It was a crazy morning on 1-285 westbound in Dekalb County, Georgia on May 5 when a loose truck tire ripped through the roof of a Mercedes SUV. Many people just naturally assumed the driver and anyone else in the German luxury vehicle were killed, if not critically injured, but miraculously nobody was injured.We know from personal experience, as well as covering many runaway tire stories, that getting hit by one can be devastating. A tire mounted on a wheel is designed to roll easily, allowing one that's loose to pick up plenty of speed. Plus, a truck tire mounted to a wheel is incredibly heavy.
Plus, a loose tire can bounce, meaning it can come down directly on top of a vehicle, which appears to be what happened here. After all, the Mercedes appears to have sustained zero front end damage, but the roof is torn apart.
How the driver, survived this isn't clear, so we'll just call it a miracle. Seeing the tire sitting front of the luxury SUV, it looks rather large, like something off a commercial truck.
According to local journalist Cody Alcorn, Doraville Police say the tire came from the eastbound lanes, bounced over the median wall, then struck the SUV that was heading westbound. Officers searched for a truck that was missing a tire, but couldn't find one.
We'd be willing to bet it was a spare tire that came loose or wasn't properly secured in the first place. However, the person who was responsible for this crash never came forward.
It would be nice if a truck driver did contact police and admit his spare tire came loose, that he didn't realize it until later, but that apparently isn't happening.
Learn from this incident if you see a loose tire rolling down a road, steer clear of it. They are devastating on impact.

Headlight Out Derek begins his video standing in front of a red 2022 Toyota Corolla with an open hood. He's already frustrated. 'This is why I hate new cars,' he proclaims before delving into his story. 'Last night, I'm driving home, I pass my parents. They call me say, 'Hey you got a headlight out. You need to replace that before you get pulled over.'' The TikToker assumed that this would be an easy enough procedure. For instance, as a YouTuber demonstrated , in a 2007 Toyota Corolla you just pop the hood, locate the headlight unit, and swap in a new bulb. Derek says replacing the light on his 2022 Corolla wasn't so straightforward. 'This morning I wake up, I come out, to pull the headlight bulb out of this Toyota Corolla. 22' Toyota Corolla. And I come to the discovery that it's a sealed unit.' Changing the light in a sealed unit proves it isn't 2007 anymore. 'The bulb is not serviceable. So in order to replace it you have to replace the whole assembly. Which requires taking this bumper off.' No Bulb For You As if the sealed unit weren't bad enough, Derek's problems compounded when he called a local parts store to purchase a new light. He says he was told the bulbs weren't for sale, meaning he had precious few options for fixing his own headlight. Instead of just purchasing a single bulb, Derek was faced with a new expenditure: an entirely new assembly unit. 'I'm like, 'Yeah I know I gotta buy the whole headlight assembly. How much is that?' And they say, 'You don't want to know.'' When Derek asked if it was 'that bad,' he says a worker replied, 'Oh it's bad. You're looking at anywhere from $1,000 to $1,100 for this driver's side headlight.' Derek was astounded. 'Jesus freaking Christ,' he says in the TikTok. 'Uh, no. For one.' However, this didn't solve his problem of having a burnt out headlight. 'Cheapest one I could find was on Amazon for $120 for this particular model, XSE. But then I'm waiting a few days which means it's not gonna come in before I gotta drive to work in the mornings. Further, there's the process of replacing an entire headlight assembly. This is much more time consuming than simply switching out a bulb. Derek estimates it'll take him an entire afternoon. At this point in the video, Derek directs his lens into the engine bay of the Corolla to demonstrate that the headlight could have been made easily accessible. 'It's not like I have no room to get back there to it. Like I got all kinds of room. I could've had…a bulb that's serviceable.' Toyota Headlight Woes Derek says that bulbs for his other vehicle cost about $60 for two of the 'best.' And changing one would've taken him about 20 minutes. Of the Corolla, he says, 'Freaking waiting a few days for a headlight to come in. And then a few hours to replace it.' He believes these design choices dissuade folks from purchasing new vehicles. 'And people wonder why they don't want to buy new cars. Because they make things so unserviceable and so pricey. Why would you want to?' 'With Enough Glue and Tape It Should Hold' People were universally appalled by the cost and effort to change the headlight in Derek's 2022 Toyota Corolla. One opined that sealed front lamps should have extended shelf lives. 'An unserviceable led headlight should last longer than 3 years,' they said. Another highlighted how such a maneuver produces an inordinate amount of waste, yet 'meanwhile they have us drinking from cardboard/paper straws.' Another TikToker said that such exorbitant pricing would force them to come up with a creative solution. 'Personally, for $1000 I'm drilling and jigsawing the bulb out and wiring up a replacement. With enough glue and tape it should hold.' Another speculated this is part of a concentrated effort from auto manufacturers to fleece its customers. Clip shows fatal shooting in Brazil, not India's Bihar state
