‘Saboot gang not happy with what India achieved': BJP's Sambit Patra slams Congress leaders for remarks post-Operation Sindoor

A day after it accused Congress communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh of putting terrorists and Members of Parliament in the same category, the BJP launched an attack on the party for allegedly bringing down the morale of the Indian armed forces and common citizens on multiple occasions.
BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, quoting news articles acknowledging the might of India's retaliation against Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, accused the Congress of being a 'saboot gang' in cahoots with Pakistan.
'In this climate, it is painful that there are political parties and especially the Congress who, in the beginning, said they are standing with the nation and with the government but they did not actually stand by either for a single day. From day one, Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh and several of their leaders, including Robert Vadra and the entire Congress leadership, have raised questions regarding the Indian Army and its valour,' Patra alleged.
'This saboot gang is not happy at what India has been able to achieve (in Operation Sindoor)…just think about it: Jairam Ramesh, who is the right-hand man of the Gandhi family, makes a statement that terrorists are roaming around here, MPs are roaming around there (in foreign countries). In one breath, you have put terrorists and MPs in the same category?' he asked.
Adding that these delegations also included Congress MPs, Patra further asked, 'Did you not think about the fact that the MPs who are travelling as part of foreign delegations are not on vacation but have been deputed to effectively put forth India's stance (on Operation Sindoor) on the world stage? And that these include your MPs too?'
Acknowledging that Congress MPs too were 'effectively communicating' India's stance on the world stage, Patra took on senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for 'shedding tears for terrorists.'
'There used to be a time when terrorists used to be called to the PMO; at Sonia-ji's instructions, the then PM used to call terrorists to his office and home. They used to be welcomed and given gifts. We should also recall how Sonia-ji used to cry seeing the bodies of dead terrorists…days when Rahul Gandhi used to party after attacks like 26/11… Such people are saying this today?' he asked.
'It saddens me that Rahul Gandhi, Revanth Reddy and (Jairam) Ramesh-ji are all asking how many of India's planes have been downed since day one. Is this a question worth asking? Indian armed forces destroyed nine terrorist hideouts — there is satellite imagery of this which has been provided. All the facts were presented in the DGMOs' press conference. There were before and after images,' he said.
The same was the case with the 11 Pakistani airbases attacked by the Indian armed forces, he said, adding that all these were presented with proof. 'If a plane is downed, there is wreckage to prove it; there are satellite images of it too. When a plane is downed, ripples are sent through the international world order… Experts weigh in on it — but did anything like this happen?' he asked.
Patra then quoted Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's statement admitting that India had attacked Pakistani military bases with BrahMos missiles even as it was preparing to retaliate against India's strikes at nine locations on the intervening night of May 9 and 10.
'Rahul Gandhi, why are you asking us for a report card or proof when your own friend…Shehbaz Sharif himself has provided it?' he also asked.
All these statements, Patra alleged, were 'synchronised', with the Congress's senior leadership on the one hand saying that it stood by the government even as its other leaders gave statements questioning the necessity of war and India's decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty.
'Just think about it: Rahul Gandhi did not ask even once how many Pakistani airbases had been destroyed, how many terror camps were destroyed or how many terrorists were killed,' he alleged.
'The country knows that there are two camps in the Congress party — one which is supporting Pakistan and the other which consists of leaders who do want to raise their voice for the sake of the country but are not able to do so because of you…your Jai Hind Yatra, where it is asked how many Indian planes were downed, seems more like a Jai Pakistan Yatra,' he added.
Taking on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's comments questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Operation Sindoor, Patra asked, 'She is asking whether PM Modi is everyone's husband? What kind of language and statement is this? I would just like to say that PM Modi is everyone's sewak and brother, there is no doubt.'
'What is also undoubtable is that all these Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators entering India have been given shelter only by you,' he alleged.

No one trusts Bandi Sanjay's comments on Congress: TPCC leader

HYDERABAD TPCC official spokesperson Chanagani Dayakar has dismissed Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar's claims that Congress is behind the controversy related to BRS MLC K. Kavitha's letter to her father and party chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao and termed them baseless. Speaking to the media on Saturday, he accused BJP and BRS of enacting a drama as they are hand in glove. He also alleged that the BJP led Central government is protecting the corrupt BRS party. Mr. Dayakar questioned the BJP's credibility, pointing out that the party has failed to address the people's concerns and has instead resorted to spreading false propaganda. 'People of Telangana have known about BRS and BJP's drama politics for 11 years,' he said. The TPCC spokesperson also slammed Sanjay for his comments on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, calling them shameful and baseless. 'It's unfortunate that Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay is not even aware that the phone tapping case is being investigated,' Dayakar added. He defended Indira Gandhi, saying that Bandi Sanjay doesn't have the stature to comment on the former Prime Minister. Questioning the BJP government's intentions, he asked why Prime Minister Modi didn't call an all-party meeting after Operation Sindoor ended, despite having called one before it. He also accused BJP leaders of being protective shields for the BRS party. Dayakar claimed that the BJP will not come to power in Telangana as the people are disgusted with the BJP led by central government's rule for 11 years.

