OPEN// Sisi affirms continued Egyptian efforts to achieve ceasefire in Gaza Strip, deliver humanitarian aid

CAIRO, Aug 8 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed Egypt's firm and unwavering support for brotherly Palestinian people, reaffirming Egypt's continued intensive efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, deliver humanitarian aid to the population, work toward release of hostages and detainees as well as firmly rejecting displacement of Palestinians from their land. During a phone call President El Sisi received Friday from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president voiced sincere gratitude and appreciation for Egypt's steadfast stance in support of the Palestinian cause and for the continued humanitarian assistance provided by Egypt to the Palestinian people, especially in light of the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, according to Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el-Shenawy. The spokesman added that the Palestinian president praised Egypt's strong stand against the displacement of the Palestinian people, affirming that the State of Palestine stands alongside Egypt - its leadership, army, government and people - in confronting any attempts to undermine its security and stability. Abbas also warned of the dangers of the decision taken Thursday by the Israeli government to reoccupy the Gaza Strip and displace its population to the south, describing it as a new crime that adds to the series of Israeli violations in the West Bank, including Al Quds (East Jerusalem), the spokesman said. The Palestinian president stressed his determination to continue political action at all levels, including the UN Security Council, the Arab League (AL) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to mobilize regional and international support against these plans, he added. The spokesman noted that Abbas, during the call, emphasized the need for the State of Palestine to assume full responsibility in the Gaza Strip, underscoring the importance of an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages and detainees, the delivery of humanitarian aid, Palestinian assumption of security responsibilities with Arab and international support, along with the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Strip - ensuring unity of governance, law, and legitimate arms under the umbrella of the Palestinian State. OPEN// FM: Egypt, Turkey share similar views on addressing regional crises, challenges

NEW ALAMEIN, Egypt, Aug 9 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty Saturday said that Egypt and Turkey are sharing almost identical views on ways of addressing crises and challenges facing the region. Abdelatty made the remarks during a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan Saturday in New Alamein City. Abdelatty welcomed Fidan and his accompanying delegation and praised the constructive consultations held earlier in the day, which reflected the close ties between the two countries. The top Turkish diplomat was received Saturday morning by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi who discussed with him all aspects of bilateral relations and a number of regional crises and challenges, Abdelatty said. During a meeting, Fidan listened to President Sisi's vision on these aforementioned issues, Abdelatty said. He added that the Turkish Foreign Minister's visit comes at a critical time, coinciding with the centennial of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Turkey. Celebrating this milestone reflects the depth of bilateral ties and the shared understanding of the need for coordination to strengthen cooperation, most notably through the launch of the high-level strategic council, co-chaired by President Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which was inaugurated during President Sisi's visit to Ankara in September. WTO Cuts 2026 Global Trade Growth Forecast to 1.8% Amid Trump Tariffs

Taarek Refaat The World Trade Organization (WTO) has lowered its forecast for global merchandise trade growth in 2026 to 1.8%, down from a previous estimate of 2.5%, citing the impact of higher U.S. tariffs. The WTO said the revised outlook is largely driven by shifts in U.S. import patterns but remains well below the pre-tariff projection of 2.7%. In its latest trade update, the organization warned that recent tariff changes will have a broadly negative effect on the global trade outlook. According to the report, the elevated 'reciprocal tariffs' imposed by the United States on August 7, 2020, are expected to weigh heavily on U.S. imports and reduce exports from its trading partners in the second half of 2025 and throughout 2026. The WTO now expects global merchandise trade to grow by 0.9% in 2025, revising up its April forecast of a 0.2% contraction, which had been issued after Washington announced the tariffs and a temporary 90-day suspension for some of them. The 2026 projection of 1.8% growth is significantly lower than the earlier 2.5% estimate. Business Confidence and Supply Chains WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said that uncertainty over tariffs continues to weigh heavily on business confidence, investment, and supply chains. 'Uncertainty remains one of the most disruptive forces in the global trading environment,' she noted, adding that the world has so far avoided a broader cycle of retaliatory measures that could have severely damaged global trade. The Trump administration has framed the so-called 'reciprocal tariffs' as a response to countries acting contrary to WTO principles. Established three decades ago, the WTO was designed to set global trade rules, promote open markets, and discourage high tariffs and protectionist policies. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer wrote in a New York Times op-ed this week that the U.S. is ushering in 'a new era' in the global trade system. 'The current system under the WTO framework is no longer sustainable,' he argued, adding that the U.S. had secured greater access to foreign markets in just a few months than years of WTO negotiations had achieved. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