"In the era of good governance in Bihar, Pawan Dusadh was shot dead in broad daylight. If this murder took place during the reign of Tejashwi Yadav, every media channel would have said 'lawlessness has returned to Bihar'," reads a Hindi-language Facebook post. The clip, shared with captions raising concerns over public safety in Bihar, shows two people on a motorcycle shooting another person before fleeing the scene. It has been watched over 112,000 times since it was uploaded on May 30. Yadav will lead the state opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) party to challenge the coalition government -- mainly made up of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -- in elections in Bihar expected later this year (archived link). Leader of India's largest opposition Congress party Rahul Gandhi has accused Kumar of turning Bihar into the country's "crime capital", while BJP leaders in the state said the RJD was responsible for the increasing crime rate (archived here and here). The footage has circulated with similar claims on Facebook and X. Comments from users suggest they believed the claim to be genuine. "Young people who speak up and raise their voices in Bihar are being murdered in this manner to silence them and spread fear, so that the entire society remains intimidated", reads a comment. Another user wrote, "The common people are not safe at all in Bihar." But the video shows an incident from Brazil, not Bihar. A reverse image search on Google using keyframes found the video was published in a report by Brazilian broadcaster TV Tambau on October 4, 2024 with a headline that reads, "Man is killed on the road while riding a motorcycle in Mandacaru" (archived link). Further keyword searches show Brazilian website O Povo PB published a longer clip on October 8, 2024 showing the same scene from a different angle at the 3:09 mark (archived link). The website identified the victim as 22-year-old Gabriel Junior de Oliveira Medeiros, who was shot dead in the Mandacaru neighbourhood in Joao Pessoa. Images on Google Street View also show that the video was captured along the Avenida Dom Manoel Paiva in the city (archived link). AFP has debunked other false claims related to Yadav here and here.

3 killed and scores injured as Russia targets Ukraine with new attacks
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian forces have pummeled Ukraine with drones and other weapons, killing three people and injuring scores of others despite international pressure to accept a ceasefire, officials said Thursday. According to the Ukrainian air force, Russia launched a barrage of 63 drones and decoys at Ukraine overnight. It said that air defenses destroyed 28 drones while another 21 were jammed. Ukraine's police said two people were killed and six were injured over the past 24 hours in the eastern Donetsk region, the focus of the Russian offensive. One person was killed and 14 others were also injured in the southern Kherson region, which is partly occupied by Russian forces, police said. The head of the Kharkiv region, Oleh Syniehubov, said that 15 people, including four children, were injured by Russian drone attacks overnight. Kharkiv city mayor Ihor Terekhov said Russian drones targeted residential districts, educational facilities, kindergartens and other civilian infrastructure. 'Kharkiv is holding on. People are alive. And that is the most important thing,' Terekhov said. The Russian military has launched waves of drones and missiles in recent days, with a record bombardment of almost 500 drones on Monday and a wave of 315 drones and seven missiles overnight on Tuesday. The recent escalation in aerial attacks has come alongside a renewed Russian battlefield push along eastern and northeastern parts of the more than 1,000-kilometer (over 600-mile) front line. While Russian missile and drone barrage have struck regions all across Ukraine, regions along the front line have faced daily Russian attacks with short-range exploding drones and glide bombs. Ukraine hit back with drone raids. Russia's Defense Ministry said that air defenses downed 52 Ukrainian drones early Thursday, including 41 over the Belgorod region that borders Ukraine. Regional Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov said three people were injured by Ukrainian attacks Thursday. The attacks have continued despite discussions of a potential ceasefire in the war. During their June 2 talks in Istanbul, Russian and Ukrainian negotiators traded memorandums containing sharply divergent conditions that both sides see as nonstarters, making any quick deal unlikely. Speaking at a meeting of leaders of southeast European countries in Odesa, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged the European Union to toughen its latest package of sanctions against Russia. He argued that lowering the cap on the price of Russian oil from $60 to $45 as the bloc has proposed isn't enough. 'Real peace comes with a $30 cap -– that's the level that will truly change thinking in Moscow,' Zelenskyy said. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius arrived in Kyiv Thursday on an unannounced visit, noting that the stepped-up Russian attacks on Ukraine send a message from Moscow that it has 'no interest in a peaceful solution at present,' according to German news agency dpa. 'Of course this will also be about how the support of Germany and other Europeans will look in future – what we can do, for example, in the area of industrial cooperation, but also other support,' he said.
