WNBA Player Released After 48-Point Blowout Defeat
WNBA Player Released After 48-Point Blowout Defeat originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Connecticut Sun are off to a dreadful 1-6 start to the 2025 WNBA season, and Sunday's blowout loss to the defending champion New York Liberty was by far their worst yet. It ended up being the second-largest margin of victory in WNBA history and a new franchise record for the Liberty.

New York led 90-36 before the start of the fourth quarter, closing out a dominant 100-52 win. The margin of victory wasn't the only notable stat. New York also tied their WNBA record with 19 3-pointers in the game, set on May 22, 2025, against the Chicago Sky. The Liberty also tied a league record with seven 3-pointers in the first quarter.
The Sun will try to put this loss behind them and add another win to the column on Friday against the Atlanta Dream.
However, on Monday, they announced that forward Robyn Parks has been released.
"Today, the Connecticut Sun announced that the team has waived Robyn Parks," the team wrote in a press release.

Parks didn't see any action against the Liberty but had appeared in the Sun's other six games this season. Over those outings, she totaled just two points, nine rebounds and two assists. The most minutes she played (20) came on May 20 against the Las Vegas Aces.

The 32-year-old is in only her second WNBA season, having played 37 games for the Chicago Sky in 2023.
The Sun also added in their press release that Parks will join the Greek Women's National Team at the 2025 FIBA Women's EuroBasket Championship in a few weeks.
Parks played three seasons of college basketball at VCU, appearing in 15 games. In her final season, she averaged 21.8 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.

Paige Bueckers' Coach Assigns Blame for Disappointing Start to WNBA Season
Paige Bueckers' Coach Assigns Blame for Disappointing Start to WNBA Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Dallas Wings had some hope that they would be at least somewhat competitive this season after they went a dismal 9-31 last year. Advertisement However, a few weeks into the 2025 WNBA season, they find themselves with a 1-8 record after falling to the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday by a final score of 93-79. Granted, guard Paige Bueckers, the No. 1 pick in this year's draft, has been out for the last three games after being placed in concussion protocol. But the Wings were already struggling beforehand. Head coach Chris Koclanes appears to have taken some accountability for the team's poor play by saying that he and his staff haven't gotten the job done in one area, per Joey Mistretta. "Wings HC Chris Koclanes said he and his coaching staff have done a 'poor' job of organizing rotations and gameplans to begin the 2025 season," Mistretta wrote on X. Koclanes is in his first season as a WNBA head coach. He had previously been an assistant coach for the Sparks and Connecticut Sun, as well as an assistant for the USC Trojans. Advertisement The Wings are in the midst of a rebuilding process, so some pain should be expected in the meantime while they look to develop Bueckers. However, fans are understandably impatient and looking for some sort of measurable progress. Bueckers was a big star at UConn, and she led the school to the women's NCAA championship just a couple of months ago. She is averaging 14.7 points and 6.7 assists a game so far this season. WNBA Sends Message to Veteran Guard's 34-Point Performance
WNBA Sends Message to Veteran Guard's 34-Point Performance originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Connecticut Sun guard Marina Mabrey led the team to its second win of the 2025 WNBA season on Friday. The Sun had an 84-76 victory over the Atlanta Dream, snapping their four-game win streak. Out of everyone in the game, Mabrey stood out with her 34-point performance. Advertisement The Sun are coming off a 100-52 defeat against the defending champions, the New York Liberty, on Sunday. It was the second-largest win margin in WNBA history. Mabrey's performance was also highlighted during the game. The veteran guard struggled to contribute to the Sun. Mabrey had eight points on 2-for-11 shooting from the field. Her disappointing performance was the lowest plus/minus in a single game. Connecticut Sun guard Marina Mabrey reacts with guard Saniya Butler II-Imagn Images Fortunately for the Sun, Mabrey has moved on from how she played against the Liberty. She led the team with 34 points, four rebounds and four assists on 59.1% shooting. It was the team's first win at the WNBA Commissioner's Cup and their first home victory. Advertisement Following the game, the league recognized her for logging her first 30-point game of the campaign. "Marina Mabrey took control with a game-high 34 points 😤" the WNBA posted on X. "She guided the @ConnecticutSun to their first home win and Commissioner's Cup victory, finishing with 34 PTS, 4 REB, and 4 AST. This notches her 1st 30-point performance of the szn!" Before the Sun's game against the Dream, Mabrey was averaging 15 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Due to her offensive eruption against Atlanta, her numbers are expected to improve. Connecticut will continue its season on Sunday, as it faces the Washington Mystics.
