Indian Express6 days ago
The MIDC police arrested a 34-year-old Ghanaian national on Monday night and allegedly seized cocaine worth Rs 1.5 crore. Police claim the accused has been living in India illegally, with his visa having expired a year ago, and a search of his residence led to the recovery of two passports from different countries.
The arrested man, identified as Henry Almoh, came to India four years ago and began living in Mumbai under the pretext of running a garment business. He was staying in a rented house in MIDC without undergoing police verification.
A police officer said they received a tip-off that Almoh was selling contraband. 'Based on the specific information, police raided his residence on Monday night and found 288 grams of cocaine from his residence,' said an MIDC police station officer.
Initially, Almoh did not cooperate, but during interrogation, 'He gave his Ghanaian passport which expired a year ago. Even during further search one more passport was found from his house which is from another country but seems forged. We have verified the documents,' the officer said.
'It seems that the accused have been in narcotics supply once he came to Mumbai but we are checking his call data records to get further leads about whom he was in touch and procuring contraband,' the officer added.
Almoh was arrested under The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Sybstances Act and produced in court on Tuesday, where he was remanded in police custody till August 19 for further probe.
