Perth Now6 days ago
A businessman and father-of-two killed in a horror collision outside Sydney's Taronga Zoo has been remembered as a devout family man and motorsport enthusiast, who earlier this year lived out his dream by competing in one of the world's most famous races.
Tim Miles, 58, died when his bicycle was struck by a bus outside the world-famous zoo at Mosman at about 10.30am on Sunday.
Mr Miles died at the scene, while the bus driver was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Mr Miles's family on Sunday issued a statement, describing him as 'bright, shining light'.
'Tim was involved in a tragic and ultimately fatal accident this morning in Sydney while enjoying one of his favorite hobbies – cycling,' the family said.
'His loss is keenly felt by friends and family, especially wife Tracy and daughters Caley and Erin.
'Tim was a family man, though one who loved nothing more than stressing out his beloved Tracy about his latest motorsport-related purchase or adventure – all the while proudly telling stories of his two daughters' successes in life.
'His passing will be notably impactful on his other love – a motorsport community that felt Tim's impact as a competitor, an owner, a supporter and as a businessman for more than 35 years.' He used his business to support his beloved motorsport, competing in one-make Porsche racing and GT competition and sponsoring up-and-coming drivers.

During the race, he paid tribute to long-time friend and New Zealand driver Rod McElrea.
'Tim was a fantastic storyteller, a man with a brilliant sense of humour and who showed genuine interest in the lives of those around him – whether he'd known them for years or just met them,' his family said in a statement.
'His loss will be keenly felt by family and friends, the business community in which he worked and the motorsport community in which he lived.'
The crash is being examined by the NSW police crash unit.

Woman attacked with axe before Ford Mustang stolen, police allege

A man has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted a woman with an axe, stole her classic Ford Mustang then ran her over with it, before driving at 180 km/h through NSW South Coast towns on Saturday afternoon. Police pursued the man by vehicle, by Pol Air, and used road spikes, but the chase only came to a stop an hour later when he collided with a Ford utility and members of the public detained him. Detailing the event, NSW Police said officers had been called to a home east of Nowra shortly before 1pm on Saturday, after reports of a man armed with an axe and a hammer. When members of the South Coast Police District arrived at the home on Rayleigh Drive, Worrigee, they allege that the man threw the axe at a police vehicle. The man retrieved the axe then ran to a home in nearby Illawarra Circuit – where he allegedly assaulted a 66-year-old woman while she was sitting in her Ford Mustang, which police said was a 2017 'one of a kind' model. Police allege the man hit the woman multiple times with the axe before forcing her out of the car. The woman was then run over by her own car as the man drove it away. Police pursued the man through the south coast towns of Nowra, Bomaderry, Berry, Gerringong, and Kiama at 180km/h, through some 80km/h speed zones. Police tried to use road spikes to end the pursuit, but the driver allegedly swerved the vehicle towards a highway patrol officer narrowly missing him and the spikes.
