Mooney went down during Atlanta's first camp practice and did not return.
According to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney is set to miss a few weeks due to a shoulder injury. Mooney went down during the team's first training camp practice on Thursday and did not return.
The former Bears wideout had a stellar 2024 season in Atlanta, recording 992 receiving yards as the team's No. 2 option to Drake London. We'll have to wait and see if Mooney is given an injury designation by head coach Raheem Morris before Saturday's practice.
The team is also expected to sign veteran DJ Chark Jr., according to a report from NFL Network. Chark could take Mooney's place for as long as he's out. The 28-year-old last played for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024.
In 2019, Chark topped 1,000 receiving yards for the Jaguars, leading to his first and only Pro Bowl appearance. He should be an adequate replacement for the time being.

Braves trade for Cardinals P Erick Fedde to address decimated pitching staff ahead of deadline

A 44-60 start hasn't swayed the Atlanta Braves from buying ahead of MLB's trade deadline. The Braves announced on Sunday that they've acquired right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. The move addresses pitching depth for a starting rotation that's been decimated by injury. At the time of Sunday's trade, Chris Sale (rib fracture), Reynaldo López (shoulder inflammation), Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow fracture), Grant Holmes (elbow inflammation) and AJ Smith-Shawver (UCL tear) were all on the 60-day injured list. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Smith-Shawver underwent Tommy John surgery, and his season is over. The Braves moved Holmes to the 60-day IL to make room on the roster for Fedde. Fedde, 32, is in his eighth MLB season. He's started 20 games for the Cardinals in 2025 with a 5.22 ERA and 1.505 WHIP. He's not a high-end starter, but he is a starting pitcher, which the Braves are in desperate need of with the bulk of their rotation facing long-term injuries. The Braves entered Sunday in fourth place in the NL East, 16.5 games behind the first-place New York Mets. They were 12 games behind the San Diego Padres for the final wild-card berth in the National League. Their playoff hopes are grim. But the Braves need to field pitchers for the remainder of the season, and the acquisition of Fedde addresses that need.

Braves acquire Erick Fedde from Cardinals to reinforce pitching staff

ATLANTA – With the Atlanta Braves' entire Opening Day starting rotation currently on the injured list, they traded for Erick Fedde from the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday to likely fill one of the vacancies for the rest of the season. The Braves didn't give up anything in the trade for the veteran right-hander, and the Cardinals are sending cash to help cover part of the approximate $2.5 million remaining on his contract. The Cardinals had designated him for assignment last week. The #Braves today acquired RHP Erick Fedde and cash considerations from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, Atlanta transferred RHP Grant Holmes to the 60-day injured list. — Atlanta Braves (@Braves) July 27, 2025 Fedde, 32, is 3-10 with a 5.22 ERA in 20 starts, with just 63 strikeouts and 47 walks, along with 14 homers allowed, in 101 2/3 innings. He's been particularly ineffective in recent starts, going 0-4 with an alarming 13.25 ERA in his last five starts before the DFA. Atlanta placed Grant Holmes on the 15-day IL after he felt tightness in his elbow during Saturday's start, then transferred him to the 60-day IL Sunday, meaning his season is over and he'll consult with doctors about findings from initial tests. Advertisement The Braves already had all other members of their season-opening rotation on the 60-day IL: Chris Sale (rib cage fracture), Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow), Reynaldo López (shoulder surgery) and A.J. Smith-Shawver (Tommy John surgery). Sale could pitch again this season, but Smith-Shawver will not and it's uncertain whether Schwellenbach or López will. Provided Atlanta can help reduce the amount of hard contact, Fedde is built to provide rotation depth. The Cardinals originally acquired Fedde from the Chicago White Sox in eight-player deal that also saw Tommy Edman and Michael Kopech join the Los Angeles Dodgers during last year's deadline.
