Tszyu vs Fundora 2: Card rocked by world title medical emergency as Tszyu eyes history

The Australian28-07-2025
Sixteen years after watching Manny Pacquiao fight Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand, Tim Tszyu is primed to become a two-time world champion at the very same venue in the co-main event to the Filipino legend.
Tszyu hit the scales in phenomenal shape at 153.2 pounds for his WBC world title rematch with Sebastian Fundora (152.6 pounds), but the card was thrown into turmoil by the late withdrawal of Mexican star Angel Fierro.
Fierro fell ill during his weight cut and was hospitalised just hours before he was due to weigh in for his highly anticipated rematch with Isaac Cruz.
One of Mexico's biggest boxing stars, 'Pitbull' Cruz will now face Omar Salcido, who was scheduled to appear on the undercard.

Meanwhile, Tszyu received one of the biggest cheers of the day when he stepped on the scales and motioned to his stomach, indicating a belt being strapped around his waist.
'WBC, the belt and I was just trying to vibe with the crowd,' Tszyu said just moments after he weighed in in front of a raucous crowd packed with Aussie, Filipino and Mexican boxing fans.
'It's pretty unreal to have that crowd and feel that energy.
'I understand why Manny comes back and does this over and over again. When you've got this every fight, it's hard just to kick back at home.

'I was sitting over there, just where the walk out is (when Pacquiao fought Cotto). That was a sick experience, now to be participating in it, it's unreal.'
Tszyu was wearing a brand new necklace with the image of his beloved bulldog, Pablo, who recently needed surgery on a brain infection.
'He's the warrior,' he told Code Sports, while showing off the bling. 'The warrior.'
Meanwhile, Pacquiao performed some mind games with Barrios, making the WBC welterweight champion wait four-and-a-half minutes on stage before showing up.

Denise Richards' daughter says she ‘almost got sex trafficked'

Denise Richards' eldest daughter Sami Sheen claims she 'almost got sex-trafficked' while hanging out with friends amid her mother's ongoing marital troubles. Sami took to TikTok to describe an incident that happened on Monday this week, Page Six reported. 'We were at this restaurant pretty late. We didn't leave until midnight and we were outside taking photos in the parking lot, we were there for five minutes,' she said in the clip. 'Out of nowhere, this man came up to us asking for money. 'I said, 'Sorry I don't have any cash on me'.' Despite her insistence she didn't have any cash to give him, she claims the suspicious man became 'persistent'. 'I'm like, 'Sorry, no' and he goes, 'OK have a good night,'' the OnlyFans star, 21, continued, adding that another man approached her and her friend as soon as she exited the first conversation. 'The second I saw this man I had the worst feeling in my stomach — like, get the f**k away from me right now,' she recalled. She said the man asked if she could speak Spanish among a series of other questions, but Sheen 'couldn't understand what he was saying'. 'Then he starts to reach into his back pocket and I reach into my purse and pull out my pepper spray, and I open that b***h, and he saw that, and he started to pull a card out,' Sheen said. At which point, Sheen and her friend 'immediately' ran from the scene and locked themselves in her car. The girls made it out safe, but Sheen said the ordeal left her feeling uneasy. As the friends 'debriefed' the situation on the ride home, she came to the conclusion that she felt the two men were 'working together'. After she looked through the photos, she realised 'the man was watching us the whole time, he was just staring at us'. She went on to include a photo of the man in question before she cautioned her followers to be 'even more aware' of their surroundings and to 'trust your gut' when they go out. 'I'm usually very aware of my surroundings and I didn't notice this man,' she added. 'Even if it was harmless, it's better to be safe than sorry even though I don't think he had good intentions at all.' Sheen's scary story time arrived around the same time Richards was spotted sporting an apparent black eye — days after her recent interaction with her estranged husband Aaron Phypers. Phypers, 52, filed for divorce from the Wild Things star on July 7 following an explosive Fourth of July argument. The former couple have been embroiled in a nasty public back-and-forth since. Richards, 54, was granted a temporary restraining order against her soon-to-be ex after she accused him of being physically abusive toward her. Phypers has denied Richards' allegations of abuse and has since accused her of having an addiction to Vicodin and alcohol. He also publicly accused her of having an affair with her Special Forces: World's Toughest Test co-star Rudy Reyes.

South Park goes after Donald Trump again, as well as top ally Kristi Noem, in the second episode of its new season

