Kerala govt employee suspended for offensive remarks on plane crash victim
KASARGOD: A. Pavithran, Junior Superintendent at Vellarikundu Taluk office, has been suspended from service after posting an obscene comment on social media about Ranjitha R Nair, a Malayali woman who lost her life in the recent Ahmedabad plane crash.
The incident came to light when Pavithran left a derogatory remark beneath a condolence post for the victim on Facebook.
The post triggered public outrage and widespread protests across social media platforms. Following this, Revenue Minister K Rajan intervened and directed Kasaragod District Collector Imbasekar K to immediately suspend the official.
'A Pavithran, Junior Superintendent of Vellarikundu Taluk, has been suspended for posting an abusive comment targeting Ranjitha R. Nair, who died in a tragic plane crash. Such a despicable act is unbecoming of a government employee. An immediate suspension order was issued once this came to my attention,' the minister stated in a Facebook post.
This is not the first time Pavithran has faced disciplinary action. He was previously suspended in September 2024 for an abusive post against former minister and MLA E Chandrasekaran. That suspension was lifted just a month ago.
Despite deleting the offensive comment following the public backlash, Pavithran now faces growing demands for his permanent dismissal from government service.

While criticising Kejriwal and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia for 'having nothing to do' after their crushing defeat in Delhi Assembly elections and behaving like 'uninvited guests' in Punjab, the lyrics of these song also mock Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for willingly handing power to his 'bosses in Delhi'. The songs, sung by unknown male and women artists are mouthed by AI-generated characters and in some videos animated versions of Kejriwal, Sisodia and Mann are used. 'Aari aari aari, tut pain Keju ne, jado di Dilli ae haari, dera Punjab la liya, moti besharmi dhaari…(ever since this Kejriwal has lost Delhi, he has shamelessly set up his base in Punjab…),' goes one song in Punjabi in a woman's voice. Starting with 10 days of 'vipassana (meditation)' at Hoshiarpur on 4 March this year, Kejriwal has been launching campaigns, inaugurating centres, and laying foundation stones of buildings—nearly every week in Punjab. Since the Delhi debacle, Kejriwal has made only three public appearances in Delhi. However, in Punjab, he has made roughly a dozen appearances, flying in a state government chopper along with CM Mann. Currently, without a steady abode in Punjab, Kejriwal enjoys the hospitality of party MLAs, who gladly host him during visits to the state. Senior-most officers in Punjab are also purportedly reporting to Kejriwal, meeting him either during his visits to Punjab or going to Delhi to discuss files. Another AI-generated song also portrays the plight of the party volunteers. 'Asi dariya vichhande rahe jhaad ke, aude dilli vaale le gaye…sade cha saare paira ch litaar ke, aude dilli waale le gaye…(we kept spreading clean mattresses during rallies and gatherings but all the positions went to those from Delhi, all our wishes were strangled and the positions were given to those from Delhi).' Apart from the songs which are supporting the AAP's Punjab team over the Delhi team, there are some created through AI to support Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu in the forthcoming Ludhiana West bypoll. Ashu, a former MLA from the constituency is contesting against the frontrunner, AAP's Sanjeev Arora who is a Rajya Sabha MP. It is widely believed that Arora has been fielded in Ludhiana by the party to ensure a seat for Kejriwal in the Rajya Sabha. The party is, as a result, pulling out all stops to win the Ludhiana West seat. The bypoll is on 19 June and was necessitated by the death of sitting AAP MLA Gurpreet Singh Gogi following an accidental fire from his own firearm in January this year. Repugnant remarks against flight crash victim: Arrested Kerala official likely to lose job
KASARGOD: Breaching all standards of civility, a government official took to social media, hurling obscene and casteist remarks to malign the Malayali nurse who lost her life in the Ahmedabad air crash. A Pavithran, a junior superintendent with the revenue department, is now under arrest, and his dismissal from service seems imminent. Kasaragod District Collector Imbasekar K on Friday recommended to the government Pavithran's dismissal from service, citing his history as a habitual offender. Despite several warnings, punishments and granting opportunities for correcting his actions, Pavithran of the Vellarikundu taluk office refused to reform and continued with his misdeeds, 'bringing disrepute to the revenue department and the government,' the collector said in his report. Hosdurg police arrested Pavithran from his office. A case has been registered against him under non-bailable provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Sections 196, 75, and 67A) and the IT Act. A medical examination proved that he was intoxicated while on duty at the time of the arrest, police said. Pavithran sparked outrage after posting his remark under a Facebook condolence post for Ranjitha G Nair. Though he deleted the comment following intense backlash, screenshots had already gone viral, triggering widespread anger on social media. Despicable act, says minister Revenue Minister K Rajan intervened and ordered Pavithran's immediate suspension. 'Such a despicable act is unbecoming of a government employee. An immediate suspension order was issued once this came to my notice,' the minister said in a Facebook post. There have been several past disciplinary proceedings against Pavithran. In August 2023, the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) issued a formal warning against him after a complaint was lodged by the president of Nellikattu Shrimad Paramashiva Vishwakarma Temple, alleging defamatory posts on social media. In February 2024, he received another stern warning following a complaint by Kasaragod native V Bhuvanachandran, who accused Pavithran of defamation through social media posts. Despite the reprimands, Pavithran continued his misconduct. Last September, he was suspended for posting casteist remarks against former minister and Kanhangad MLA E Chandrasekharan on FB. Though disciplinary proceedings followed, the matter was later settled with censure. Pavithran was reinstated on November 7.
