with toxicology reports pending.
Collins' father, Arthur, told WAFB that he is struggling to cope with the tragedy.
'I love them and I'm gonna miss both of them and I'm gonna find the strength to go ahead,' he said.
His mother, Sandra, also spoke out.
'He loved Alexus as well as everybody else who knew her. To know her was to love her,' she added.
The grieving parents said that they have tried to explain to their grandson what has unfolded.
'He understands what happened, and he's just having a little problem comprehending that we can't talk to them. We can't see them, but he understands that they are asleep and are with God,' Sandra said.
Heartfelt tributes have been pouring in for the young couple online.
Lee's former high school, East Feliciana Public Schools, wrote: 'It is with great sadness we inform you that Ms. Alexus Lee, 2017 graduate of East Feliciana High School and teacher at East Feliciana STEAM Academy, passed away.
'Please join us in wrapping Ms. Lee's family in prayer and love during this difficult time,' they said.
Lee's friend Meche Danielle wrote on her Facebook page: 'So many nights we spent stressing over Math 117 at UL !! Countless meals and conversations we shared. My heart truly goes out to your son, such a loving and caring soul gone too soon !! Get your rest babygirl Alexus Lee.'
Todd Collins, John's brother, and Lee's brother-in-law, said Lee 'always had my back'.
'My dear sister in law, you were the best and I'm surely going to miss you. They just don't make them like you! Not only did you love my brother and nephew, you always made sure Uncle Todd was straight, whether it was a meal or a ride to the doctor, you had my back.'
Lee's funeral was held on Wednesday in Clinton, Louisiana.

A university professor warned Bryan Kohberger would sexually abuse students just months before he murdered four undergraduates, according to a police report. Others in the department thought he could become a rapist and speculated that he was an 'incel', she told the officer. Kohberger was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences last month after he admitted murdering Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle and Madison Mogen in a rental home near the University of Idaho campus. All four victims were likely to have initially been asleep when they were attacked, according to a post-mortem. They were each stabbed several times, and some had defensive wounds where they tried to fight off Kohberger. A fellow student also claimed that three weeks after the killings and before Kohberger was arrested, he praised the murderer and said they 'must have been pretty good'. He also reportedly speculated that the deaths might have been a 'one and done type thing'. She told police that Kohberger was disparaging towards women, enjoyed conflict, and liked to talk about his field of study: sexual burglary. One instructor who worked with Kohberger said she began receiving complaints about him from students and staff on the same programme in August 2022. In total, the university received nine complaints from faculty members and others about his 'rude and belittling behaviour toward women', according to a report from Idaho police. One of his fellow students, who called a police tip line and reported seeing Kohberger with bloody knuckles shortly before the murders, said he also started looking dishevelled after the killings and stopped bringing his phone to classes.

Internet star, 33, shot dead in front of her child after driving into road rage argument between other drivers
An Arizona influencer was shot and killed after driving into the crossfire of a road rage incident. Yarely Ashley Hermosillo, 27, was struck by a stray bullet on Friday after two other drivers started fighting at a red light. Glendale police said Jesus Preciado Dousten, 33, was waiting in the center lane while the driver he argued with was stopped in the right lane. Hermosillo's vehicle came to a stop in the left lane and was not involved in the fight. Her boyfriend was driving the car, while she sat in the passenger seat, and her mother and four-year-old son were in the back. As the other vehicles continued to fight, Dousten allegedly pulled out a handgun, pointed it at his own driver's side window and fired a single shot at random. The bullet went through the passenger window of the car on his left and struck Hermosillo in the head. Hermosillo's boyfriend rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. 'My question still is, why would you just randomly shoot the other way? He obviously didn't know the other car was there,' Glendale Police Sgt Brian Hoskins told AZ Family. 'That's the thing, as gun owners, you have to know where you're shooting, what you're pointing at. You know, those are the responsibilities of being a responsible gun owner. You can't just fire rounds randomly throughout. Specifically, a high, highly populated city.' Police used surveillance footage to identify Dousten as the driver and tracked him down. 'Tracking from you know one location to another, switching cameras and continuing to follow the individual,' Hoskins said. Dousten was arrested, and police executed a search warrant at a home he had visited after the shooting and recovered two handguns. He has been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, misconduct involving weapons and endangerment, and is being held on $1 million bond. Hermosillo's family has started a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses for the influencer. She amassed over 300,000 followers across Facebook, Instagram and TikTok for her stay-at-home mom and cooking content. 'Yarely was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a beautiful soul whose light touched everyone who knew her,' her family said. 'She leaves behind her husband and their 4-year-old son, who now face an unimaginable loss. 'Yarely's greatest joy in life was being a mother, and she poured her heart into caring for her little boy. 'She was an innocent victim caught in the middle of a road rage incident between others, leaving her family and friends devastated.'
