Air Force Chief confirms at least 5 Pakistani jets downed during Op Sindoor

Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, chief of the Indian Air Force, on Saturday revealed that the Indian military successfully destroyed at least five Pakistani fighter jets and at least one large aircraft during Operation Sindoor.
Speaking at an event at the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (Hal) Management Academy, he described the downing of the large aircraft at a distance of around 300 kilometres as the largest recorded surface-to-air kill to date.
Damage to Pakistan's defence infrastructure
The Air Chief detailed further strikes against Pakistan's defence capabilities, including the destruction of two command and control centres at Murid and Chaklala, and the targeting of six radar installations of various sizes. Additionally, two Surface-to-Air Guided Weapon (SAGW) systems located in Lahore and Okara were also hit.
Three key hangars were also hit, he said: the Sukkur UAV hangar, the Bholari hangar, and the Jacobabad F-16 hangar. Intelligence suggests at least one AEW&C (Airborne Early Warning and Control) aircraft and several F-16s undergoing maintenance were present in the latter facility, Singh added.

Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers caught in wrong-number chaos as Rajat Patidar calls police on Chattisgarh boys

Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar had an unusual incident with two cricket fans from Chhattisgarh as he tried to reclaim his mobile number. The Indian batter's previous mobile number had been inactive for over 90 days, which led his telecom operator to deactivate it and subsequently reassign it, according to an NDTV report. The number was reportedly assigned to a boy from Chhattisgarh named Manish, a resident of the state's Gariaband district. Manish activated the Reliance Jio SIM card in late June, and soon after activation, he and his friend Khemraj noticed the RCB skipper's photograph appearing as the WhatsApp display picture— the first sign that the number had previously belonged to a famous personality. Soon afterwards, the boys began receiving phone calls from prominent personalities like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, who were trying to reach Patidar. Patidar himself also contacted the number, explained the situation to Manish and Khemraj, and stressed how important the number was for him, as coaches, teammates, and personal contacts used it to reach him. However, the boys did not believe it was actually Patidar on the other line and humorously replied, 'And we're MS Dhoni.' The RCB captain then warned them, 'Okay, I'll send the cops.' Just ten minutes later, local police arrived at Manish's residence to mediate the situation. After realizing it was indeed Patidar on the other end, Manish cooperated with the authorities and returned the SIM card. Speaking about the incident to NDTV, Khemraj said, 'I got to speak to Kohli because of a wrong number. My life's goal is complete.' Notably, Patidar had shot to fame earlier this year after RCB appointed him as skipper ahead of the season. The MP-based cricketer not only led his side into the playoffs but also secured their first-ever IPL trophy under his leadership.

Sarma stated on X (formerly Twitter), 'Stern action against illegal infiltration continues! Ignored villagers' warning: UP man heading home for Rakhi swept away on flooded road; strong current knocks him off balance

BIJNOR: A 35-year-old man, who had returned home from Haryana to celebrate Rakshabandhan with his family, died after being swept away by strong currents on a waterlogged road in Bijnor district, said police on Saturday. Neetu Singh went to nearby Sahaspur town on his scooter on Friday to withdraw money from a bank. While returning to Kiwar village, he reached a stretch near Jairampur village, which had been flooded for the past three days due to rainfall. Despite villagers warning him not to proceed on the submerged road, Singh chose to continue. As soon as he entered the waterlogged road, a strong current caused him to lose balance and fall, and swept him away. Locals found his body after two hours. Police sent the body to the district hospital for autopsy. Bijnor SP Abhishek Jha said, "Neetu worked as a factory supervisor in Haryana and had returned to Kaiwar to celebrate the festival with his two sisters. The body has been handed over to his family after autopsy on Saturday, and legal proceedings are on." Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
