What does the winter solstice mean for your star sign? Aussies are set for a season of 'tug-of-war' - from financial woes and romance to family feuds

Daily Maila day ago

An astrologer has revealed what the coming month has in store for your star sign amid the winter solstice as the shortest, darkest days of the year arrives in Australia.
Rose Smith, a leading spiritual advisor and founder of psychic network Absolute Soul Secrets, said Wednesday's Full Moon (June 11) could spark a powerful surge of adventure, emotional release and personal clarity - but not without a call to slow down and look inward.
'June's Full Moon is about expansion, movement and adventure - it's that "live life large" feeling,' Ms Smith told FEMAIL.
'But with the Winter Solstice approaching, we're also being asked to slow down, rest and reflect. It's a real tug-of-war between external excitement and internal nurturing.'
In astrology, Sagittarius is known as the zodiac's explorer, governing travel, higher learning, spirituality, and big-picture thinking. So if you suddenly feel like booking a spontaneous holiday, starting a new course, or finally chasing that long-held dream, you're not alone.
'People could feel an urge to take risks, explore deeper meaning, or act on a vision they've been sitting on for ages. Full Moons are always emotional, and with Sagittarius involved, it's like emotional fireworks,' Ms Smith said.
'You might be craving wide open spaces or the buzz of a crowd - or both. Sagittarius doesn't do anything by halves.'
The influence of Jupiter, Sagittarius's ruling planet, adds fuel to the fire. Known in astrology as a symbol of luck, wisdom and expansion, Jupiter's energy is believed to amplify whatever it touches.
'Jupiter is like a cosmic guardian - even scientists say it protects Earth by pulling in space debris. So, this Full Moon could feel quite fortunate. You might find yourself drawn to unconventional experiences or different cultures, or diving into spiritual study,' Ms Smith said.
And while in the northern hemisphere this is called the Strawberry Moon, named by Native American tribes to mark the strawberry harvest, its meaning runs deeper.
'Spiritually, it symbolises sweetness, abundance, and celebrating the fruits of your labour.'
But there's another cosmic shift worth noting - Jupiter has just moved into Cancer, where it'll stay until mid-2026. This brings a more emotional, home-oriented influence, which may guide people toward more personal or family-based growth.
'Some of the adventure or wisdom people are chasing could actually be found closer to home. Cancer is all about nurturing, family and emotional security. So we might start to find joy in smaller moments - like cooking, connecting with loved ones, or creating cosiness in our homes.'
The catch? Sagittarius energy wants to sprint while Cancer and the Winter Solstice ask us to slow down.
'Winter Solstice is the darkest and shortest day of the year. It's nature's reminder to rest, eat warm food like soups and stews, and catch up on sleep. But Sagittarius wants us to go, go, go - so you could feel a bit conflicted.'
Ms Smith's advice is to feed your mind, but care for your body.
'Watch travel documentaries, have deep conversations, or plan your next big move - but also allow space for rest and reflection.'
People with Mutable signs (Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo, and Pisces) may feel this Full Moon most intensely, while Earth signs like Taurus and Capricorn may find comfort in slowing down and grounding themselves.
'There's a need to work with the seasons, not against them. Let the Sagittarius energy expand your mind, but listen to Cancer's wisdom too. Find joy in stillness, laughter in the quiet - and remember, even in the darkest season, the light is returning,' she said.
Aries (March 21 to April 19)
Your mind is abuzz with new ideas relating to how you can expand your horizons. Perhaps it's through education, spirituality or maybe even a trip (more likely long-distance). You're bound to be drawn to the exotic or unconventional, believing that 'variety is the spice of life'. However, you may also experience being in two minds as there's a distinct pull to the security and stability that you already know. This push-pull effect is likely to leave you feeling somewhat restless, especially with the hum drum of daily communications, ideas and the familiarity of the people around you. Try to be patient now but do add more variety and excitement to your life. Perhaps you can plan a trip for the future, or maybe a short break sooner rather than later.
