The 2025 ESPY Awards are all set to take place in a few weeks from now and the organisers have roped in actor-comedian Shane Gillis as the host. In a statement, Gillis said he is excited to be a part of the ESPYS this year. 'I like sports so this should be a good time,' he added. Gillis will be the first non-athlete to have signed on to host the event since 2021, when actor Anthony Mackie did the honour.
The creator and star of the popular Netflix show Tires has been dubbed an avid sports fan. ESPN vice president and ESPYS executive producer Craig Lazarus said Gillis is not only counted among the top comedians in today's time, but is also a 'huge sports fan,' making him an 'easy choice' to host the event.
Gillis co-hosts Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast with fellow comedian Matt McCusker and has even appeared in a Super Bowl ad alongside Peyton Manning and Post Malone.
He was earlier recruited by the Army and is a former walk-on at Elon University. Besides this, Gillis is an avid fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish team in college football.
Earlier, Shane Gillis appeared as the celebrity guest picker on 'College GameDay' ahead of the College Football Playoff first-round game between Notre Dame and Indiana in December last year.
During his appearance, he took a slight dig at show analyst Nick Saban, who is the former coach of Alabama. Gillis said the Fighting Irish had a chance at winning since athletes could be paid. 2025 ESPY Awards: Schedule
The awards show will take place at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles from 8 PM ET on Wednesday, July 16. It will be aired live on ABC, while fans can live stream it on ESPN+.
Gillis will host the 33rd ESPY Awards. In the past, the award show has been hosted by Serena Williams, Stephen Curry, John Cena, Drake, Justin Timberlake, Jamie Foxx, Samuel L Jackson, and Anthony Mackie, among others. FAQs: 1. Will Shane Gillis host the ESPY Awards for the first time?

‘Thunderbolts' OTT release date OUT — When and where to stream Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan film

Marvel fans have a new reason to celebrate as 'Thunderbolts', the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is finally heading to OTT platforms. The film, which was later on changed to 'The New Avengers' in select marketing circles, will be available for digital purchase and rental beginning July 1 on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home, according to USA Today. The release comes almost two months after the film's theatrical debut on May 2, and continues Marvel Studios' recent trend of diving into grittier narratives and complex character arcs. This marks a notable pivot from the traditional superhero formula, offering fans a darker, emotionally layered team-up story. 'Thunderbolts' brought together a lineup of lesser-explored but fan-favourite characters from across the MCU in a high-stakes, morally grey storyline. According to the official synopsis, 'the film follows a group of anti-heroes who find themselves caught in a perilous mission orchestrated by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The team must navigate treacherous personal histories while attempting to survive a deadly trap and determine whether redemption or ruin lies ahead.' The cast features Sebastian Stan reprising his role as Bucky Barnes, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Lewis Pullman as the formidable Sentry. The film also stars Olga Kurylenko, Wendell Pierce, and Chris Bauer in significant supporting roles. Directed by Jake Schreier (Paper Towns, Robot & Frank) and written by Eric Pearson (Black Widow), 'Thunderbolts' represents a tonal shift for Marvel — blending emotional drama with psychological tension and morally ambiguous missions. While reactions to the theatrical release were mixed, with praise for performances and criticism of pacing, the OTT debut gives viewers another chance to engage with the film and reassess its place in the evolving MCU landscape. Even though the film was the eighth-highest-grossing film of 2025, it severely underperformed at the box-office, earning $381 million against a production budget of $180 million. The film was later on rebranded as 'The New Avengers', signaling that the asterisk at the end of the film's initial name was hinting at the change all along.

SafeSport annual report outlines progress in wide-ranging changes that went into play last year