Row over Afridi's appearance at Dubai Cusat alumni event, univ denies links

Kochi: The participation of Pakistani cricketers Shahid Afridi and Umar Gul in an inter-collegiate dance event organised by an alumni association of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) in Dubai on May 25 has sparked outrage. The association — Cochin University BTech Alumni Association (CUBAA), UAE — issued an apology, saying the incident was not intentional, after a video of Afridi being welcomed at the event went viral. The event was held at the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD). Cusat, however, said it had no affiliation, association or connection with the organisation, CUBAA UAE. It said in a statement that its official alumni organisation was the Cusat Alumni Network (CAN) and it was not aware of the programme organised in Dubai. In the video, the crowd can be seen cheering Afridi and chanting his nickname "Boom Boom" as he addressed the gathering. Several outfits affiliated with the Sangh Parivar criticised the organisers for inviting Afridi to the event. Afridi had made several anti-India remarks, particularly in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack . Former BJP state president K Surendran accused the organisers of disrespecting Indians who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack. "If not traitors, what else can you call the Malayali organisation that brought Pakistani cricketers for a celebration in Dubai," he said in a Facebook post. ABVP has called for the cancellation of the passports of CUBAA UAE office-bearers and submitted complaints to the Prime Minister and the ministry of external affairs. ABVP Kerala state secretary EU Eswaraprasad said Afridi had expressed support for terrorist groups hostile to India. "The alumni association's approach is suspicious and the event, held in the presence of anti-India forces, undermined the martyrdom of Pahalgam victims and humiliated India globally," he said. The event organisers, meanwhile, released a detailed statement, saying the appearance of the Pakistani cricketers was entirely unplanned. Without naming Afridi, they said PAD was booked for the second season of their inter-collegiate dance competition well before the escalation of India-Pakistan tensions. The first season was also organised at the venue last year, due to its affordability, they said in a statement. "At the time of our event, diplomatic tensions had already eased. Due to the unavailability of an alternative venue at short notice, we proceeded with the programme as scheduled at PAD," it added. CUBAA representatives also claimed that the cricketers had come to the auditorium for another event on the day. "As our programme was concluding, the cricketers made an unannounced and unsolicited appearance... We would like to categorically state that no member of our organising team, officials or alumni invited them or coordinated this appearance. The official schedule of the event we published, which does not include these individuals as guests, supports this," they said. The organisers further said they could not manage the crowd appropriately as the cricketers' visit was a surprise. "We regret any confusion or inconvenience caused to attendees, participants or supporters due to this unplanned development. We deeply regret any hurt or offence our actions may have caused. It was never our intention, and we sincerely apologise to those affected," they added.

Won't demolish slums, dwellers are city's lifeline: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta

New Delhi: Describing slum dwellers as service providers and the lifeline of Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday assured that no slum colonies in the city will be demolished without rehabilitation. She also announced that Rs 700 crore has been allocated for carrying out development works like toilets and washrooms for women in slums. In a special conversation hosted by actor Anupam Kher at the '100 Din Sewa Ke' event organised at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to mark 100 days of the BJP government, CM Gupta sympathised with slum dwellers in the city, saying, 'None of the previous governments really cared for them. They have been living in slums for decades.' Dismissing rumours spread by the opposition regarding slum demolitions, she said, 'Unless every slum dweller receives a permanent home, they will continue to live in their current shelter — but with improved facilities and dignity.' Criticising the previous AAP government and its false promises, CM Gupta said, 'While they sat in Sheeshmahal, we have rebuilt Delhi with honesty.' She also highlighted how the PM-JAY health insurance scheme was approved in the very first Cabinet meeting. On the health front, the CM said, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission has also been implemented across hospitals, where Jan Aushadhi Kendras are being set up. Further, advanced healthcare units such as LMU, NAT testing, and a medical genetics ward have been established at Lok Nayak Hospital, ensuring high-quality care. Talking about achievements in the education sector, she said, 'While previous governments only focused on publicity, we approved the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation & Regulation of Fees) Bill 2025 to end the arbitrariness of private schools.' The CM also hit out at the previous AAP government for leaving behind mountains of waste, turning Delhi into a landfill. She said her government has taken concrete steps to eliminate these legacy waste sites, as 24x7 legacy waste processing has been started, with about 30,000 metric tonnes of garbage being biomined daily. 'Waste-to-energy plant installations are progressing swiftly. The target is to completely remove the Bhalaswa and Okhla landfill sites within the next two years,' she said. Currently, Delhi has four operational waste-to-energy plants, and two new plants in Narela and Ghazipur are under rapid construction. Expansions of the Okhla and Tehkhand plants are also underway. Moreover, a modern e-waste park is being developed in Holambi Kalan, she said. Talking about environmental protection, CM Gupta criticised the previous government for turning Delhi into a gas chamber. In contrast, she said, her government has prioritised pollution control by deploying 1,000 sprinklers throughout the year and approving 70 advanced mechanical road sweeping machines. 'Installation of smog guns in all high-rise buildings has also been made mandatory. Additionally, under the DEVi (Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector) initiative, 460 electric buses have been introduced for last-mile connectivity, and 2,000 more electric buses will be added by the end of the year,' she said. On the Yamuna River, the CM highlighted that the previous government merely put up a show in the name of cleaning the river, while untreated sewage continued to flow into it. In contrast, her government made the rejuvenation of Yamuna a top priority from day one, she said.