Taurus (April 20 to May 20)
You're being called to look deep into your values and personal finances, especially around shared money or resources. Old fears or hidden tensions about trust and control might surface, pushing you to confront what's really going on beneath the surface. This could challenge how secure you feel about your financial stability and what you truly value. Emotional intensity is high, and you may need to face uncomfortable truths about money, partnerships, or commitments. It's a time to be honest and courageous, even if that means rethinking long-held beliefs about security. Transformation is the theme – not quick fixes – so trust the process and let go of what no longer serves you.
Gemini (May 21 to June 20)
This Full Moon stirs up some honest conversations in your close relationships. You might feel torn between wanting your own space and needing to keep peace with others. It's a time when hidden tensions could bubble up, especially if you've been avoiding difficult talks. You could be surprised by blunt truths about a partner, friend, or business connection that shake up your sense of security. Try to communicate clearly and calmly, saying what you need without blame, while really listening to the other side. It's about understanding, not winning. Make space for your own needs but stay open to theirs. This is about resetting expectations, so your relationships feel more authentic and balanced.
Cancer (June 21 to July 22)
You might be feeling stretched thin with a clear call to sort out what truly matters in your daily life. It's time to clear away not just physical clutter but also mental and emotional baggage that's been weighing you down. Your usual routines may feel stale or overwhelming and hidden stress or health issues could come to the surface, demanding your attention. This is a chance to be honest about how you're caring for yourself and where you might be burning energy unnecessarily. Instead of pushing through, get some self-care, even if that means letting others down temporarily. Clearing space inside and out will help you reconnect with your strength and motivation. It might feel uncomfortable, but it's a vital step for your wellbeing and growth.
Leo (July 23 to August 22)
You're feeling the call to have fun with a strong urge to dive into creative projects, romance or playful connections. Get your skates on - it's time to enjoy yourself and express what makes you happy! However, there's also a tug reminding you not to lose sight of responsibilities or important conversations you might be avoiding. Friends and social groups could play a big part in this push-pull. While indulging your passions, keep an eye on what really needs your attention. If something in love or creativity feels stuck, you might need to decide whether to release it or renew your commitment. Trust your gut, but take a breath before jumping in. Being authentic in sharing your joy will naturally attract the right people. Enjoy the ride but don't ignore what's beneath the surface.
Virgo (August 23 to September 22)
There's possible tension between your home life and career demands, as something at home needs your attention. Family issues, living arrangements or old emotional patterns might be bubbling up. Maybe you feel vulnerable or unsettled beneath the surface? You could be feeling the pressure to keep things looking okay outwardly while inside, things feel shaky. This Full Moon invites you to honestly face what's going on with your emotional roots, even if it's uncomfortable. Avoiding it will only make the disconnect worse. Take time to reflect and have those honest chats with loved ones, but don't feel like you have to fix everything right now. Setting clear boundaries and focusing on self-care will help restore balance. Your home and emotional foundation are key to building your overall wellbeing and peace.
Libra (September 23 to October 22)
This Full Moon shines on your local connections and communication, so now it's time to decide between speaking your truth and keeping the peace. Decisions – not one of Libran's favourite pastimes! You might feel like being honest and bold, but there's a real risk of clashes or misunderstandings with siblings, neighbours or close friends. It's a balancing act between freedom of expression and diplomacy. Hidden truths might surface, shifting how you relate to those around you. However, it's also possible you might also feel the urge to get away for a breather or trip. The key now is to listen carefully and communicate thoughtfully. Stand your ground, but don't push others to agree. Being curious and empathetic can turn tense moments into breakthroughs. Patience and grace will get you through tricky conversations and help you come out stronger on the other side.
Scorpio (October 23 to November 21)
A light is shining upon your finances, values and self-worth, bringing up tensions between what you truly value and how you handle money or possessions. You might find yourself rethinking what 'enough' really means, not just in dollars but emotionally too. Maybe you've been holding onto security in ways that aren't serving you anymore or underestimating your own worth. This is a time to take stock honestly. Look at your spending, habits and emotional investments. Balance practical needs with your deeper beliefs and set intentions that align your resources with your true priorities. Your value isn't just what you own or earn. It's inherent and worth protecting fiercely. Now you can clear out what's draining you and build a stronger foundation for your future growth.
Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21)
With the Full Moon in your sign, you're spotlighted like never before. You could be on fire to express your true self, however is there a pull between chasing freedom and meeting others' expectations? You might feel restless, ready to shed old roles or patterns that don't fit anymore. It's your moment to clarify what really matters to you and set firm boundaries around your time and energy. Saying no might be hard, but it's harder to lose your authenticity! Reflect honestly on what excites you versus what drains you, then adjust accordingly. Standing your ground might be uncomfortable, but it's essential for growth. When you balance your bold individuality with practical sense, you open the door to fresh freedom and deeper fulfillment.
Capricorn (December 22nd to January 19)
You could be feeling a strong need to slow down and tune into your inner world, even though your usual drive pushes you to keep going. Hidden emotions or old stresses might surface, making you more sensitive than usual about how you show up in the world. Maybe you need to practice self-compassion and give yourself permission to rest instead of constantly pushing forward? Quiet reflection - whether through journaling, meditation or just sitting with your feelings, can help you process what's been under the surface. Healing won't happen overnight, so be patient and gentle with yourself. If things feel overwhelming, don't hesitate to reach out for support. Balancing your ambition with emotional care now will help you come back stronger and clearer, ready to move forward with renewed energy.
Aquarius (January 20th to February 18)
You might feel torn between what you want personally and what your social circles expect from you. Friendships and group connections could be under the microscope, revealing which relationships truly support your growth and which might be holding you back. It's a time to face some honest truths about where you belong and who deserves space in your life. Setting boundaries is important now - even if it feels uncomfortable! Maybe having some frank conversations can help align your social life with your authentic self? So don't lose sight of your own creative needs while navigating social demands. When you stand firm in who you are, you'll attract the kind of connections that truly lift you up.
Pisces (February 19 to March 20)
You might feel pulled between your career goals and the need for emotional security at home. It's a tough balancing act between striving for success and wanting the comfort and privacy of home. Family issues or past emotional wounds may come up just as work pressures increase, making it hard to focus on one without the other. This is a chance to reflect on how your professional life affects your personal wellbeing and whether your current path truly fits your values. Setting boundaries is key to protect your peace. Let go of outdated expectations - your or others. Consider getting support from trusted friends or mentors. When you honour both your ambitions and your emotional needs, you can create a path that feels healthier and fulfilling.
The Sagittarius Full Moon peaks on Wednesday, June 11 at 5:43pm AEST, while the Winter Solstice arrives ten days later, on Friday, June 21 at 12:41pm AEST.

Justin Hemmes appears in high spirits as he returns to his Sydney mansion while his pregnant partner Madeline Holtznagel hits her due date

Justin Hemmes was spotted looking very proud on Thursday as he arrived home, sparking rumours Madeline Holtznagel has welcomed their first child together. The billionaire pub baron, 52, touched down at his $100 million Vaucluse mansion via sea plane, with his heavily pregnant, long-term girlfriend, 28, nowhere in sight. With her due date imminent, Madeline hasn't been seen since the end of May, and has even manged to stay off social media - further adding to the baby speculation. Justin appeared to be in high spirits as he returned to his Sydney home this week, wearing a crisp white T-shirt and khaki slacks. He was forced to pull his trouser legs up as he waded through the water to get to his lavish house, which sits on the harbour. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. With his reading glasses and Bluetooth headphones in, the House of Merivale heir slicked his tresses back into a bun as he carried a large black bag. Meanwhile, his entourage were all smiles as they waited for the soon-to-be father-of-three to arrive. It comes after Madeline and Justin were spotted returning to the mansion at the end of May, with the model looking just days away from giving birth. Not wanting his heavily pregnant girlfriend to endanger herself and her precious cargo, Justin affectionately piggybacked his ladylove off his sea plane. The couple beamed broadly as Justin dutifully escorted Madeline to the shore, with Madeline wrapping her arms tightly around her beau's shoulders. The new mum recently admitted to Stellar she is thrilled to welcome a son because she wanted a 'new journey' with Justin, who already shares two daughters with ex-partner Kate Fowler. 