Fyre Festival II ‘doesn't exist' says Mexican tourism board

Yahoo06-03-2025
Fyre Festival II is off to a rough start after a Mexican tourism board claimed the event doesn't actually exist.
A top official with Isla Mujeres says his team did not know about the upcoming festival, which is selling packages ranging from $1,400 to over a million dollars.
'We have no knowledge of this event, nor contact with any person or company about it,' Edgar Gasca, Director General of Economic Development and Tourism of Isla Mujeres, told the Guardian on Feb. 27. 'For us, this is an event that does not exist.'
Did Travis Scott give this WWE superstar a black eye?
Gasca also told the outlet he reached out hotels that the festival listed as a part of their accommodations, and none of them have heard about the event.
The luxury hotel, Impression Isla Mujeres, which is listed told the Guardian it hasn't been approached about this but they are investigating.
Promoter Billy McFarland, who pleaded guilty to fraud after the first Fyre Festival ended in disaster claimed he's in full compliance with state and local government.

However, in a post to Facebook, the City Hall of the Mexican island debunked that claim.
'Due to the information circulating in the media regarding the event 'Fyre Festival II' the General Directorate of Tourism of Isla Mujeres informs that no person or company has requested permits from this office of any other Municipal Government department for said event, ' the Ayuntamiento de Isla Mujeres said.
The statement explained that any additional information about tourism-related events will be announced on their official social media channels.
McFarland took to Instagram on Wednesday to clear the air following what the officials have been saying.
'First, Fyre II is real,' he explained. 'Second, we have incredible partners leading the festival. They're in charge of all the logistics, productions and operations. This includes an incredible production team in Mexico who does not F around. There is no way they would ever take on a fake festival.'
He also said the festival does have accommodations as it was a 'huge point of emphasis' after issues over the first festival.
'One, our accommodations include contracts, the number of villas, yachts and hotels. This also includes two hotels who are contacted by the media and in response, gave misleading statements saying they never heard of Fyre and they aren't working with us,' he continued. 'After hearing this, I asked my team to terminate those contracts and to focus on the hotels and other partners who are eager to work with and support Fyre.'
He also assured that the festival has various 'talent, artists, athletes and performers are on board and scheduled for Fyre.'
McFarland also cleared the air that since his release, restitution has been paid and he's made it his mission to 'do more than legally required.''My partners and I have remained in communication with local and state governments to ensure full compliance and a successful event that benefits the local economy, shares the beauty of the Mexican Caribbean with the world and helps make right for all of the wrongs… Fyre II is moving forward, and we are moving forward with full integrity. From now on, updates will come directly from me,' he said. 'I look forward to continuing to work with my great partners to bring the vision of Fyre to life and to help make right for all the wrongs.'
In 2018, McFarland was sentenced to six years in federal prison for fraud after pleading guilty to two counts of wire fraud for his role in defrauding Fyre Festival investors and ticket vendors of about $26 million.
He was released early in May of 2022, according to Rolling Stone. He was held under house arrest until September 2022.

