Dejagow played big role in getting classical lang status for Kannada: Prof Chethana
She was speaking after inaugurating a memorial to mark the birth anniversary of the writer, who was popularly known as Dejagow, at the Kuvempu Vidyavardhaka Trust and Sri Kuvempu Vidya Parishad Employees' Association.
She said Javaregowda, who was also former vice-chancellor of the University of Mysuru, was at the forefront in the struggle demanding classical language status for Kannada.
Dejagow was the first director of the Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Centre of the University of Mysore, guided and counselled thousands of students in their studies, and was one of the ardent followers of Kuvempu.
Kuvempu Vidyavardhaka Trust chief Ramanna also recalled his contributions in the preparation of the Kannada encyclopedia, promotion of research in the department of Kannada studies, establishment of educational institutions in Jayalakshmipuram for the promotion of education, and several other allied efforts apart from the promotion of Kannada literature and studies.
Retired Kannada professor DK Rajendra, Parthasarathy, and Kyathanahalli Ramanna were present.

DK schools continue to record zero admissions leading to closure
Mangaluru: Some schools in Dakshina Kannada continue to record zero admissions, leading to their closure. This academic year, to date, a total of 13 schools, including six government and aided educational institutions, received zero admissions. According to the school education and literacy department, every year, more than 10 schools in the district continued to receive zero admissions. In the 2024-25 academic year, a total of 14 schools in the district had zero enrolment. Govinda Madivala, DDPI, Dakshina Kannada, said that school admissions are open until the end of this month. The preference for English medium education among people has weakened the Kannada medium classes in government schools. With the increase in bilingual medium schools, the enrolment in Kannada medium has significantly declined. There are a total of 238 bilingual medium schools in the district with new schools recently approved," an education department official stated. The official added that even when a government school is nearby, parents opt for English medium schools and enrol their children in private schools. There is intense competition for student enrolment in bilingual medium government schools, while enrolment in Kannada medium schools is declining. CTE building in Mannur lying idle; locals demand renovation
Belagavi: The building constructed for the College of Teachers Education (CTE) on the premises of the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in Mannur village of Belagavi taluk has remained unused for years since its construction. This has raised concerns among locals and education experts, as the structure is now dilapidated and has become a hub for anti-social Karnataka government had allotted 10 acres of land in Mannur village with the vision of providing both Diploma in Education (DEd.) and Bachelor of Education (BEd) courses at a single location. Officials told to put in efforts to ensure the overall development of Yadgir district
Deputy Commissioner Harshal Bhoyar has said that officers of all government departments in coordination with the general public should put in efforts to ensure the overall development of the district. He was addressing a programme in Yadgir on Wednesday. Mr. Bhoyar said that district has been chosen, among others across the nation, by the Union government to be developed under the Aspirational District Programme. 'The district has climbed to the sixth place and Wadagera taluk is in the fifth place in the index targeted by the Union government for development. However, officers should put in more efforts in coordination with the general public to develop the district further,' he said. He appreciated the officers for what they have achieved and distributed appreciation letters to them during the programme. Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia said that the efforts being made by ASHAs, anganwadi workers, teachers and various other departments have helped achieve this.