'I always thought I was going to have a boy. I knew I was going to be a boy mum,' she said. 'Justin has two beautiful little girls, so having a boy, it's like a whole new journey together. [The baby] is going to be his little best mate.' He was forced to pull his trouser legs up as he waded through the water to get to his lavish house, which sits on the harbour She said up until now she kept details of her pregnancy private, but was ready to share her journey. 'I keep a lot of my life private and I don't share a lot online anyway, so [being pregnant] wasn't really something that I was going to share online,' she said. 'I haven't posted about it and it's been nice to have some quiet time off Instagram. 'But obviously because I am in the public eye and we do get photographed quite a lot, I think now I'm at this point in my pregnancy where it's nice for me to be able to share some nice photos'. Madeline also revealed she has sought advice from her older sisters Anna and fellow model Simone, who both have children. In November, an insider confirmed the exciting news of Madeline's pregnancy to Daily Mail Australia and revealed a friend of Justin's recently moved out of his Vaucluse mansion to make room for their growing family. Justin, who has a net worth of $1.39 billion, already has daughters Alexa and Saachi with his model ex-girlfriend Kate, from whom he separated in 2018. The business mogul then began dating Madeline the following year, when the model was 22 and he was 47.

Aussie woman slams huge problem after moving back to the country

A woman has asked Australians to share what they like about their country during a fiery rant about how much life has changed Down Under. Sandra Abu Rabei, who has moved back to Australia after living in Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia and Qatar said the country was going backwards. 'Once you move back it's not that same as what you see from overseas or how other people explain the way that they live here,' she said in a TikTok. 'A lot of people come and say "no it's great, the lifestyle's great". But it's honestly cooked. We are slaves to the system. 'We go to work, we go home and then what's next? 'We pay so much tax, we pay so much for groceries, everyone's so exhausted that all they do is go home and sit on the sofa. 'I just find there's no real community feel here but that's not my biggest issue. It's just the fact that we are slaves to the system.' Ms Abu Rabei asked those wearing 'rose-coloured glasses' to share why they thought Australia was still the lucky country. 'I think that's long gone,' she continued. 'It's just not an affordable place anymore. It's not a fun place. We are living in an actual s*** hole and there are so many better places than here.' Ms Abu Rabei, who has three children, told Daily Mail Australia that any of the previous countries she had lived in would be 'great options' to raise her kids. 'I believe raising children in a country that has a better work/life balance with less tax to help them succeed in the future,' the small business owner said. 'People aren't seeing the benefits of where their tax money goes. Speak to any Boomer and they will tell you how bad it is now compared to before. 'I think Malaysia has a great lifestyle and Jordan has a great sense of community.' Ms Abu Rabei said she would 'most likely' move overseas in the future. Dozens of Aussies agreed that life Down Under was not what it used to be. 'I grew up in Australia for 38 years and I left for another life abroad for 23 years. I have just returned and I feel the same as you. Australia has become very sad case,' one man commented. 'We are total slaves to the system, so blinded. It's incredibly expensive with high taxes on everything,' another said. 'The element of fun is minimal and (there's) a rule for everything.' 'I'm from London and lived in Australia for eight years. I want to leave because it doesn't offer my kids the best opportunities anymore now so I feel they'd be better off growing up in the UK and having closer access to Europe and other countries which are thriving,' a third person agreed. But many disagreed, with some arguing it could be a lot worse. 'Spend some time overseas in a third world country and you'd be grateful for everything that we take for granted in Australia,' one person wrote. 'Give me Australia any day where all I see is people whining about literally anything and everything which in reality is so small in the big scheme of life.'

