Oakley names Travis Scott as chief visionary

American eyewear brand Oakley, based in Southern California, has appointed rapper, producer and entrepreneur Travis Scott as its chief visionary to 'reimagine the future' of the brand.
In a statement, Oakley said Scott has been a 'huge driving force on Oakley's cultural renaissance,' by wearing the Oakley brand and integrating its eyewear and logo into his post-apocalyptic tour wardrobe on his record-breaking Circus Maximus tour.
Oakley has signed a multi-year partnership with Scott and will work closely with the rapper and his Cactus Jack team to push 'the boundaries of design, innovation, and cultural impact to new heights'.
The move to appoint Scott as chief visionary is the starting point of a new chapter in Oakley's 50-year legacy 'of making the unconventional feel inevitable,' added the sports performance eyewear and accessories brand.
Caio Amato, global president of Oakley, said: 'Today marks a bold new chapter in Oakley's history as we proudly welcome Travis Scott as our chief visionary - a title that speaks to creativity, belief, and purpose, to forge something that's not only different - it's defining.' The partnership will see Scott and his Cactus Jack creative team working with Oakley's team to create new campaigns, reimagine Oakley's classic catalogue of styles, and offer perspective on Oakley's future eyewear and apparel, featuring some of Scott's on-stage tour favourites.
In addition, Oakley and Scott will create totally new eyewear styles together and introduce collaborative apparel through Travis Scott's Cactus Jack brand lens. CJ x Oakley 'Day Zero' poster pack Credits: Oakley
Commenting on his new role, Scott added: 'I'm inspired by what people think can't be done. It's about pushing culture and reworking ideas to see how far they can go.
'Oakley's design game is next level, and I had to be part of that. We're building something that blends legacy with the future - this is just the beginning.'
To celebrate the partnership, three 'Day Zero' items will be available on Scott's website, 'riffing on classic sunglass marketing materials'. The limited drop also includes a 3-poster pack and two apparel pieces 'offering an early glimpse' into what's coming from the collaboration.
Scott is the latest global artist to move into the eyewear game. On June 9, J Balvin unveiled a new design-focused line in partnership with high-performance sunglasses, goggles and eyewear brand Revo, called 'Nrgy by Revo'. Oakley Meta glasses campaign Credits: Oakley
The news follows Oakley teaming up with Meta to deliver a brand-new category of performance AI glasses. The Oakley Meta glasses combine the brand's signature design DNA and bold aesthetics with Meta's cutting-edge technology, complete with a built-in camera, open-ear speakers integrated into the frames, and an IPX4 water resistance rating.

Rangers gain ‘global gravitas' from US partnership – 49ers chief Paraag Marathe

The Ibrox club were earlier this month taken over by an American consortium spearheaded by private healthcare businessman Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, the investment arm of the San Francisco-based NFL franchise. Marathe, who is also the Leeds chairman, has been involved with the 49ers for more than two decades and, having become Gers vice-chairman, the American is excited about the opportunities beckoning for the Glasgow club as they embark on their much-hyped new era. 'I think it is pretty objectively true that the San Francisco 49ers are one of the biggest sports brands in the world, and certainly one of the most recognisable,' said Marathe, facing the Scottish media for the first time. Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh (left) and Marathe shake hands in front of the tunnel at Ibrox (Andrew Milligan/PA) 'Rangers is a gem of European football, and what the 49ers can bring is a certain global gravitas and awareness to Rangers. 'Now, take the States or other places where the 49ers are top of mind, now all of a sudden Rangers are in that same sentence. Why does that matter? It matters when we are out with commercial partners who care about how many times they are going to be mentioned, how many times their name will come up. That has monetary value. 'It has helped us with Leeds. In terms of one not being subordinate to the other, selfishly speaking, it actually helps the 49ers too, bringing it more into the conversation globally and bringing that awareness. 'I know from my experience at Leeds and I am already seeing some of the early returns, it matters to players that we are out recruiting. 'Oh, wait a second, the 49ers are involved in this'. This must mean that there is a certain extra gravitas that comes to it that helps us in the recruitment of players.' Marathe dismissed any notion that Rangers may play second fiddle to newly-promoted Premier League side Leeds in the eyes of Marathe or the 49ers. 'I will do whatever I need to do to keep me on the winning side of the ledger at any club,' he said. 'That is all I care about. 'It would be a disservice to Leeds and Rangers to consider one a feeder club to the other. Consider them both closed-loop universes that deserve proper attention and nurture and care – we will designate and assign resources appropriately. 'But it's obvious that there are opportunities to learn from each other, whether it's commercially or competitively on the pitch. 'In my mind it's a real positive to have two clubs like that, but there's not one that is subordinate to the other. That would be a disservice.' Rangers Chairman Andrew Cavenagh and Vice Chairman Paraag Marathe both spoke to RangersTV after all resolutions were passed at today's EGM. — Rangers Football Club (@RangersFC) June 23, 2025 Marathe also allayed any concerns that Rangers and Leeds qualifying for the same European competition might cause similar problems to those encountered by Crystal Palace, whose Europa League spot was in doubt before American owner John Textor – also a shareholder in French side Lyon – sold his stake in the London club. 'We have checked the box with those that we need to to make sure that if and when there was ever even a situation where there was even the perception of a conflict, we would solve that,' Marathe said. 'That has already been solved, so we are good there.'

Prince of Wales leaves surprise message on Radio 2

William left the message to highlight the Earthshot Prize – a global environmental award of which he is founder and president. Also appearing on the show on Tuesday morning was conservationist and presenter Robert Irwin, who was in the studio with Mills to answer voicenotes with animal-themed questions from children. Irwin, who is the son of the late Australian conservationist Steve Irwin, was told by Mills there was just one voicenote left to be played and was shocked to hear that it was none other than Prince William. William said: 'Good morning, Scott, or should I say G'day, Scott? I know you've got the fantastic Robert Irwin on the show this morning, brilliant ambassador for the Earthshot Prize. Sorry, I can't be with you both this morning, hoping to catch up with you soon.' The prince went on: 'You're very much invited to the Earthshot Prize in Rio in Brazil in November. It's going to be a fantastic event, great show. 'Just beware Scott, that Robert likes to pull random terrifying animals and creatures out of his pockets while he's on anyone's show and talking to them. So just watch your back at all times that a tarantula or something doesn't suddenly pop onto your desk. 'But listen, have a good show, and hope to catch up on you both very soon. Goodbye.' Irwin, who is an ambassador for the Earthshot Prize, was left laughing by the message. He also spoke to Scott about continuing his father's legacy as a committed conservationist. Each year, five winners are awarded the Earthshot Prize from a shortlist of 15. On its website it describes Brazil as being a fitting place to host the prize in November, as it is home to more than half of the Amazon rainforest and nearly a fifth of the world's biodiversity.
