More than half of those who took the exam were women.
The answer key is expected to be released within the next two days, and results are likely by next week.
The exam generated considerable excitement among aspirants, but also some criticism after the university decided to close the entire campus for the duration of the test, citing safety and logistical reasons.
Under the current format, candidates were not allowed to take the question papers home, as there is no fixed question bank; answers had to be written directly on the paper provided. Except for medical subjects, papers were also made available in Gujarati.
In certain disciplines — including journalism, Prakrit, and Urdu — no examination was conducted due to the absence of available guides for PhD supervision.

I'm in space...: Union Minister quips as Opposition blocks his Lok Sabha speech

In an unusual yet strategic move, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh initiated his speech on the special discussion on space from one of the back benches in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The shift was aimed at avoiding disruptions from protesting Opposition members who had crowded the front rows with placards and with a mix of wit and seriousness, Singh quipped, 'Main iss samay Antriksh mein khada hoon, aap mujh tak nahin pahunch sakte' (I am right now standing in space, you can't reach me). The remark drew laughter in the House as Opposition MPs attempted to block his view on the television screen by raising their banners higher and higher, but failed, since Singh had quietly chosen a vantage seat at the humour with an earnest appeal, the Union Minister on Monday urged Opposition MPs to set aside their protest and join the debate. 'Though you are too angry to participate in the discussion initiated by me, I still bow my head and plead: even if you are angry with the government, come forward and participate in this important discussion on Space so that the message going out to the nation is correct,' he said. Citing noted Urdu poet Ahmed Faraz, the Minister added a poetic touch to his plea: 'Kis kis ko sunaye ge judai ka sabab hum, Tu mujhse khafa hai to zamane ke liye aa,' which he paraphrased for the occasion as, 'Kis Kis ko sunaye ge iss shor-o-gul ka sabab hum; Tu mujhse khafa hai to, Subhanshu ke liye aa' (Whom shall I tell the reason for this separation? If you are upset with me, come for the sake of the world; adapted for the occasion as, Whom shall I tell the reason for all this noise and commotion? If you are upset with me, come for Subhanshu's sake). The debate, which was intended to highlight India's advancements in space science and technology, particularly contributions of young scientists like Shubhanshu Shukla, was marked by both spirited exchanges and moments of levity. Singh's tactful handling of the situation ensured that the core message of the discussion "India's growing stature in space exploration" was not entirely overshadowed by Opposition protests.- Ends
