Nitish Kumar thanks PM Modi, highlights NDA's achievements in Bihar
Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of key infrastructure and development projects in the state on Friday.
Addressing the massive crowd gathered at the venue, Nitish Kumar said, 'It is a matter of great happiness that the Prime Minister has come to Siwan. I warmly welcome and congratulate him.'
He listed the projects being launched, which include 22 urban development projects, six road projects, a rail project, and the launch of two new trains, including the Vande Bharat Express, and the first export of a locomotive from Bihar's Madhura rail factory.
Nitish emphasised that Bihar stands to gain significantly from these initiatives.
In a veiled attack on the RJD, Nitish Kumar remarked: 'People are talking 'nonsense' these days. It is meaningless. They should be asked what the condition of Bihar was before our government. No one could even step outside their homes. Look at today, so many people, including women and youth, have gathered here to listen to the Prime Minister.'
He highlighted the longstanding partnership between JDU and BJP, recalling that since November 24, 2005, the NDA alliance has continuously worked for Bihar's development.
Nitish underscored the state government's work in the sectors of education, health, and especially women's empowerment.
'We gave 50 per cent reservation to women. We constructed bridges, ensured tap water and electricity under Saat Nischay (Seven Resolves), and built toilets in every home. Even new houses and settlements are being provided with facilities,' Kumar said.
He also mentioned employment efforts: 'Government jobs were provided to thousands of youth, both men and women. I have personally inspected development work across the state and cleared 430 new schemes. Work has already started in Siwan, Gopalganj, and Saran.'
The rally marked PM Modi's fifth visit to Bihar in 2025, as the state heads toward assembly elections later this year.

The issue comes against the backdrop of Dr Bandyopadhyay's 'Kellogg College Lecture' controversy with West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, which took place in March. The now-viral confrontation saw the doctor asking Mamata Banerjee to name a single major industry that had come to Bengal during her tenure. The question triggered such chaos that university security was forced to intervene. Bandyopadhyay, a British passport holder with his origin in South Kolkata, was later released by the police. However, with the duo's detention, the BJP accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of using the police to "muzzle dissent" and "criminalise symbolic gestures". In a post on X, the saffron party's state unit posted raised concern over the "alarming" situation in Bengal, where 'even a Union Minister is denied the basic courtesy of meeting a respected doctor! As Majumdar's convoy neared the doctor's residence, police intercepted it and allegedly claimed that Bandyopadhyay was "not at home". "But the truth is, the doctor was very much at home and waited for over an hour to meet Dr. Sukanta Majumdar," the BJP stated. The doctor later stepped out of the residential complex and met the West Bengal BJP chief on the side of the road. Their interaction was cut short by the police, who detained both of them without "giving any reason", the party said. Police took both Majumdar and the doctor to the city headquarters at Lalbazar, even as party workers attempted to resist. While being escorted into a police van, Majumdar told reporters, "For what reason have we been detained? I have no clue. Nowhere in the world does something like this happen." Meanwhile, after being released, Bandyopadhyay spoke to reporters as well and said, "Is this the way to treat a British citizen? What crime have I committed? Is it a crime to meet a Union minister in Bengal? The police need to answer on what grounds I was picked up like a criminal." The BJP state unit said that this was a "clear demonstration" of CM Mamata Banerjee "wants to silence every voice being raised". BJP leader Sourav Sikdar described the detention as nothing short of "state-sponsored goondaism". "They are scared of a doctor who asked questions and a minister who came to meet him. The state is weaponizing the police," he claimed. Meanwhile, the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress defended the police's action and accused the BJP of "stage-managing provocations". "The BJP is creating deliberate provocations in sensitive areas. The doctor in question has a track record of inciting controversies. The police acted in accordance with law to ensure peace," said TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh.

Underlining that global events like Israel- Iran and Russia-Ukraine wars are having an impact on the domestic economic activity, Shah said business chambers should engage professional bodies to be relevant, which is possible if they continue to make necessary changes in their functioning. Shah also asked MACCIA to introspect on its own policies and think of how to get young blood into its working.

55,000km of rural roads built in Bihar in 10 years, says PM
Patna: Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Friday said around 55,000km of rural roads have been constructed in Bihar over the last 10 years. Addressing a public rally at Jasoli in Siwan, where he launched development projects worth over Rs 9,000 crore, Modi greeted the crowd in Bhojpuri and highlighted the state's infrastructural progress under his govt. "Despite overnight rain, a large number of people came to bless me. I promise a new beginning in Bihar," he said. The PM laid the foundation stone for a 500MW-hour battery energy storage system project, aimed at strengthening the state's power infrastructure and supporting renewable energy. The Centre has approved Rs 135 crore as viability gap funding, calculated at Rs 27 lakh per MWh or 30% of the capital cost, whichever is lower. Batteries ranging from 5MW to 20MW will be installed at substations in Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, Bhagalpur, Sitamarhi, Fatuha, Mushahari, Jamui, Kishanganj and Siwan. He also flagged off the Patliputra Junction-Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express and the first consignment of diesel locomotives manufactured at the Marhaura plant in Saran, which is being exported to the Republic of Guinea. "They used to call Saran backward, but now engines made here are being sent to Africa. Bihar will be hailed in Africa too," he said, taking a dig at the opposition RJD-Congress alliance. Modi inaugurated the new Vaishali-Deoria railway line worth over Rs 400 crore and launched a new train service on the route. He also opened six sewage treatment plants under the Namami Gange project worth over Rs 1,800 crore and laid the foundation for water supply, sanitation and STP projects valued at more than Rs 3,000 crore in various towns of Bihar. He said the new Vande Bharat train would boost tourism and industry by connecting Baba Hariharnath in Sonepur and Baba Gorakhnath in Uttar Pradesh. "It will also create job opportunities for youth," he added. Modi said more than four crore poor people have received pucca houses under PMAY, including 57 lakh in Bihar and 1.10 lakh in Siwan alone. "Three crore more houses will be built. I will not sleep peacefully. I will keep working day and night because you are my family. All our schemes prioritise the poor," he said. "What pleases me most is that many of these houses are registered in the names of women who never had property before," the PM added. Over the past few years, tap water has reached more than 12 crore households across the country, including 4.5 lakh families in Siwan, he said, adding that pipelines and STPs have now been approved for dozens of additional cities in Bihar. Goods like makhana, fruits and vegetables from Bihar will also reach international markets, he said.