The 'must-have' $18 item from Kmart shoppers can't get enough of: ''OMG I'm running to grab these'

With a recently big dip in temperatures nationwide, a cosy new release from Kmart is sending shoppers into a frenzy. Fans have been rushing in-store and online to snap up the retailer's latest winter must-have in the form of a fleecy pyjama set that feels 'super soft' according to the rave online reviews. Retailing for just $18 each, the Plush Fleece Top and Plush Fleece Pants are being hailed for their buttery-soft texture and elevated colourways. It's loungewear that feels like a warm hug without the high-end price tag. And bonus for the taller girls (and guys), these are quite long in the leg according to multiple online comments. 'So cosy and soft. True to size. They are quite long in length though,' one reviewer said online. The range comes in two wearable shades, a lilac and soft cream. Made from ultra-soft fleece material, the long-sleeved top features a relaxed, slightly oversized fit with dropped shoulders and a cosy crew neckline, while the matching pants have an elasticated waistband and drawstring tie for maximum comfort. As usual, Kmart has included these in their inclusive size range, with both pieces available in sizes 6 through to 22, ensuring everybody can indulge in a little winter luxury. Fashion-obsessed Aussie mum Zoe Nation, posted a video of herself wearing the popular set. 'Run to Kmart,' she said. Her video has been viewed more than 300,000 times - with one shopper confirming: 'Have them! And I can confirm so good.' 'Comfortable and so cute I bought purple and white,' another commented. 'Omg I need,' one shared. 'Running to grab these omg,' another added. Another item that has Kmart fans tripping over themselves is a newly released pair of high waisted white jeans - and they might even have Posh Spice herself doing a double take. The retail giant's $30 Wide Leg Pocket Jeans have a striking resemblance to Victoria Beckham's cult-favourite (and extremely pricey) $800 Alina Wide Leg Jeans. Right down to the tailored silhouette, oversized patch front pockets, flared bell-bottoms, and flattering high-waisted cut, this 'dupe' is most definitely note-worthy. The Kmart jeans - described as the 'perfect fit' - were originally available in shades Black, Light Wash Blue, Mid Wash Blue, but have now newly launched in a neutral shade called 'Ecru Denim', mimicking Posh's popular style almost exactly. With the temperatures at an all-time low across the country, it's no wonder Kmart have listened to the growing demand this winter with a pair of pants that flatter everyone. Melbourne mum Zeljka Abaza, who regularly shares affordable fashion finds with her 28,000 Instagram followers, has posted a video of herself styling the 'it' jeans in the newly released Ecru Denim colour. 'The must have jeans', she captioned the video, showing how she effortlessly paired the bargain pair with a crisp blue shirt tied up to the neck, and cream boots for a chic, professional look. The jeans, like Posh's, are crafted from 100 per cent durable cotton perfect for a structured and more tailored look. The resemblance is hard to deny, with Kmart's version offering a near-identical look for less than four per cent of the price. With their structured wide-leg cut, high-rise waist, and oversized patch pockets, they tick every box for comfort, style, and versatility as well as being flattering and forgiving for most body types. The addition of the Ecru shade – a creamy, soft neutral tone – couldn't have come at a better time. As Australians embrace pared-back tones and 'quiet luxury' dressing this winter, this shade is the perfect cool-weather alternative to stark white denim. Dozens of reviews on Kmart's website echo the same sentiment: Kmart has just dropped a designer dupe so good, even Posh Spice herself might do a double take (pictured wearing her designer wide leg jeans in the butter colour) 'Great style, fit, colour. My favourite jeans,' one raved. 'These are outstanding cut and fit, good quality 100 per cent cotton rigid denim and they are amazing,' another wrote. 'The front pockets are great because they don't add bulk to wider hips… I'm 170cm and these are long,' another noted on the popular style. 'They look so high end,' one suggested. While another added: 'It can be hard to find the perfect white pair of jeans and these look amazing.' With the video of Zeljka's styling racking up tens of thousands of views, it's no wonder stock is moving fast - with some revealing they have been struggling to get their hands on the jeans. 'Out of stock everywhere… all colours,' one said. If you're looking to elevate your winter wardrobe without blowing the budget, you might want to add these jeans to your cart before they sell out.
