State readying sand erosion management plan: Goa CM

on Thursday said state govt has started a study to prepare a comprehensive sand erosion management plan to save
Goa
's coastline. He said if beaches are not saved, tourists will no longer visit Goa.
Sawant urged the people to strictly implement the single-use plastic ban in the state from World Environment Day (June 5). He said Goa is the number one state for working towards preserving biodiversity.
He said state govt continues with sustainable development while maintaining 66% green cover and protecting eco-sensitive areas. He went on to urge the business community to work towards preserving the environment while pursuing entrepreneurial success.
'Sand erosion and soil erosion are big issues in the state. In the future, we have to save beaches, and people have to come to Goa,' Sawant said at the World Environment Day function held at Raj Bhavan. He added, 'We have to stop sand erosion, and to do that, we have started to conduct a study to prepare a soil erosion management plan.'
Sawant said the single-use plastic ban is on paper, but govt will start implementing it now on the ground.
'We will strictly implement the ban on single-use plastic from Thursday,' he said. 'We have to say no to single-use plastic. We should use cloth bags while visiting markets.'
Sawant said that mangroves and khazan management plans have been approved to save those natural assets. He said the Goa State Pollution Control Board works to bring solutions and not to harass any people.
'If we want to keep Goa clean and green, the pollution control board has to act. Goa is a small state, and it will not take time to destroy it,' Sawant said. 'We have to work to protect the state.'
The chief minister said Goa is one of the cleanest states and has two solid waste management plants under the public-private partnership model. Sawant urged industries to run effluent treatment plants at their units and reuse water. He said state govt started setting up sewerage treatment plants across the state, including on the coastal belt.
The chief minister said that nobody should give plants in cement pots at any function to guests, as the plants never survive, and the pot does not decompose for 1,000 years. Instead, he suggested gifting coir pots so that the plants can survive.

Binoy said Prasad called the official in charge at Raj Bhavan and enquired about the changes. 'He was told floral offerings would be made to a portrait of Bharatamba. The minister said details of the portrait should be shared as it is a government event and unprecedented changes, for both the government and Raj Bhavan, are now being incorporated,' he said.

A day after green event, LMC red-faced
Half a dozen of the saplings planted by urban development minister AK Sharma and other officials at Laxman Mela Ground disappeared on Friday, just a day after the plantation drive, raising serious questions over the Lucknow Municipal Corporation's (LMC) planning and execution. The plantation was part of a major event on World Environment Day, Ganga Dussehra, and the birthday of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, on Thursday. Officials had planted over 30 saplings at the site. Of the 10 saplings planted in a row -- each protected by tree guards -- by minister Sharma, mayor Sushma Kharakwal and municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar, only four remained by Friday morning. A ground report by HT on Friday morning revealed six empty pits, while the saplings were missing. However, LMC claimed that the plants were 'shifted' to another location as a large number of people visit Laxman Mela Ground during festivals. Despite the presence of top officials and the appointment of additional municipal commissioner Arun Kumar Gupta as nodal officer, LMC failed to identify a suitable location for the plantation drive. Officials acknowledged that the site is actually used for idol immersion during major festivals, and the area turned into a dumping ground just hours after the Thursday event. However, soon after the issue came to light, the LMC staff started planting the saplings again in what appeared to be a damage control effort. Criticising LMC's 'casual approach', environmentalists said inability to safeguard saplings planted in the presence of a minister would dent the credibility of regular plantation drives. Prabhunath Rai, president of Bhojpuri Samaj, claimed the saplings were removed by LMC officials themselves after realising that the site was wrongly selected. 'This is pure negligence,' Rai said. Mayor Sushma Kharakwal directed additional municipal corporation Arun Kumar Gupta to prepare and submit a detailed report. Meanwhile, LMC claimed to have planted over 1,000 saplings across the city as part of the same initiative, including those of rudraksha, banyan, amla, and kaner. The campaign also featured activities under 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' and 'Plogging for Plastic' campaigns. A human chain was also formed for environment conservation at the Gomti riverfront.

Telangana: MoS Defence Sanjay Seth visits Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) in Secunderabad
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 6 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, visited Military College of Electronics & Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) on Friday. He was briefed by the Commandant, Lt Gen Neeraj Varshney, VSM, about the training activities at the institution. He interacted with the soldiers and visited the new Drone Training Lab, 'Drone Alaya', and discussed ways and means to develop indigenous anti-drone systems to prevent Kamikaze attacks. He witnessed the new projects of staff on radars in super high-altitude areas and appreciated the work of EME technicians in Operation Sindoor and MCEME's initiatives in promoting Atmanirbharta in defence technologies along with MSMEs & Startups. Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth also planted a tree on MCEME's premises. Earlier in the day, Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, visited Ordnance Factory Medak in Telangana. Seth was received by Sanjay Dwivedi, CMD/AVNL, in the presence of Satyabrata Mukherjee, Director/Operations. As per a release, Sanjay Seth inspected the production facilities and enquired about the production schedules. The Union Minister was shown all the products manufactured at OF Medak. The visit ended successfully on a positive note. Earlier, Sanjay Seth announced the expansion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) by three lakh cadets across the country. Several states have already agreed to support this plan and have committed to fast-tracking the necessary training infrastructure, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Defence. 'He also announced the planned expansion of NCC by Three lakh cadets across the country with several States already extending their concurrence and committing to fast-track the necessary training infrastructure,' the MoD statement read. 'National Cadet Corps (NCC) is an organisation that instils the feeling of nationalism, service... PM Modi has resolved that the number of cadets in the NCC should be between 17-20 lakhs... All the states positively contribute to it and we will achieve the target shortly...' Seth said. (ANI)