WWE SummerSlam 2025 Confirmed Matches And Expected Main Events

More Images) WWE SummerSlam 2025 will take place across two nights for the first time ever this year, and the two-night extravaganza is shaping up to be a show for the ages. Among the key attractions inside MetLife Stadium are a WrestleMania 41 rematch pitting Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship as well as the first televised bout between CM Punk and Gunther. SummerSlam 2025 set a SummerSlam record with nearly 58,000 fans in attendance, and this year, more than 40,000 tickets have been sold for each night. The 2025 edition of WWE SummerSlam will mark Cena's final SummerSlam appearance as part of his official retirement tour. WWE SummerSlam 2025 Match Card for Saturday Last Friday, WWE revealed the match card for each night of SummerSlam 2025. There are currently six matches scheduled for Night One on Saturday, Aug. 2: Country singer Jelly Roll is stepping in as a celebrity replacement for rapper Travis Scott after the latter reportedly had a "falling out" with WWE. The WWE Women's Tag Team Championship is also a surprise addition to WWE SummerSlam as Bliss and Flair were originally set to face each other in singles action before Flair requested that the parternship continue due to the mismatched duo's surprising early success. WWE SummerSlam 2025 Match Card for Sunday WWE's second night of SummerSlam will take place on Sunday, Aug. 3, and there are just five announced matches thus far: Styles vs. Mysterio was originally scheduled for June's Night of Champions but was postponed due to an injury to 'Dirty Dom.' Also noteworthy, if Valkyria fails to beat Lynch in their 'Last Chance' match, she will not be allowed to challenge for the IC title again as Long as 'The Man' is champion. WWE SummerSlam 2025 Main Event Matches According to a report from the Wrestling Observer (h/t Sports Illustrated), 'The WrestleMania 41 rematch between John Cena and Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship is the expected close the show on Sunday. As for Saturday night, the World Heavyweight Championship bout appears to be the front runner for the main spot.' The site adds, 'Gunther vs. CM Punk is the favorite to cap off night one of SummerSlam over either of the two Women's World Title matches or any other marquee contest on the card.' In March, Punk faced Gunther at a non-televised live event in Belfast, but the two stars have never faced each other at a WWE PLE. In addition, Seth Rollins was at one expected to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase in or after that main event match, though it's unclear if Rollins' knee injury has altered those plans. If Rollins does cash in, it could mark the second consecutive WWE pay-per-view that ends with a MITB cash-in after Naomi's epic title win at Evolution. WWE SummerSlam 2025 Additional Matches The lone confirmed match that has not been officially set for either Saturday or Sunday was announced in a red hot show-closing segment on the latest SmackDown: A 6-way TLC match for the WWE Tag Team Championship. The SmackDown tag team division has been one of the brand's overlooked bright spots in 2025, and it certainly has more than enough teams to make some more magic. After previously being left off several major pay-per-views, the WWE tag team titles will finally be on the line at a marquee show. The Wyatt Sicks will defend their gold against the following teams: Andrade and Rey Fenix, The Street Profits, DIY, The Motor City Machine Guns and Fraxiom. Suffice it to say, this division has been left off too many marquee shows thus far, but it won't happen again at SummerSlam. Given that only five matches have been announced for Sunday in comparison to six on Saturday, the TLC match is likely to be added to Sunday's portion of WWE SummerSlam 2025.

WWE's Chelsea Green Says She Received Death Threats After Hulk Hogan Tribute

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Chelsea Green is stepping away from social media after receiving death threats in response to her tribute to Hulk Hogan, the late wrestling icon whose legacy remains deeply polarising. The Canadian WWE star said the backlash to her comments—made during a televised segment and later reiterated online—quickly escalated into harassment, forcing her to take a break from social media for her mental well-being. Newsweek contacted WWE via email for comment on Sunday outside of usual working hours. WWE's Chelsea Green announces a Seattle Seahawks pick during the third day of the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on April 26, 2025. WWE's Chelsea Green announces a Seattle Seahawks pick during the third day of the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on April 26, It Matters Green said she is stepping back from social media following "the name calling, the death threats, the faceless accounts" in response to her remarks about Hogan. The controversy began after Green, 34, appeared on CBS News 24/7 on Thursday, shortly after news broke of WWE legend Hogan's death, on July 24, 2025, at age 71. In the live interview, she praised his legacy and reflected on her positive personal experiences with him, while briefly noting his "polarising political views." Hogan had been a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump prior to his death. As reported by Wrestling News, her remarks, along with the now-deleted social media post, drew criticism from some fans who felt she downplayed the more controversial parts of Hogan's history, including the racism scandal that led to his temporary suspension from WWE in 2015. As reported by Newsweek, in July 2015, Hogan was suddenly removed from all WWE programming and erased from the company's website after he was revealed to have used racist slurs in a private conversation. The scandal re-emerged following Hogan's death, reigniting debate over his complicated legacy. The offensive remarks came to light as part of an investigation into a leaked sex tape that was central to Hogan's legal battle with Gawker Media. Hogan was found to have repeatedly used the n-word and made racially charged comments about his daughter's dating life. WWE swiftly terminated his contract and released a statement reaffirming its commitment to diversity and inclusion. Hogan later issued a public apology, calling his language "unacceptable" and stating it was "not who I am." His removal marked a turning point for professional wrestling's engagement with issues of racism and accountability. As one of the sport's most iconic figures, Hogan's fall from grace sent shockwaves through the industry and sparked wider conversations about how entertainment companies handle misconduct involving high-profile stars. What to Know Green faced intense backlash following her live TV interview and social media post in which she spoke respectfully about the late Hogan's impact on professional wrestling, while acknowledging his controversial political history. "Polarizing political views aside, he was an absolute icon," Green told CBS News 24/7. "If it weren't for Hulk Hogan, there are many of us in the wrestling industry that absolutely would not be here. He inspired a massive generation, so it's a loss that we are feeling deeply in the wrestling community. "I think all of the '80s and '90s babies really grew up with Hulk as their idol in one way or another," Green added later. "And I can't imagine what his family is feeling right now, but it's amazing to see the community—and not just the wrestling community, but the community—come together and honor an American icon." Green echoed the same sentiment in a now deleted follow-up tribute shared on social media, as per the Irish Star. "Political views aside, Hulk Hogan's influence on the wrestling world was clearly undeniable," she wrote. "He inspired millions and shaped an entire generation of fans, my husband included. We are mourning the loss of an icon... a legend. My love goes out to his family." Green was accused of minimizing Hogan's past racism and not adequately condemning it. In a follow-up statement on X, Green emphasized her anti-racism stance. "A significant part of my role at @WWE involves engaging w the public & responding to questions, often on live platforms. "Yesterday, I was asked to comment on Hulk Hogan on live tv. Let me be clear: my stance on racism is unwavering. I do not condone it—period." However, the criticism escalated to personal attacks, name-calling, and death threats from anonymous online accounts. In a post on her X account on Saturday, Green said: "I've tried to keep my page positive and comedic, but today, a lot changed... and it hit harder than I expected. The name calling, the death threats, the faceless accounts. "Social media was supposed to be a fun place and it hasn't been for a while. It's been overwhelming and I need to step away for a little bit." The post has since had 1.1 million views. What People Are Saying In a previous X post before leaving the platform, Green said: "If my response (or tweet) seemed dismissive of real concerns, I sincerely apologize. That was never my intention. I tried to acknowledge a death respectfully, even when the legacy is complicated. I am learning one day at a time and will continue to learn." What Happens Next Green is currently on a social media hiatus and has not announced when she plans to return.

