Netflix Stock (NFLX) Switches on as Penny Pinching Brits Sign-Up for Ads
Shares in streaming giant Netflix (NFLX) were brighter today after cost-conscious Brits helped its U.K. arm rake in record annual profits. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. Ad Free Netflix said that pre-tax annual profits at Netflix Services U.K. came in at £63 million in 2024, up from the £60.6 million it achieved in 2023. Its revenues also leapt from £1.66 billion in 2023 to £1.84 billion. Netflix said the increase in its revenue was due to an 11% surge in the average number of paid memberships during the year. It said more than 55% of its new sign-ups had come through its advertising tier while membership on its advertising plan grew by almost 30% quarter over quarter. The number of subscribers has been boosted by the streaming service's crackdown on password sharing in the UK. But, the company is also seeing growth elsewhere in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. During the 12 months, the company also distributed an interim dividend of £50 million to its US parent. In August last year, it also loaned £375 million to Netflix Inc. U.K. Investment In a statement, Netflix said: 'Netflix is a significant contributor to the UK economy – investing $6bn over the last four years and working with over 50,000 cast and crew and 200+ producers to produce British content such as Adolescence, Baby Reindeer and Black Doves that is loved the world over. We're committed for the long term and invest more here than any other country except the US.' Netflix's results contradict previous studies on U.K. viewership. They have revealed how Brits are trying to enhance their viewing experience without the 'annoyance' of adverts during runs of their favourite shows. A recent report in the U.K. found that Brits are spending £5 billion a year just to avoid adverts on major streaming services. The Finder report found that over 31 million UK adults pay for premium, ad-free subscriptions across Netflix, Amazon (AMZN) Prime, Disney (DIS) + and Spotify (SPOT). Good news on the surface for streaming providers but perhaps storing up a problem over the long-term if advertisers begin to feel snubbed. Overall, however, Netflix feels optimistic about the future. In the group's Q2 earnings last month, it increased its full-year revenue guidance to $44.8 billion to $45.2 billion, up from the prior guide of $43.5 billion to $44.5 billion. This further bolstered the Netflix stock price – see above – which has soared over 30% this year. Is NFLX a Good Stock to Buy Now? On TipRanks, NFLX has a Moderate Buy consensus based on 25 Buy, 11 Hold and 1 Sell ratings. Its highest price target is $1,600. NFLX stock's consensus price target is $1,395.19, implying a 16.61% upside.

Tesla Stock (TSLA) Tumbles as it Bins Dojo AI Plans
Shares in Tesla (TSLA) dropped today on fears that it is losing ground in the AI race after scrapping its Dojo supercomputer plans. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. According to a report in Bloomberg, Tesla has decided to break up the Dojo team, which was focused on developing in-house chips to power its self-driving technology. Team Disbanded It is understood that Dojo's lead guru, Peter Bannon, is leaving the company, and the remaining team members will be reassigned to other data center and compute projects within Tesla. The move follows the departure of around 20 workers, who left the automaker to start their own AI company called Density AI. It is reportedly busy building chips, hardware, and software that will power data centers for AI that are used in robotics, by AI agents, and in automotive applications. No reasons have been given for the strategic shift which will come as a blow to chief executive Elon Musk who wanted the market to view Tesla as an AI and robotics company. This is despite Auto revenues dominating the company's top line – see above. AI Pals Indeed, Musk has said that Dojo was the cornerstone of Tesla's AI ambitions and its goal to reach full self-driving due to its ability to 'process truly vast amounts of video data.' In 2023, Morgan Stanley predicted Dojo could add $500 billion to the company's market value by unlocking new revenue streams in the form of robotaxis and software services. It is making progress in this aim with the recent launch of its robotaxi service and advances in its self-driving technology. It also has Cortex, which is the company's giant new AI training supercomputer being built in Texas and set to power the Tesla ecosystem -see below – including humanoid robot Optimus and self-driving cars. Despite this, sources told Bloomberg that now Tesla plans to increase its reliance on Nvidia (NVDA), as well as other external tech partners like AMD (AMD) for compute and Samsung for chip manufacturing. Tesla recently signed a $16.5 billion deal with Samsung to make its AI6 inference chips, a chip design that promises to scale from powering self-driving and Optimus all the way to high-performance AI training in data centers. Is TSLA a Good Stock to Buy Now? On TipRanks, TSLA has a Hold consensus based on 13 Buy, 15 Hold and 8 Sell ratings. Its highest price target is $500. TSLA stock's consensus price target is $305.37, implying a 5.24% downside.

After 'F1' sponsorship, SharkNinja brings its two main brands together online
Barrocas says he got a number of texts from people who were surprised to see his company up on the big screen, and so frequently throughout the movie. Advertisement 'It was the first time that we've come out in a big way and marketed 'SharkNinja,'' Barrocas said in an interview. 'It's going to be a great lead in for us as we relaunch our website.' Barrocas declined to say how much the company paid to sponsor the fictional team, but the return, he said, has been equal to at least six times that investment. With the website, he hopes to encourage repeat buyers to try other SharkNinja products, and to tell the 'SharkNinja story.' (SharkNinja replaced the previous corporate name, Euro-Pro, in 2015, but the company continued to focus on promoting specific product lines as opposed to the overall business.) 'Now that the SharkNinja company has gained so much awareness, we really want consumers to understand that this company is the maker of these two great brands,' Barrocas said. Advertisement Not just consumers, but also potential employees. Building awareness around the publicly traded corporate parent could help with recruiting: A spokesperson says there are around 100 open positions at the Needham headquarters, where about 1,000 people work today. On the earnings call, analyst Randal Konik at investment bank Jefferies & Co. asked Barrocas about where the CEO takes the SharkNinja brand from here. Barrocas responded by saying every Formula One team has approached SharkNinja about sponsorship opportunities, indicating real life may end up imitating art in this case. 'The consumer is starting to recognize there's this great company behind these two great brands,' Barrocas told Konik. 'We need to take it in stages [but] I think there will be more and more opportunities for us to market the SharkNinja business and not just the Shark or Ninja brands.'
