'They've been great for us' - Referee Gough delivers support for FRC's new rules
Gough had given his thoughts on the changes brought in by the FRC when speaking to RTÉ last November and again with Newstalk's Off The Ball in January.
He said he was 'horrified' at the way the rules were written and described at the time as 'astonishing' the decision to bring in 49 rule changes.
But speaking yesterday as part of a panel discussion at the announcement of SuperValu's five-year sponsorship extension of the All-Ireland senior football championship, Gough revealed his backing for the rules since they have been implemented.

Gough was in charge of last Saturday's thrilling Ulster semi-final between Armagh and Tyrone, while he also last month refereed the Leinster quarter-final between Kildare and Westmeath.
'They've been great for us, once they bed in,' said the Meath official yesterday.
'I think the greatest one for us is one of the values that's based in the GAA. Respect – and the respect that's afforded to referees now on the pitch and from the sideline has increased greatly. I notice it not so much at inter-county level in that we have a great relationship (with the players) on the pitch and a good relationship with the management teams.
'But certainly for club referees around the country, they are telling us anecdotally that the enjoyment for them in refereeing and the respect that they're getting has increased significantly.
'That there's greater silence on the pitch and they're allowed make their decisions, go through the thought processes and there just seems to be a happy atmosphere among the referee cohort at the moment in relation to the respect on the field.'

Wexford woman receives lifetime achievement award for her contribution to camogie
The GPA Lifetime Achievement Award is a prestigious award presented by the Gaelic Players Association (GPA) and recognises the exceptional contributions of legendary inter-county players to Gaelic football, hurling, and the wider society. Margaret Leacy was named at wing back on the Camogie Team of the Century in 2004. From the Buffers Alley club, she won three All-Ireland senior titles with her county in 1968 and 1969 and then again in 1975. She is also the holder of 4 All-Ireland club titles, three with her home club and one with Eoghan Ruadh in Dublin while she played with them. She is also the holder of eight Gael Linn interprovincial medals and was selected as the Gaelic All Star Player of the Year in 1968. Her daughters Mary and Úna also won the O'Duffy Cup with Wexford. A representative on behalf of Oulart The Ballagh Club said they were thrilled that Margaret was being acknowledged for her role as a trailblazer. "What a special day it was in Croke Park. Margaret Leacy, a legend in the game of Camogie, was awarded with the GPA Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her extraordinary contribution to camogie, her club, and county,' they said. "Margaret has played a huge part of both Oulart - The Ballagh Camogie Club and Oulart - The Ballagh GAA Club. She has been hugely influential on our past and present players. She continued to be part of team management of all different age groups over the years. While also serving on both Camogie and GAA committees. We are forever grateful and appreciative of the years of hard work and dedication that Margaret has given to us as a club. Still to this day, Margaret is still in our pitch most evening watching and encouraging the next generation at games and trainings.' Gallant Cork senior camogie team praised for providing inspiration for the next generation
Captain fantastic Carrie Dolan emerged the hero for Galway as her late free secured victory on a final scoreline of 1-14 to 1-13 following a thrilling final. The Rebelettes played with 14 for just over half the game following Hannah Looney's straight red card and almost snatched victory following a brave comeback in the closing stages, but they agonisingly missed out securing three-in-a-row. In the aftermath of the game, warm tributes were paid to the Cork camogie team following their spirited performance last Sunday. Taoiseach Micheál Martin congratulated Galway for winning the title for the fifth time in their history. 'Congratulations to Galway on a thrilling victory in a most exciting All-Ireland final against a spirited and gallant Cork team.' Sinn Féin TD for Cork South Central Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire paid tribute to the Cork camogie team for fighting right to the end. 'Heartbreak for the Cork camogie team, but they really showed why they have been such fantastic champions. They fought right to the end and nearly pulled it off. 'Thank you to the players and all involved in Cork camogie for all the fantastic memories in the last few years and providing inspiration to the next generation,' he added. His party colleague Thomas Gould TD for Cork North Central said the Cork senior camogie team did themselves, their families and Cork proud. 'They never gave up and battled to the final whistle. Only an injury time free was the difference in a game where the Rebels never got any break. Thanks for a great year. Heads up agus Corcaigh Abú.'
