Paranormal Investigator Known For Work With Allegedly Haunted Annabelle Doll Dies At 54

Yahoo16-07-2025
Dan Rivera, a paranormal investigator and one of the handlers of the allegedly haunted Annabelle doll that inspired 'The Conjuring' film franchise, died last Sunday in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He was 54.
The New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR) confirmed Rivera's death in a statement shared Tuesday on its social media platforms.
'We understand that Dan's work inspired fascination and curiosity for many, but above all, he was a father, devoted husband and loyal friend, someone who meant the world to those closest to him,' the statement read in part. 'Dan gave so many pieces of himself ― through his kindness, his strength, his faith ― and those pieces will live on in all of us.'
Before his death, Rivera had been participating in the NESPR's 'Devils on the Run Tour,' which celebrated the work of late supernatural investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who were his mentors. During his appearances, the Connecticut native presented Annabelle to 'those brave enough to face her,' according to press notes.

Though Rivera's cause of death has not yet been publicly confirmed, Adams County Chief Deputy Coroner Scott Pennewill told NBC's Today it was 'nothing suspicious.' He also clarified that Annabelle was not present in the hotel room where Rivera's body was found, though he was unaware of the doll's location.
'The coroner's office and the state police were called to the scene on Sunday night,' Pennewill said. 'He did go for an autopsy today and it's pending.'
Rivera is survived by his wife, Sarah, and their four children.
Ed and Lorraine Warren rose to prominence in the 1970s as one of the first investigators of the 'Amityville Horror' case, which took place in Amityville, New York and became the basis for the 1977 book and subsequent film franchise.
In the late 1960s, the couple investigated the case of Annabelle, a Raggedy Ann doll they claimed was 'possessed' by an 'evil-spirited entity.'
Ed Warren died in 2006 at age 79, followed by Lorraine in 2019 at age 92. Their story was adapted for the big screen in 2013 as 'The Conjuring,' starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as the Warrens. The film begins with the pair investigating Annabelle, whose origins were later explored in 2014's 'Annabelle' and 2017's 'Annabelle: Creation.'

NASCAR Fans Are Calling For 1 Driver To Be Suspended On Saturday

NASCAR Fans Are Calling For 1 Driver To Be Suspended On Saturday originally appeared on The Spun. Things got dangerously chippy at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday during NASCAR's Pennzoil 250 in the Xfinity Series. Earlier in the day, driver Austin Hill earned himself a big penalty for his retaliatory rear hook of Aric Almirola which resulted in a five-lap hold for the Richard Childress wheelman. But fans are going as far as saying that the 31-year-old Georgia native needs to be suspended as evidenced by their reactions on social media: "Suspend Austin Hill for 1 week, be consistent Nascar," a user replied. "Right rear hook with a scary ass hard hit. Hill had it going straight then just threw it left. Should be the same outcome as these. Nothing more, nothing less." "Suspend Austin Hill for that f—ing s—t… no shot that wasn't intentional," another said. "Austin Hill should be parked and suspended immediately," a fan posted. "The hands don't lie. That was 100% intentional and unacceptable." "I gained a little bit of respect for Austin Hill after I met him yesterday. And now it's all gone again," another person commented. "Suspend his ass. That was absolutely [BS]." "NASCAR parking Austin Hill for 5 laps absolutely better not be the only outcome here. If he's not suspended this coming week there's a big problem." Hill let loose an expletive-laced rant after he got sat down. Saying on his radio: "Oh they can go f—k themselves. F—k NASCAR. That is f—ing bulls—t. I'm f—ing sideways, I go to correct it back to the left, it gets locked to the left, I f—ing run into the 19 [Almirola]." Two arrested for child abuse, drug trafficking in Riverside

Two people were arrested after a child abuse investigation led to the discovery of a large amount of narcotics inside of a Riverside home, according to police. Investigators with the Riverside Police Department began to look into allegations of child abuse back in May after learning that three children may have been physically abused by their parents at a home int he 7900 block of Magnolia Avenue, according to a news release from the department. "By then, the children had already been removed by Riverside County Child Protective Services and placed in temporary foster care," the release said. "During the investigation, detectives also suspected the parents were trafficking illegal narcotics from the home." On July 15, detectives served a search warrant at the home and found more than 900 grams of suspect heroin, over 300 grams of cocaine, nearly 155 grams of ecstasy and approximately 200 grams of suspected fentanyl pills, according to police. They also found cash and packaging materials. "The drugs were found in areas easily accessible to the children, and detectives believe the children were also exposed to the manufacturing and distribution of narcotics," police said. Miguel Jacobo, 34, and Alma Dominguez, 34, were both arrested and remain behind bars without bail. Police reported that Jacobo was booked for suspicion of narcotics violations, child abuse and child endangerment, among other felony charges, while Dominguez was booked on suspicion of felony child endangerment.

Colonial Downs Stewards Suspend Francisco Arrieta For 15 Days For 'Extremely Careless' Ride

Colonial Downs Stewards Suspend Francisco Arrieta For 15 Days For 'Extremely Careless' Ride originally appeared on Paulick Report. Francisco Arrieta, the jockey aboard the horse that shut off the mount of Tyler Conner, who suffered a serious spinal injury in a spill at Colonial Downs on July 24, has been suspended 15 days by track stewards, BloodHorse reports. Arrieta's suspension, announced Saturday, will be served Aug 2-16. The stewards in their ruling described Arrieta's actions as "extremely careless." Conner and his mount Stanza were improving position while leaving the far turn in the Race 7 when they were shut off by Arrieta aboard Montador, according to the Equibase chart. Stanza clipped heels, stumbled, and fell, injuring Conner. Montador went on to win the race but was disqualified and placed last. The New Kent, Va. track canceled the remainder of the July 24 card. Conner suffered a broken nose and a fractured C1 vertebra, the first vertebra under the skull. He is in intensive care at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. His girlfriend, Lucy Houle, told the publication he has been able to walk. To read the complete story at click here.
