CWG Live updates: Occasional showers and storms to dodge this weekend
Welcome to cwg.live, updated around-the-clock by Capital Weather Gang meteorologists.
Happening now: Showers this morning with a storm chance later in the day. There should be some decent dry time as well with highs near 80 to the low 80s.
What's next? More frequent showers and storms are a good bet Sunday. Rain chances could linger early in the workweek, then turning hotter later in the week.
Today's daily digit — 7/10: Higher rain chances than we'd hope for on a busy weekend, but it shouldn't last all day. | 🤚 Your call?
The digit is a somewhat subjective rating of the day's weather, on a 0-to-10 scale.
Forecast in detail
Today (Saturday): Showers are scattered to numerous at times during the morning and perhaps into early afternoon. The initial activity should tend to shift south and east of the area after noon or 1 p.m., but a few scattered showers and storms could dot the region midafternoon into evening. Under partial afternoon sun, we're on the humid side with highs near 80 to the low 80s. Confidence: Medium-High
Tonight: Any evening showers or storms should be isolated and will wane with the loss of daylight. Lows fall into the mid-60s or so. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow (Sunday): Showers and storms are more numerous than today, with skies tending mostly cloudy. Given more clouds and some rain around, highs may only make the mid- 70s to near 80. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow night: Showers and storms could persist into the evening, probably diminishing overnight. Lows mostly in the low and mid-60s. Confidence: Medium
A look ahead
Warmth surges back into the area Monday. Highs mainly in a near-80 to mid-80s zone. Partly cloudy, with just a passing chance of a shower. Confidence: Medium
Similar Tuesday. Highs around 80 and into the low 80s, with maybe a better chance of some showers and storms. Confidence: Medium
Turning up the heat again mid- to late week. We might make another try at 90 by Thursday.

Sudden downpours and rumbles of thunder across parts of England
Heavy rain and showers have produced rumbles of thunder across parts of England on Saturday. It came as a particularly intense band of showers charged east through the south and west, and forecasters said people should expect sudden downpours, thunder and dramatic skies. A Met Office yellow weather warning for thunderstorms was in place for most the day. The highest rainfall total was in Worlds End, Hampshire, where 31.9mm was recorded in the 12 hours to 8.30pm. The deluge saw rainfall totals of around 27-28mm across the southern stretch of the UK. Met Office data shows England recorded 32.8mm of rain last month – almost half the usual monthly average. The weather warning was initially for parts of central and southern England and Wales to 6pm, and was later altered to cover east, south-east and south-west England to 9pm. Sunday starts dry and bright for many, with some early sunshine ☀️ A little cloudier in the far west with scattered showers 🌦️ Remaining breezy, especially in and around any showers 🌬️ — Met Office (@metoffice) June 7, 2025 As the weather warning expired, Met Office meteorologist Zoe Hutin said: 'The band that had the most active showers on it, so had the most sort of lightning strikes within it, is now just off of the east coast of the country. 'The area of deepest instability has moved away. There are still a few reports of lightning across central England, but I think the worst of it is moving out of the way. 'We've lost the daytime heating, and the temperatures today were also adding to that instability and the development of those thunderstorms.' Top temperature was 19.4C in Manston, Kent, which was one of the areas hit by the downfalls along with Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk, which endured the heaviest showers and thunderstorms and recorded temperatures of around 18.7C. Conditions are now expected to settle down, but while 'there could still be some heavy down bursts at times and heavy showers at times – I think the worst is behind us,' Ms Hutin said. Conditions are expected to improve on Sunday, with a drier day forecast for many, though showers may linger in parts of the North and East. Clear and sunny spells are expected for many areas but there could be some more persistent showers later in the West and North West.

CBS News Miami partners with South Florida nonprofits for hurricane supply giveaway
It's better to be prepared before a storm hits rather than having to go stock up on supplies during one. That's why CBS News Miami helped participate in a hurricane supply drive where anyone who drove up got some water and non-perishable food for hurricane season. Saturday's event showed us how important a service like this is for families across South Florida. Eric Bryant said his family usually spends $300 to $400 on hurricane preparedness. "That ain't even enough," he said. "We don't even have money for hotels," Bryant said. He told CBS News Miami his family is on a fixed income, so getting hurricane supplies for free here was a lifeline, so he came up from Homestead to Westchester. "This is good," Bryant said. "You see how far we came to get this." That's why CBS News Miami partnered with Neighbors 4 Neighbors, Farm Share, and Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) to distribute hurricane supplies. CBS News Miami's team was there as people drove up, put their supplies in their trunks, and left. "If a hurricane does hit. You already have the supplies you're going to need to take on this kind of event," said CBS News Miami Anchor Erika Gonzalez. People started showing up as early as 6 a.m. Saturday — and the event didn't even start until 9 a.m. "That just shows you that no one's gonna do that unless they're in need," said Katy Meagher, the CEO of Neighbors 4 Neighbors. This was one of nine sites that were handing out hurricane supplies. And at this site alone, there were enough supplies to help 1,000 people. The non-profits behind the event said they got the supplies through donations and support from local food banks. "We're gonna be helping families with food for a couple days," said Erika Ruiz of GEM. "It's more important now than ever to make sure that the community is getting food before the storm gets here," added Nick Rodriguez of the Farmshare Food Bank. Organizers told CBS News Miami that if someone needs supplies and couldn't make it this weekend, their family can work with the Farmshare Food Bank to have supplies delivered to them.
