The influencer's body, aged 30, was found inside the back seat of a deserted car after hospital staff complained about a stench, the Bathinda police said. The body has been sent to Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death."

Kanchan, a resident of Lachman Colony in Ludhiana, had a verified Instagram account with 383,000 followers and 1,351 posts, and was active across multiple social media platforms. Months earlier, she faced public criticism from an overseas-based gangster for allegedly using objectionable language in her content, police sources revealed to The Tribune.

SP Singh added that Kanchan departed Ludhiana on June 9 to attend a promotional show in Bathinda and then lost contact with her family. "The family of the victim has been alerted and further legal action will be taken based on their affidavits," he said in a press conference. Investigators believe that she was killed somewhere else and then her body was thrown into the car. "Preliminary indications go in the direction of foul play," a police officer told ANI.

Derogatory speech by Ponmudy: Madras High Court orders notices to DGP, Chennai Commissioner of Police
The Madras High Court on Friday (June 13, 2025) ordered notices, returnable by June 25, to the Director General of Police/Head of Police Force as well as Greater Chennai Commissioner of Police on a suo motu writ petition taken up by the court for registration of a criminal case against former Minister K. Ponmudy of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for his derogatory speech against Saivites, Vaishnavites and women in general. Justice P. Velmurugan also directed the High Court Registry to furnish to the two officers, the copies of an order passed by Justice N. Anand Venkatesh on April 23, 2025 for taking up the suo motu case. Pursuant to the order, the writ was numbered with the concurrence of Chief Justice K.R. Shriram and listed for hearing before Justice Velmurugan since he holds the MP/MLA portfolio at present. Tamil Nadu Ministers Senthilbalaji, Ponmudy quit after strong court remarks Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had dropped Mr. Ponmudy from the Cabinet on April 27, 2025 pursuant to the speech delivered at a meeting organised by Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) in Chennai on April 8, 2025. Vaishnavites, on the other hand, are worshippers of Lord Vishnu in his various avatars, and consider him as the supreme being among all Hindu deities. 'To many, the religious practices of these two sects form a part of their creed,' the judge said and observed that the Minister, in his speech, ought not to have likened the Tiruman (three vertical lines sported by Vaishnavites on their forehead) and Tripundra (the three horizontal lines sported by the Saivites on their forehead) with the suggestive sexual postures by a sex worker. 'In Saivism, the horizontal lines on the forehead is a sacred religious symbol depicting Lord Shiva's three aspects: creation, preservation and destruction. In Vaishnavism, the three lines are a symbol of a Vaishnavite's devotion and commitment to the path of righteousness (dharma) and spiritual enlightenment... The available clip played in the court shows the Minister has likened these sacred religious symbols with sexual positions,' the order read. Justice Venkatesh also said: 'Prime facie, it is evident that the video demeaned the moral worth of sex workers, particularly women and was calculated to subvert the harmony and peace of religious groups and various sects. Apart from being obscene, the speech also undoubtedly wounds the religious feelings of Vaishnavites and Saivites and is aimed at insulting the Hindu religion and religious feelings of these religious groups.' Further, observing that the Minister had prima facie appeared to have delivered a hate speech, the judge said, it would attract Sections 79, 196(1)(b), 296(a), 299 and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) of 2023. He also highlighted the Supreme Court to have come down heavily upon those who deliver hate speeches and said, the top court had also directed the police to act against such individuals. by registering criminal cases. Bathinda police arrest two ‘nihangs' for social media influencer's murder
Two nihangs were arrested on Friday for the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, 30, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her car parked outside Adesh University at Bhucho Kalan along the Bathinda-Chandigarh highway on Wednesday. Bathinda senior superintendent of police Amneet Kondal said Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh were arrested for the murder, while a search was on for the third accused, Amritpal Singh Mehron, a self-styled Sikh radical leader, who is absconding. 'Kanchan was strangulated to death,' the SSP said, terming the crime an outcome of 'unauthorised moral policing'. During preliminary probe, the arrested accused said they killed Kanchan for uploading immoral content 'that hurt the community's sentiments'. Mehron had approached Kanchan last week on the pretext of a business meeting, inviting her to Bathinda to attend a paid promotion event, the SSP said. She left her house in Ludhiana at 3.30pm on June 9 with Jaspreet and Nimratjit and a few hours later she was strangulated with a waistband in her car. The accused were not in nihang attire when they committed the crime, the police said. Kanchan, who had 2.36 lakh followers on YouTube, 3.84 lakh on Instagram and 1.74 lakh on Facebook, had received threats for posting explicit content on social media. In October last year, terrorist Arsh Dalla had also reportedly threatened her with dire consequences if she did not stop posting inappropriate videos. The arrests were made after a radical Sikh group claimed responsibility for the murder on social media hours after Kanchan's decomposed body was recovered from the car. A video has surfaced on social media in which Mehron is seen justifying the crime, saying Kanchan was killed by two of his accomplices. He said she belonged to a non-Sikh family but used a Sikh name for creating 'immoral digital content'. He went on to add that his accomplices would target people engaged in objectionable content creation. Police got a lead in the case when a CCTV video surfaced where an unidentified person wearing a turban was spotted driving into Adesh hospital parking lot at 5.30am on June 10. A resident of Lachman Colony in Ludhiana, Kanchan had left home, saying she was going to Bathinda for a promotional event but subsequently lost contact with her family. Local residents in the Bhucho suburb informed police about stench emanating from the car on June 11. Police rushed to the spot and found the woman dead on the rear seat of the car and she was later identified as Kanchan. A murder case was registered on the complaint of her mother, Girja Devi, at Bathinda's cantonment police station. Kanchan's last rites were performed in Bathinda on Thursday evening.
