Delhi HC stays interim injunction against PS-2 song ‘Veera Raja Veera' use by AR Rahman
The Delhi High Court Tuesday stayed an interim injunction against music director A R Rahman and two production companies, under which Rahman and Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions were directed to credit celebrated Dhrupad exponents, the late Ustad Nasir Faiyazuddin and Ustad Nasir Zahiruddin Dagar, in a song in Ponniyin Selvan-2 (PS-2).
An appeal was filed by Rahman against a single judge's order on April 25, and was taken up by the division bench of Justices C Hari Shankar and Ajay Digpaul.
The single judge order had held that Rahman's popular composition Veera Raja Veera from the film PS-2 was musically 'identical' to Shiva Stuti, a devotional piece composed and performed by Junior Dagar Brothers.
The court's ruling had come in a suit filed by Junior Dagar Brothers' heir, Padma Shri awardee Dhrupad vocalist Ustad Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar, alleging Rahman and others of copyright infringement.
On Tuesday, while staying the interim injunction order, the High Court, however, directed Rahman and the producers to deposit Rs 2 crore as was directed by the single judge.
The division bench's stay on the interim injunction implies that Rahman does not have to pay damages of Rs 2 lakh as was directed on April 25, as of now, and he also does not have to give credits to Junior Dagar brothers for every play-out of the song, as was also directed.
The division bench recorded in its order, 'As the subject matter of the copyright in which the injunction has been granted has been in public domain since 2023, without prejudice to the rights and contentions of both sides and without intending the order to be any expression on cases of the parties before us, we stay the operation of the injunction granted by Ld. Single Judge till the next date of hearing,' the Court ordered.

Today, we will talk about a film that has scored the 4th spot in the list of highest-grossing films. Made on a budget of Rs 550 crore, this film minted more than Rs 1,200 crore. With a stellar cast and power-packed performances, this movie created history after its release. If you are wondering which movie we are talking about, then it is RRR. Directed by S. S. 'Thug Life' box office collection day 1 early estimate: Kamal Haasan starrer struggles to beat 'Indian 2's opening day collection
's much-anticipated action drama 'Thug Life', directed by , hit the big screens today (June 5), and the film received lukewarm responses from both fans and critics despite considerable buzz. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Early estimates suggest that the film managed to earn Rs 17 crore at the domestic box office by 10 pm, which is nowhere near Kamal's recent film 'Indian 2's first-day box office collection. Box office collection of Indian 2 and Thug Life According to Sacnilk, 'Indian 2' had recorded Rs 25.6 crore on its opening day, despite being labelled a box office failure. It appears that 'Thug Life' may fall short of the mark and fail to surpass 'Indian 2's opening day collection. Official figures are still awaited from the makers, with only a few hours remaining. Occupancy rate Occupancy rates for the Tamil version of Thug Life showed a gradual decline throughout the day. Overall occupancy stood at 48.72% on Thursday. Morning shows saw a 50.66% turnout, which dipped slightly to 50.35% in the afternoon. Evening shows witnessed a more noticeable drop to 45.15%. Among all regions, Pondicherry registered the highest occupancy at 69.33%. Kamal Haasan Faces Ban in Karnataka Over Kannada Language Row, Minister Demands Apology | Thug Life Unfortunately, the film is not expected to rank among the top Tamil openers of 2025. So far this year, Ajith Kumar's 'Good Bad Ugly' holds the top spot with Rs 28.15 crore, followed by Vidaamuyarchi at Rs 25.5 crore. However, 'Thug Life' may still outperform Suriya's Retro, which had a Rs 17.25 crore opening day collection. Thug Life controversy The film has reportedly faced a ban in Karnataka, triggered by comments made by Kamal Haasan during a promotional appearance. 'Your language (Kannada) was born out of Tamil,' he had said. The statement drew sharp criticism from pro-Kannada groups and resulted in widespread backlash. Haasan stood firm and refused to apologise, which only intensified the dispute and led to the film being pulled from screens in the region. 'Thug Life' also stars , TR Silambarasan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, and Mahesh Manjrekar in key roles.

Top 5 Bollywood Openers of 2025 So Far: Chhaava tops; Where will Housefull 5 land?
Housefull 5 led by Akshay Kumar is all set for a grand theatrical release. The film's advance bookings are almost about to end as we are less than an hour away from the film's release. The bookings of Housefull 5 point towards an opening in the vicinity of Rs 20 crore net and that would make the comic-caper the year's 3rd biggest Bollywood opener, only behind Chhaava and Sikandar. Chhaava opened to Rs 28.50 crore net and went on to do all time blockbuster level business across India. Sikandar, the Salman Khan star-vehicle opened with roughly Rs 25 crore net. The film was panned by fans and critics and it ended up sealing a sorry fate. Housefull 5 should have targeted an opening above that of Sikandar but that shall not happen owing to slower than expected advance bookings. Had the bookings been on par with the previous Housefull film that released in pre-Diwali, it would still have opened to a number above Rs 25 crore and closer to Rs 30 crore. Moving on, Raid 2 currently is the year's 3rd biggest opener with day 1 collections of around Rs 19 crore net. The movie emerged a bonafied hit at the box office despite competition from Retro, Hit 3 and Tourist Family. Sky Force and Jaat have currently occupied the 4th and 5th place in the list of top Bollywood openers of 2025 but that shall change tomorrow. Here Are The Top 5 Biggest Bollywood Openers Of 2025 So Far 1. Chhaava - Rs 29.50cr 2. Sikandar - Rs 25cr 3. Raid 2 - Rs 19cr 4. Sky Force - Rs 13.75cr 5. Jaat - Rs 9cr All eyes are on the film's word of mouth. If the word of mouth among the target audience is good, it will play well in theatres for the next few weeks and cross the Rs 200 crore net mark atleast. If the word of mouth is unfavourable, it will result in lesser than expected growth over the Eid weekend and then the numbers will come tumbling down in the weekdays. The family audience continues to remain vital for the success of Housefull 5. The industry is observing and monitoring the reception of Housefull 5 very closely. It will give the producers the courage to produce more ensemble comedies of the slapstick nature. Housefull 5 plays in theatres in just a few hours. Have you booked your tickets for the movie yet?
