Toronto man, 26, wins $60M lottery jackpot
The 26-year-old from Toronto, who works in the software industry, said he got a phone call from an unknown number — a representative from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG). Mei had missed an email informing him that he had won a prize, and the caller asked him to check his OLG account.
"I'm talking to OLG people, but at the same time I'm googling the number, googling trying to find any information to verify if this is legit," he said in a video provided by OLG announcing his win from the May 7 draw.
After Mei saw the win in his account, he said his first call was to his parents.
"I said, 'now you guys never have to worry about money anymore. You can just retire now, you can enjoy the rest of your life,'" he said.
He said his friends were jumping for joy when he told them the news.
Mei said he plans to use the win to further his education and travel around the world — particularly to Antarctica, Finland and Iceland.
"[I'd] love to see the Aurora Borealis and just everything that's new to me," he said.

The news of Nicks' injury comes more than three months after she first announced her solo tour in April, writing at the time that she couldn't 'wait to share these nights with you.' The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer had also been supposed to tour with Billy Joel this year, but the Piano Man similarly had to cancel all of his 2025 and 2026 performances as he battles a condition called normal pressure hydrocephalus. In July, he provided an update on how he's faring, telling Bill Maher, 'I feel good … They keep referring to what I have as a brain disorder, so it sounds a lot worse than what I'm feeling.' Nicks is currently working on a new album, her first in 14 years. The Grammy winner first revealed that she was getting back into the studio as she was being inducted into the Pollstar Hall of Fame. 'I call it the ghost record,' she said in her speech. 'It just really kinda happened in the last couple of weeks because of, you know, the [Los Angeles] fires. I was sitting in a hotel for 92 days, and at some point during that last part of the 92 days, I said, 'You know what? I feel like I'm on the road, but there's no shows. I'm just sitting here by myself, because everybody else is at the house, doing all the remediations and everything, and it's just me, sitting here.' And I thought, 'You need to go back to work.' Photo Gallery: The Dionne quintuplets Cécile Dionne, one of the world-famous Dionne quintuplets, died on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the age of 91 following a long illness, a family spokesperson confirmed. Cécile and her sisters became an instant global sensation from the moment of their birth in the Ontario community of Corbeil on May 28, 1934, as they became the first quintuplets known to survive past infancy. Carlo Tarini, a spokesperson of the family, confirmed the death and told The Canadian Press that Cécile died early Monday morning. "She lived her life with quiet dignity, exemplary discretion, and gentle humour, despite the hardships of a childhood lived in the public eye," reads an obituary Tarini shared. Cécile weighed less than two pounds when she was born and dealt with osteoporosis and other ongoing health problems related to her premature birth. She also fought COVID-19 twice, Tarini said. "She was not just a survivor, she was a real fighter. She showed remarkable strength of character," Tarini said in an interview Friday. The Dionne quintuplets were hailed as a salve to the gloom of financial austerity at the peak of their Depression-era fame — but the sisters said the attention came at a personal cost. Cécile and her sister Annette, who is now the last remaining quintuplet, spoke to The Canadian Press in 2019 and said parents should view childhood as a precious time that shouldn't be exploited for profit.