The comedy show South Park has doubled down on its quite ruthless mockery of Donald Trump and his second presidential administration. The long-running program, known for both its vulgarity and a willingness to skewer pretty much anyone, began its newest season with a wildly provocative episode last month. Mr Trump was portrayed as an echo of the show's Saddam Hussein character, with a high-pitched voice, thin skin, tiny genitalia, and a tendency to threaten lawsuits against anyone who noticed said smallness. Oh, and he was dating Satan, who in South Park's universe is actually quite a nice guy, with the unfortunate habit of falling for toxic boyfriends. This all sounds mad if you have never seen the show, I'm aware. It's probably still mad if you have seen it. But having just signed a new deal with Paramount, worth well over a billion dollars, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone appear to be cutting even looser than usual. Today's second episode shifted its focus to two targets: Mr Trump's crackdown on immigrants, and the increasing influence of right-wing media grifters like Charlie Kirk, who was singled out for particular scorn. Mr Kirk is a co-founder of Turning Point USA, an organisation which seeks to spread conservative views among young people. He's also a podcaster. And like a great many podcasters, he is the sort of obnoxious human being South Park delights in mocking. The episode showed one of the students of South Park Elementary School, Clyde Donovan, cashing in on modern outrage culture as a 'master debater'. I presume I don't need to explain the pun there. And it showed the school's beloved resident psychopath, Eric Cartman, raging at Clyde for stealing his 'shtick'. One scene, as an example: Clyde sets up a booth at school and broadcasts an event called 'Watch as Clyde Donovan totally destroys these woke liberal students'. 'Looks like a lot of whiny babies have a problem with what I say, so ... prove me wrong,' the child says. 'You said nothing good ever came of the Jews, but if that's true, why are the bagels so yummy?' another character, the perpetually innocent Butters, asks him. 'Well you've obviously been taught by the Jews to have a problem with this school and with America, so let me ask you this: what is your definition of a woman?' Clyde shoots back. Cartman eventually usurps the scene. That's the B-plot. The A-plot involves school counsellor Mr Mackey losing his job, and in his desperation to pay his bills, taking a new one with America's immigration enforcement agency, ICE. He's immediately assigned to raid a Dora the Explorer concert under the leadership of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, whose face keeps drooping and falling off in a rather cruel dig at her volume of plastic surgery. She also keeps shooting dogs, perceiving them as threats – maybe doming half a dozen throughout the episode – in a reference to the time the real Ms Noem shot her family's dog in a gravel pit after she grew tired of its behaviour. Mr Mackey is also involved in a subsequent raid on heaven, where the ICE agents explicitly target 'brown' angels. Ms Noem is so impressed by Mr Mackey's performance that she commends him to Mr Trump, who invites him to his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago. The President and Vice President J.D. Vance are portrayed as parodies of characters from the television series Fantasy Island, wearing white suits. I know nothing of that series, and cannot offer any pithy remarks as a result. I would offer you an image from the moment when Mr Vance, who is miniature sized, offers to ... ahem ... prepare Satan for sex with Mr Trump. But the President's little cartoon genitals are out at that point. So never mind. Anyway, Mr Mackey gets freaked out and starts opening random rooms in Mar-a-Lago. In one, he finds an old man being massaged by young-looking girls – a reference to the Jeffrey Epstein case that probably obliges me to say that there's no evidence Mr Trump was ever aware of, let alone involved in, Epstein's crimes. A second room shows the recently detained Dora the Explorer doing a massage. And a third reveals Clyde, who has been rewarded for his 'master debating' but feels rather bad about it. He and Mr Mackey share a moment of mutual empathy. Perhaps not an obviously outrageous ending, on par with the first episode's. But enough to build anticipation for the next one, you daresay.

Melbourne Cup plans grow for US stayer Parchment Party

Melbourne Cup-qualified American stayer Parchment Party has boosted potential Flemington claims with a second stakes win in New York. The Pin Oak Stud-owned four-year-old son of Constitution, trained by Bill Mott, on Thursday (AEST) won the Listed Birdstone Stakes (2800m) at Saratoga. Parchment Party won a Melbourne Cup golden ticket in June with a victory in the Group 3 Belmont Gold Cup Invitational (2800m). Owner Dana Bernhard, of Pin Oak Stud, told the Saratoga Live broadcast 'it's our plan' when asked about possible Melbourne spring carnival participation. Pin Oak Stud-owned World Beater, trained by Mott's son Riley, coincidently won the Cox Plate -qualifying Group 1 Saratoga Derby Invitational last week. The interest in two horses qualified for Australia's biggest races could sweeten the cost and logistics to travel from the US to Melbourne via quarantine at Newmarket, UK. 'We're leaning in that (Melbourne) direction,' Bill Mott told Saratoga Live. 'We're trying to make all the early plans that we need to make.' Parchment Party could become the first US-trained horse to start in the Melbourne Cup. Five US-bred horses have won a Melbourne Cup with French-trained Australian-owned Americain the most recent in 2010. That's back-to-back stakes wins for PARCHMENT PARTY as he wins the Birdstone Stakes under @ljlmvel for trainer Bill Mott. — NYRA (🎰) (@TheNYRA) August 6, 2025 Victoria Racing Club chief racing officer Leigh Jordon welcomed Parchment Party's progress. 'It was great to see Parchment Party win the Birdstone Stakes and the excitement from the ownership group following the race,' Jordon said. 'They are currently looking at travel options for the horse and the prospect of Parchment Party becoming the first American-trained horse to run in the Lexus Melbourne Cup has created an incredible buzz. 'We're proud to have strengthened our relationship with the New York Racing Association by making the Belmont Gold Cup a golden ticket into the Lexus Melbourne Cup. It is part of the (VRC's) ongoing commitment to growing the international reach of the race and build meaningful relationships across the world.'
