Teen arrested in fatal downtown Vancouver stabbing of 15-year-old boy
Vancouver police say in a release that the suspect was arrested late Monday after surrendering to a patrol officer.
Police say the suspect is a Surrey, B.C., resident and remains in custody, but charges have not been laid in the case and no further information on the arrested person was provided.
The arrest comes after the boy was stabbed to death at around 11:40 p.m. Saturday just as tens of thousands of people were in the city for the Celebration of Light fireworks display.
Police have said the stabbing is being investigated as a murder, and the victim was also from Surrey.
Sgt. Steve Addison said previously that investigators believed there was a violent altercation near the Vancouver Law Courts at Smithe and Hornby streets, and a passerby found the injured boy who died in hospital early Sunday.

VICTORIA – The head of the Canada's police chiefs association says they are guided by 'outdated and inadequate' laws that were never designed to take on the current criminal landscape that no longer respects international borders. Man charged with assault after attack on Jewish father in Montreal caught on video
MONTREAL – Montreal police say a 23-year-old man has been charged in the assault of a Jewish father at a park last week. Sergio Yanes Preciado was charged with assault causing bodily harm, and appeared briefly before a judge from a detention centre in Montreal's north end. The Crown has objected to his release, and he is scheduled to return to court Wednesday for a bail hearing.