WWE reveals SummerSlam Saturday, Sunday cards, adds new match

As Summerslam expands to a two-night format for the first time in its 37-year history, fans have been speculating about which matches will take place on Saturday, Aug. 2, and Sunday, Aug. 3. Now, they have their answer. On Friday, WWE announced the full match card during a 'SummerSlam Match Reveal Show' on its YouTube channel, where a new match was also added to the lineup. The updated card is as follows: SummerSlam Saturday: World Heavyweight Championship: Gunther (c) vs. CM Punk Women's Championship: Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Jade Cargill Women's Tag Team Championship: Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez (c) vs. Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss Roman Reigns & Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed Jelly Roll & Randy Orton vs. Logan Paul & Drew McIntyre Sami Zayn vs. Karrion Kross SummerSlam Sunday: WWE Championship: John Cena (c) vs. Cody Rhodes WWE Intercontinental Championship: Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. AJ Styles United States Championship: Solo Sikoa (c) vs. Jacob Fatu Women's Intercontinental Championship: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Lyra Valkyria Women's World Championship: Naomi (c) vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Iyo Sky Zayn's match against Kross, added Friday, could hint at Kross' future with WWE. Reportedly, Kross' deal expires next month. It remains to be seen if he'll be re-signed, despite putting in phenomenal work over the past half-year. The outcome of his match with Zayn could signal big things ahead for Kross and his wife and manager Scarlett or serve as the blowoff to their feud, with Zayn moving forward in his pursuit of championship glory. With so much attention focused on John Cena and his reign as the Undisputed WWE Champion during his retirement tour, it comes as no surprise that he will headline SummerSlam Sunday against Cody Rhodes for the title. With that in mind, WWE evened out the card well, loading up Saturday with some big names. Roman Reigns, Gunther, and CM Punk are the featured acts on Saturday's lineup, which is loaded with tag team matches. Among them, musical artist Jelly Roll teaming up with Randy Orton to face Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul. Of note, Paul Heyman's men, Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker will be in action on Saturday, battling Reigns and Jey Uso. With the Money in the Bank contract in their hands, it will be interesting to see what role Heyman's crew plays in Punk's bid for the World Title against Gunther. The match announcements come just days after WWE and Fandango unveiled a new partnership to screen premium live events in theaters. Starting with SummerSlam, select Regal Cinemas across the U.S. will host the two-night event. Tickets are on sale at While many fans may still stream the event on Peacock, others looking for a night out with fellow wrestling fans will have the option to attend in theaters — possibly choosing based on which stars appear each night.
