Gensol Engineering share price hits 5% upper circuit despite IREDA's insolvency move
Even as the state-run Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) filed an insolvency application against Gensol Engineering, optimism in the stock price followed the company's announcement that the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) had granted it two weeks to respond to SEBI's interim order.
On April 15, the market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), in an interim order, barred Gensol's promoters—Anmol Singh Jaggi and Puneet Singh Jaggi—from trading in the securities market and from holding any key managerial position in Gensol or any other listed company. SEBI also ordered a forensic audit.
The investigation found that the promoters of the cleantech firm had siphoned off loans from state-run lenders Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and IREDA for unrelated and personal expenses.
According to SEBI, between FY22 and FY24, IREDA and PFC lent Gensol ₹ 311.5 crore and ₹ 352.4 crore, respectively, to purchase electric cars for its EV-based ride-hailing business, BluSmart.
Gensol added another ₹ 166 crore in equity capital, bringing the total to ₹ 829.9 crore. However, the company reportedly bought only 4,704 cars for ₹ 567.7 crore—leaving ₹ 262.1 crore unaccounted for.
The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) on Wednesday filed an insolvency application against the embattled Gensol Engineering for a default of ₹ 510 crore, according to an exchange filing by the clean energy-focused lender.
This development comes nearly three weeks after IREDA filed a complaint with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police against Gensol Engineering for allegedly submitting falsified documents and diluting promoters' shares without the lender's approval.
"In furtherance to our earlier letter dated April 25, 2025, with respect to M/s Gensol Engineering Limited, this is to inform you that the Company has filed an application today, i.e., May 14, 2025, under Section 7 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, against M/s Gensol Engineering Ltd., for an amount of default of ₹ 510,00,52,672 (Rupees Five Hundred Ten Crore Fifty-Two Thousand Six Hundred Seventy-Two Only)," the exchange filing stated.
While informing the exchanges of its complaint with the EOW on April 25, IREDA had said that Gensol's account is currently under stress but has not yet been classified as a non-performing asset (NPA). It also mentioned that it has initiated an internal review in line with RBI guidelines and the company's due diligence protocols.

Railways plans to roll out Gati Shakti Freight trains for faster cargo movement
Indian Railways Freight Services: Indian Railways (IR) plays a crucial role in transporting bulk commodities which are essential for industry and energy sectors, food grains for national distribution, fertilizers for agriculture, and petroleum products. For long distances, rail transport has been more economical than road transport. It not only reduces overall logistics cost but also enables seamless supply chains across the country. Now, in a bid to boost the logistics sector, the Ministry of Railways is planning to introduce a Gati Shakti Freight train. This new semi-high-speed train will be manufactured at Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF). 'ICF is planning to introduce Gati Shakti Freight EMU, a semi-high-speed train for e-commerce and FMCG logistics, equipped with advanced container handling systems and crew amenities,' said U Subba Rao, General Manager of ICF, on Friday while addressing the gathering on the occasion of India's 79th Independence Day. The national transporter carries over 1.6 billon tonnes of freight traffic every year. Transporting freight by rail helps cut carbon emissions, lowers fuel costs and eases highway congestion. The freight carried by railways during 2020-21 was 1,233 million tonnes which increased to 1,591 million tonnes during 2023-24 i.e. a growth of 29 per cent. The railways has taken up construction of two Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC) – Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) from Ludhiana to Sonnagar (1337 Km) and the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal (JNPT) to Dadri (1506 Km). Out of total 2,843 Km, 2741 Route km (96.4%) have been commissioned and operational, which – carried 1,30,116 freight trains during FY 2024-25. In a written statement in Lok Sabha on July 23, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said: 'Indian Railways is working on increasing the capacity of its network through Corridors approach. Corridors like HDN (High Traffic Density), Energy, Minerals and Cement are being implemented on priority.'

Mumbai businessman loses Rs 5.24 cr in investment scam; four held
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Mumbai, Aug 16 (PTI) Four cyber fraudsters have been arrested for allegedly duping a businessman from Mumbai of Rs 5.24 crore by posing as executives of a Dubai-based investment company, police said on Saturday. The fraud came to light after the accused themselves invited the victim to Dubai, where he found that the company does not exist, an official said. A probe has revealed that the accused, who were recently apprehended from different parts of the country, had used the same modus operandi to cheat people of more than Rs 65 crore in Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune and Kerala, an official said. Three of the accused have been identified as R. Menon (35), Manikandan (32) and H. Pandi, he said. The official said that in October last year, a 65-year-old businessman from the western suburbs received a call from one of the accused, who posed as an employee of a Dubai-based investment company. The caller offered him attractive returns on investment in the company, he said. As the businessman showed interest in investing, the caller introduced him to the firm's director, who offered him 10 per cent returns per month and shares of the same value of the company, the official said. He said that the complainant then deposited money in November and noticed that the bank account used for the transaction was a personal account. On inquiry, the firm's director claimed that the account belonged to an employee and that the sum would be transferred to the company, the official said. In March, the accused invited the complainant for a visit to Dubai, where he found that the firm, in which he had invested Rs 5.24 crore over four months, did not exist. The official said when the businessman tried to contact the firm's owner, he was told that the latter was in the US, and when he demanded the return of his investment, the accused allegedly sent him fake cheques, demand drafts and other documents.
