Russian Language Day held to promote cooperation, cultural exchange
AMMAN — School of Foreign Languages at the University of Jordan (UJ) on Sunday held Russian Language and Culture Day, in cooperation with the Russian Embassy and the Russian Cultural Centre in Amman.
The event aimed to boost bilateral cultural friendship and exchange and provide an opportunity for UJ's students and the local community to gain a "closer" understanding of Russian heritage and traditions, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Dean of the School Marwan Jarrah, in the presence of the Russian Deputy Ambassador to the Kingdom Kseniya Kerpichenko, noted the importance of cultural exchange and the role of language as "a bridge of communication."
Jarrah also underlined the school's continued endeavour to build channels of "constructive" cooperation, adding that the UJ is "proud" of the academic programme to teach the Russian language and is "constantly" striving to enhance cooperation with prestigious Russian universities.
Meanwhile, Director of the Russian Cultural Centre in Amman Alexey Bukin said that it annually offers 175 scholarships to Jordanian students to pursue their studies in various disciplines at Russian universities, which contributes to enhancing mutual academic and popular ties.
The Cultural Day programme featured diverse shows that reflected "richness" of Russian culture and a screening of a short film about Russia, as well as other folkloric and literary activities.

JHCO says 28-truck aid convoy crossed into Gaza on Tuesday
AMMAN — The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) announced that a new 28-truck aid convoy, loaded with food supplies, crossed from Jordan into Gaza on Tuesday evening. JHCO Secretary-General Hussein Shibli said that the shipment falls within Jordan's continued efforts to support the people of Gaza. He told the public service TV Al Mamlaka that land aid convoys and airdrop operations are continuing to deliver relief to beseiged Gaza 'by all possible means.' He added that Jordan has sent 282 aid trucks to the Gaza Strip over the past two weeks, of which 220 have entered the strip so far.

Jordan, partners airdrop aid into Gaza — JAF
AMMAN – The Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) said on Tuesday that it carried out a new airdrop of humanitarian aid over the besieged Gaza Strip, in cooperation with international partners. JAF said in a statement that military cargo planes from Jordan, Germany, the UAE, Belgium, France, and Italy participated in the operation. The operation delivered 75 tonnes of humanitarian assistance to the people in the war-torn Strip, the statement read. With this operation, the number of airdrop missions carried out solely by the Jordanian Armed Forces has risen to 152. Meanwhile, the total number of airdrops conducted in cooperation with brotherly and friendly countries has reached 325. Since July 27, JAF said it has delivered a total of around 762 tonnes of essential relief materials and food supplies to Gaza via these airlifts. Jordan also runs two military field hospitals in Gaza, one in the Strip's north, which was established in 2009 following the war in 2008. The second was established in Khan Younis in the south in November 2023 at the peak of the Israeli war of aggression on the coastal enclave that erupted on October 7, 2023. Besides the field hospitals in Gaza, the JAF has established the Jordanian field hospital in Nablus in late November 2023. Also, the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) has launched a daily bakery in southern Gaza, in cooperation with the Jordanian aid campaign, to provide bread to displaced Palestinians amid border closures, acute flour shortages, and soaring food prices. The organisation said the bakery produces between 35,000 and 40,000 loaves of bread daily, benefiting thousands of displaced families as part of Jordan's broader humanitarian assistance to Gaza by land and air. Jordan's humanitarian response also includes the 'Restoring Hope' initiative, launched in September 2024 under Royal directives. The programme aims to provide prosthetic limbs to individuals who have lost limbs as a result of the war. It is a collaborative effort involving the Royal Medical Services and JHCO.

AUB Press Hosts Dr. Lina Jammal at the 66th Beirut Arab International Book Fair
As part of its participation in the 66th Beirut Arab International Book Fair, AUB Press hosted an enriching panel discussion titled Indeed I Saw in a Dream: Dream Interpretation Books in Arab Literature, which brought together Lebanese scholar Dr. Lina Jammal and Dr. Bilal Orfali to explore the rich tradition of dream interpretation in Arabic literary and scholarly heritage. The event was supported by the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Chair and organized in collaboration with the Center for Arts and Humanities at the American University of Beirut (AUB).Dr. Lina Jammal, who holds a PhD in Arabic Literature from the American University of Beirut (2021), specializes in the relationship between dreams and architectural space and place in classical Arabic texts. Her academic work stands at the intersection of scholarship and the literary eye. Jammal has previously served as a Research Assistant at New York University Abu Dhabi and is currently Associate Editor of Al Markaz: Journal of Arabic Studies, published by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre and Brill. She has also translated numerous academic works from English into Arabic, further contributing to accessibility and knowledge in the Arab this conversation, Jammal and Orfali revisited the evolution of dream interpretation literature from early Islamic texts to the compilations of the Abbasid period and beyond. The discussion centered around foundational works such as Al-Qadir fi al-Taʾbīr, the most notable surviving Arabic text on dream interpretation, and explored how dreams have functioned as both narrative and epistemological tools throughout centuries of Arab-Islamic work approaches dreams not only as historical texts but as living visions, fusing the lens of the rigorous academic with the creative imagination of the writer. In her book, Indeed I Saw in a Dream, she guides her readers through the world of dreams hidden within classical manuscripts and the pages of literary this dialogue, the audience was invited to consider the enduring cultural, religious, and intellectual significance of dreams in shaping perceptions of the unseen, fate, and human consciousness. The session also addressed the challenges modern scholars face in editing, interpreting, and contextualizing these works, which remain deeply embedded in the literary and spiritual imagination of the Arab world. The discussion concluded with an engaging Q&A session, during which the audience directed insightful questions to Lina Jammal. She explained that numerous hadiths affirm the value of dreams, particularly those experienced by righteous individuals and explained their role in healing tangible illnesses.
