Best 5 stargazing locations in the world sees a surprising entry in Hawaii's Mauna Kea

Astro-tourism is one of the fastest-growing travel trends of 2025, with an increasing number of travellers seeking out destinations where they can do things like take in the northern lights, experience solar eclipse events or immerse themselves in dark sky zones.

To help stargazers find the best locations around the globe, the booking platform Planet Cruise researched and ranked the top global destinations for astro-tourism.
The Planet Cruise ranking involved key factors including a location's latitude, average elevation, light pollution levels and the number of Instagram posts mentioning astro-events like the northern lights.
While many of the locations that topped the ranking are fairly predictable, such as Iceland, Switzerland and Canada, there is one unexpected US destination that landed among the top five astro-tourism locations globally: Mauna Kea, Hawaii.

For those not familiar with Mauna Kea – a dormant volcano – it is the island's highest mountain, at 4,207 metres (13,802ft), and suffers from minimal light pollution – both of which help people view the night sky.

Who is Heather Graham's boyfriend John De Neufville? The Chosen Family and Austin Powers actress hasn't been shy in sharing snaps of her beau, who's a Guinness world record-holding snowboarder

Actress Heather Graham says her latest film, Chosen Family, (which she both stars in and directs) is about what happens when a reformed people pleaser like her says no. 'I wanted to take some things in my life that I had found hard and painful and turn it into comedy,' she told The Guardian last month. Her new-found confidence is often evident in photos she posts on Instagram too. After spending the Christmas holidays learning how to ski from her snowboarder boyfriend John De Neufville, she shared snaps of her getaway to Jackson, Wyoming. One of the pictures featured Graham showing off her toned body, wearing a blue string bikini in a hot tub. Another showed her snuggling close to her man. 'Before, I was more: 'What do other people think?' Now I'm just like, f*** it,' she told The Guardian. Advertisement Heather Graham is an actress. Photo: @imheathergraham/Instagram 'Happy New Year! Hope this year brings us all lots of love and good vibes. I'm learning how to ski from @bennyskispowder and looking for ways to be healthy and happy in the new year,' she wrote in the Instagram caption. Heather Graham has been linked to John De Neufville since 2022. Photo: @ Graham, 55, and De Neufville, 49, have been linked since 2022, but what do we know about her Hollywood outsider boyfriend? Here's what to know about John De Neufville. He's a snowboarder Unlike Graham's previous relationships with high profile Hollywood actors, this time she has chosen someone much more low-key. While not much is known about John De Neufville's work except that he is a snowboarder, he has been spotted on several getaways with Graham since they began dating in 2022.

How a Hong Kong digital nomad artist expanded her colour palette through travel

For Hong Kong-born artist Sarah Tse Man-heng, the ultimate studio has no walls. Instead it has beaches, vast savannahs and forest floors blanketed in flowers and fungi. An elephant might swing by, maybe even a monkey. Advertisement Tse, 39, is a digital nomad artist who combines a love for travel with art, creating works inspired by the diverse cultures and landscapes she encounters. A scroll through Tse's Instagram account reveals stunning paintings created in equally stunning locations. In one photo, taken this year near Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, Tse is deep in her work while a seven-tonne elephant casually strolls behind her. The photo was taken at a reserve run by Elephant Crew, a charity that rescues elephants from the cruel commercial wildlife tourism industry that have bonded with humans and would not survive in the wild, as well as calves orphaned by ivory poaching. Tse paints elephants in Zimbabwe in March. Photo: Sarah Tse Another photo from 2023 shows Tse painting 'somewhere in a forest' about 45km (28 miles) from the city of Tampere in southern Finland. She is working on The Magic Mushrooms, which she created during her one-month residency in the country. 6 hotspots where art deco still dazzles, from London to Shanghai

Opened in Paris 100 years ago this month, the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs introduced the world to a bold design movement defined by sleek lines, geometric patterns and a streamlined symmetry. Advertisement Art deco would leave its mark on a wide array of design, influencing everything from skyscrapers to cinemas, even finding its way into London's Tube stations. Dubbed the 'first international style', it blended glamour with modernity, shaping architecture from Miami to Manila. As the centenary of art deco approaches, we spotlight six destinations where this timeless design still dazzles. 1. London, Britain Brasserie Zédel features typical art deco tiled floors. Photo: @brasseriezedel/Instagram London boasts some of the finest examples of interwar art deco architecture. In the heart of Westminster, the former Underground Electric Railways Company headquarters – now the London Transport Building – was completed in 1929. Designed to project modernity and efficiency, it perfectly represented the ambitions of the booming British capital. The Hoover Building, in Perivale, West London, completed in 1933 for the American vacuum cleaner company, also stands out with its symmetrical facade and bold colour scheme, making it a favourite among design enthusiasts. For a taste of continental chic, Brasserie Zédel, near Piccadilly Circus, is a must visit. Hidden behind an unassuming entrance, the spacious dining room channels the spirit of 1930s Parisian brasseries. With its marble pillars and soft lighting, Zédel provides an escape into the style and sophistication of a bygone age and serves as a unique cultural time capsule. 2. Miami Beach, the US Art Deco Weekend on Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, in January 2017. Photo: Shutterstock This Florida resort city lays claim to the world's largest concentration of art deco architecture. Along Ocean Drive and its neighbouring streets, nearly 800 preserved buildings shimmer in pastel hues, creating one of the most recognisable streetscapes in the US. Following a destructive hurricane in 1926, the city was rebuilt and art deco creations flourished. The style, both glamorous and affordable, transformed the cityscape and would go on to serve as a cinematic backdrop to films such as Scarface (1983) and The Birdcage (1996). The candy-coloured buildings also featured prominently in the television series Miami Vice.