DENVER (AP) — The U.S. Center for SafeSport's annual report updates progress on changes it has made in several areas, including its handling of complaints involving minors and the way it categorizes a wide-ranging set of outcomes called 'administrative closures' that sometimes create more questions than answers. HT Image The report, released Monday, comes as the center searches for a new leader in the wake of the firing of CEO Ju'Riese Colon, whose tenure was marred by the hiring and dismissal of an investigator who was later arrested for sex crimes allegedly committed before he worked at SafeSport. Part of the reset for the center also includes an increased push for community engagement. The center held seven outreach meetings in June involving sports leaders, athletes and abuse survivors. 'Robust engagement with stakeholders and a deep commitment to continuous evolution are fundamental to the Center's work to advance athlete safety,' said April Holmes, the center's interim CEO. 'Shifting sport culture is about more than catalyzing change, it's about building a community that makes change inevitable.' The center brought in around $25 million last year, most of which is funded by American sports organizations that fall under the umbrella of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee. It opened in 2017 to become the clearinghouse for abuse cases involving Olympic sports in the United States. It has been beset with complaints about reports that can take years to conclude and an opaque resolution process that could leave both accusers and accused frustrated. In April 2024, the center responded to those complaints by instituting changes in the way it dealt with cases. 'The process improvements and Code revisions strengthen the Center's ability to more efficiently adjudicate cases fairly, consistently, and with trauma sensitivity,' the report read. SafeSport's handling of reports involving minors, some of whom saw their high school careers plunge into uncertainty while under temporary measures for allegations that might never be proven, now includes an 'alternative track.' Part of that introduces an interactive course that can be offered instead of sanctions for what the center deems to be 'low-level' violations. The center is also offering more information about administrative closures — cases that critics complained ended up in a 'black box' from which no details could be found and, thus, could prevent sports organizations from taking steps of their own to curtail abusers. Now, those cases have been divided into two categories — 'closures' and 'holds' — and those have subsections that explain the reason for the action. There are, for instance, holds for cases where a claimant didn't participate in the case, and closures where respondents are issued a 'letter of admonishment' or where no policy existed at the time of the alleged offense to pursue the case. The report also offered an update on numbers that reflect the fast-growing nature of the 8-year-old organization. It received an average of 155 reports a week in 2024, which marked a 2780% increase over 2017, when it opened. As of the end of last year, it had placed 2,224 people in its Centralized Disciplinary Database. The center had delivered nearly 7.5 million online training courses by the end of last year. Also in 2024, it debuted a mobile app that provided access to training and reporting guidance, as well as the disciplinary database. ___ AP Summer Olympics:

‘Worst RB room in the league': Colin Cowherd rips Dallas Cowboys for passing on Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry

Photo by Amy E. Price/Getty Images Saquon Barkley just finished a storybook season that ended with a Super Bowl ring in Philadelphia, but when free agency opened before the 2024 season, two NFC East rivals didn't even bother to pick up the phone. Barkley revealed this week that neither the Dallas Cowboys nor the Washington Commanders even reached out. That omission ignited fresh criticism from Fox Sports' Colin Cowherd, a longtime sports talk host known for blunt commentary. On The Herd Monday, Cowherd delivered a scathing assessment of the Cowboys' roster strategy, mocking their failure to call Barkley or Derrick Henry as proof the franchise is more interested in selling the brand than winning games. NFL free agency exposes Dallas Cowboys' roster-building flaws as they pass on Pro Bowl running backs Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry Speaking candidly about his free-agency process, Barkley admitted he was open to conversations that never happened. Instead, he signed with the Eagles ahead of 2024—a move that turned out perfectly for Philadelphia as Barkley helped power their offense all the way to a Super Bowl championship. Meanwhile, the Cowboys, who had let Tony Pollard walk in free agency, entered 2024 with arguably the league's weakest running back room, relying on unproven backs and patchwork committee options that failed to scare defenses. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo That decision drew the ire of Cowherd, who ripped Dallas for failing even to inquire about two Pro Bowl backs. "The Cowboys had the worst running back room in the league and they didn't make a phone call on Derrick Henry or Saquon Barkley," Cowherd said on Fox Sports. He didn't stop there, comparing the Cowboys to an overpriced luxury car that's always in the shop. "I've never owned a Maserati but the Cowboys and Maseratis are that luxury brand that feel like they spend way too much in the shop," he quipped. Cowherd argued that Dallas's reputation as 'America's Team' has blinded fans and ownership to reality. 'I think Dallas is a bottom quarter, bottom fifth NFL franchise but because they've been such a luxury brand it's hard to wrap your brain around that. Like, you think about the Cowboys and you think winning.' Is the Dallas Cowboys' brand image getting in the way of NFL success? For all the hype surrounding their iconic star logo, the Cowboys haven't delivered consistent championship success in nearly three decades. Yet they remain TV ratings gold, an endless topic for sports debate shows—no matter what the standings say. Cowherd's blistering Monday critique on The Herd shines a spotlight on that contradiction. Even as Dallas ignores potential difference-makers like Barkley and Henry, they dominate headlines. But the question lingers: will the Cowboys ever focus less on the brand and more on actually winning? Or will they keep selling the sizzle while the on-field results continue to disappoint?
