Ghanaian national arrested with cocaine worth Rs. 1.5 crore
The arrested man, identified as Henry Almoh, came to India four years ago and began living in Mumbai under the pretext of running a garment business. He was staying in a rented house in MIDC without undergoing police verification.
A police officer said they received a tip-off that Almoh was selling contraband. 'Based on the specific information, police raided his residence on Monday night and found 288 grams of cocaine from his residence,' said an MIDC police station officer.
Initially, Almoh did not cooperate, but during interrogation, 'He gave his Ghanaian passport which expired a year ago. Even during further search one more passport was found from his house which is from another country but seems forged. We have verified the documents,' the officer said.
'It seems that the accused have been in narcotics supply once he came to Mumbai but we are checking his call data records to get further leads about whom he was in touch and procuring contraband,' the officer added.
Almoh was arrested under The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Sybstances Act and produced in court on Tuesday, where he was remanded in police custody till August 19 for further probe.

Highway Body Imposes Rs 20 Lakh On Toll Plaza For Beating Up Soldier
New Delhi: State-owned NHAI has imposed a Rs 20 lakh fine on the toll collection agency of Bhuni toll plaza in Meerut where an Army personnel was beaten up by toll staff, an official statement said on Monday. NHAI said it has initiated the process of terminating and debarring the toll collection firm from future participation in toll plaza bids. "Taking strict action on the incident of misbehavior with army personnel by toll staff deployed at Bhuni toll plaza on Meerut-Karnal section of NH-709A on August 17, 2025, where a verbal altercation between an Army personnel and toll staff escalated into a fight," the statement said. The incident took place when Kapil, a soldier hailing from Gotka village, was returning to duty after leave. "NHAI has imposed a penalty of Rs 20 lakh on the toll collecting agency, M/s Dharam Singh, in view of the grave breach of the contract agreement due to the agency's failure to manage the situation and ensure staff discipline," the statement said. The local police has also lodged an FIR and arrested six people in this matter. NHAI said it strongly condemns such behaviour by the toll plaza staff and is committed to ensuring safe and seamless travel on National Highways.

Notorious drug dealer held in Meghalaya
1 2 Shillong: A notorious inter-state drug supplier was apprehended on Sunday in a coordinated 'naka' (barrier/check-point) operation based on credible intelligence input conducted under the jurisdiction of Khliehriat police station in Byndihati village by a joint team of the anti-narcotics task force, Meghalaya, and the East Jaintia Hills district police. The drug supplier has been identified as Isak L Joute and nine soap boxes containing heroin was recovered from him, the police said. "On the night of Aug 16, at around 10 PM, the ANTF, Meghalaya received reliable intelligence that one individual will be travelling from Churachandpur, Manipur to Shillong in a public passenger bus, suspected to be carrying illegal narcotics. Acting promptly on this input, ANTF officials coordinated with Khliehriat Police and a 'naka' was set up at Byndihati village and at approximately 2:15 PM on August 17, the team intercepted a passenger bus. .. enroute Silchar-to-Shillong and apprehended Isak L Joute (26 years)...," the police statement said. The police further said in the presence of independent witnesses, a search was conducted according to the provision of NDPS Act , during which 91.86 grams of heroin, concealed inside nine plastic soap boxes and worth around Rs 40 lakh in the illegal market, were recovered from him. "The recovered substances tested positive for heroin. Accordingly, a case has been registered at Khliehriat Police Station under the NDPS Act, and investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages," police said. Vigilance searches uncover ‘illegal' assets of irrigation engr
1 2 3 4 Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Monday conducted simultaneous searches at eight locations linked to a superintending engineer (irrigation division) of Angul district on allegations of possessing disproportionate assets. During the searches conducted across Sundargarh, Rourkela, Angul, Ganjam and Bhubaneswar, the vigilance officers unearthed two multi-storey residential buildings, a triple-storey building in Sundargarh and one double-storey building in Rourkela belonging to Surendra Behera. In Bhubaneswar, two flats (3-BHK and 2-BHK) were also detected. Four high-value land parcels were discovered, one each in Sundargarh and Rourkela, and two in Purushottampur in Ganjam district. Additionally, unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 1.25 lakh, three two-wheelers, and bank deposits and other financial investments worth Rs 51,97,340, were found. Household articles worth Rs 17.43 lakh were also detected. Vigilance officers are yet to open the bank lockers in the name of Behera's relatives. Acting on warrants issued by the special judge (vigilance), Sundargarh, a team comprising 3 DSPs, 10 inspectors, 4 ASIs and supporting staff carried out the searches. A vigilance release stated, "Further searches are continuing. Unearthing of more assets is likely, and overall valuation is likely to increase."
