Watch: Out or Not Out? No snicko to confirm; Lhuan-dre Pretorius makes it count with record-breaking knock

Time of Indiaa day ago

Lhuan-dre Pretorius scored a record-breaking ton for the Proteas vs Zimbabwe (Image via ET)
Lhuan-dre Pretorius made history on Saturday as he became the youngest South African to score a Test century, reaching the milestone at just 19 years and 93 days, surpassing Graeme Pollock's long-standing record from 1964.
But his stunning debut knock of 153 against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo wasn't without drama. With South Africa struggling at 24/3 and under serious pressure, Pretorius walked in and was soon at the centre of a key moment. Zimbabwe's fielders went up in a loud appeal for a caught-behind. The umpire ruled him not out, and with no Snickometer technology available, the decision stood.
Commentators noted,
'
There's no Snicko, so if there is contact, Pretorius has survived
.'
One Zimbabwe player even walked up to Pretorius, suggesting he should have walked, adding fuel to the moment. Several Zimbabwe players were also heard telling the batter to 'walk back' after the incident.
Instead of letting the pressure affect him, Pretorius stayed calm. He built a match-turning 95-run partnership with Dewald Brevis, who smashed a 41-ball fifty of his own. The pair led South Africa's recovery after a shaky start.
Pretorius went on to score 153, an innings full of maturity, footwork, and clean stroke play. He struck 11 fours and 4 sixes, anchoring the Proteas innings and putting his name in the record books.
Poll
Is Lhuan-dre Pretorius the next big star in South African cricket?
Definitely
Not really
From a tense appeal to a historic century, Pretorius' debut had it all. Without 'Snicko' to settle the debate, all that remains is the scoreboard—and a place in South African cricket history.

Patriots stuck with $28 million in coaching contracts, forced to give Mike Vrabel a no-fire year

Mike Vrabel's Patriots free season (Image via X) Mike Vrabel may be coaching the worst team in the AFC, but his job is the safest — and it's all thanks to dead money. After firing Bill Belichick and Jerod Mayo in back-to-back years, the New England Patriots are now stuck paying nearly $28 million to past coaches. In 2025, firing Vrabel would mean adding a third massive paycheck — and Robert Kraft has had enough. Kraft's coaching bill: $28 million and counting It started with Belichick's exit after the 2023 season. The legendary coach still had $25 million left on his deal. Then came Jerod Mayo, hired in 2024 and fired after one season. His contract? At least $3.5 million annually — a decision that proved as costly as it was brief. — NFL (@NFL) On the Locked On Patriots podcast, analyst Nick Cattles dropped a blunt truth bomb: 'If you look at Mike Vrabel realistically in 2025, this is, for all intents and purposes, a free season.' He doubled down on the financial logic, adding: 'There's no way on God's green earth that Kraft is going to fire another head coach.' Vrabel can go 2–15 and still keep his job But Cattles also made one thing clear — Vrabel won't treat it like a pass: 'I don't think Vrabel's going to coach it like it's a free season,' he said. 'He has pride in what he does. He wants to run a program that wins football games.' And that pride matters, especially in Foxborough. Vrabel has already warned players to expect major changes in 2025. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Honda SP160: Now with More Power and Style Honda Learn More Undo The former linebacker, who won three Super Bowls with the Patriots, brings not only familiarity but also credibility. He logged 54 wins with the Titans, made a 2019 AFC Championship appearance, and earned a league-wide rep for building a disciplined culture. Still, the real reason Vrabel is secure in New England has nothing to do with his resume. 'He had to pay Belichick last year for not being here. He's got to pay Mayo's contract. And Vrabel's reportedly being paid like a top coach.' Firing Vrabel now? That would mean footing the bill for three full head coaching salaries. No matter the 2025 record — even 2–15 — Mike Vrabel's job is locked in. In New England, job security isn't earned on the field anymore. It's written on the checks. IND vs ENG: 'Jasprit Bumrah is available but ...,' says Team India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate ahead of 2nd Test

Jasprit Bumrah (Photo by) in Birmingham: As India trail 0-1 in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy following a disappointing loss at Headingley, all eyes are on the team's spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah . The premier fast bowler is available for selection ahead of the second Test, but whether he takes the field remains uncertain. 'Jasprit Bumrah is available but we haven't made a call yet whether he will play this game or not,' India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate told reporters on Monday. Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar Reddy could be in line for his debut. The young batting all-rounder has impressed in training and is 'very close to getting a game,' according to ten Doeschate. His inclusion could provide balance to the side, especially if Bumrah is rested. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "Jasprit Bumrah is ready to play, we will take that call at the last moment. Nitish Kumar Reddy is very close to getting a game. He is our premium batting all-rounder," the Dutchman added. The uncertainty around Bumrah isn't a question of fitness but one of long-term planning. Head coach Gautam Gambhir had earlier confirmed that Bumrah would feature in only three of the five Tests in the series as part of a pre-decided workload management plan. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? India's bowling attack lacked bite in Leeds, and with the series heating up, there is growing pressure to field the strongest XI. Yet, team management seems firm on playing the long game, prioritising Bumrah's durability over short-term gains. As the second Test looms, India face a crucial decision — go all-in with Bumrah to level the series, or stick to the plan and back their depth. Either way, the management's commitment to strategic rotation signals a shift in India's approach: eyes not just on this series, but on sustaining success across formats. "He's just the ultimate football player": Arch Manning impressed with NFL star Josh Allen, calling him one of his 'must-watches'

Arch Manning (via Getty Images) Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning is not only generating buzz with his on-field play, but also with how he prepares off of it. Talking at the iconic Manning Passing Academy last weekend, the 2026 NFL Draft prospect unveiled he's been studying film from among the league's elite. At the top of that list? Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Texas QB Arch Manning names Josh Allen his top inspiration at the Manning Passing Academy The NFL MVP has another fan, and this time it comes in the form of someone whose last name holds major football clout. "He's just the ultimate football player," Arch Manning said about Josh Allen. "If something's not there, he's going to make something happen and do whatever he can to make his team win." Josh Allen's journey wasn't typical—throwing 49% in college and being taken as the third QB in the 2018 draft—but his ascent to MVP status provides a roadmap for growth and resilience. And Arch Manning is paying attention. Arch Manning says he's studying Josh Allen, Joe Burrow to improve his own game "I'm watching a lot of Josh Allen and Joe Burrow right now. Those are my guys," Arch Manning added. "They're dogs. I've watched some of their college film. They're just good players, elite competitors, and fun to watch." Though Burrow was also complimented, it was evident that Allen left a lasting impression on the 20-year-old sensation. Arch Manning is more than just any quarterback prospect—he's the fourth generation of an NFL dynasty. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The all new SP125 that comes with advance technology & features Honda Learn More Undo In the footsteps of his grandfather Archie (1971 No. 2 pick) and uncles Peyton (1998 No. 1) and Eli Manning (2004 No. 1), Arch is about to put his stamp on the game. However, it's players such as Allen—rather than family connection—who are assisting in developing his style. This newfound respect is ringing true with fans on both coasts: Bills Mafia, ever more passionate when Allen receives his due, and Longhorn Nation, hungry to see their phenom take on a warrior's mindset as he heads into the 2025 college season. With Allen in his prime and Manning on the threshold of his own NFL career, the cross-generational dynamic is strong. Manning's admiration says something significant about Allen's impact, not merely as a stat-gathering quarterback, but as a leader who commands future stars.
