📸 Freiburg move into UCL places with crucial goal against Frankfurt
The race for Champions League football in the Bundesliga has taken a fresh twist as SC Freiburg now lead Eintracht Frankfurt.
Ritsu Doan opened the scoring for the hosts just shy of the 30-minute mark to boost their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
Although Borussia Dortmund still lead 1-0 against Holstein Kiel, it is them who drop out of the top four on goal difference.

Frankfurt occupy fourth as things stand, but that could change if Dortmund add a second and third against the 10 men of Holstein Kiel.
Freiburg are in third and a victory will guarantee them Champions League football next season.

Jorrel Hato departure not a given: 'Ajax is home for me'
As conversations with Ajax club media have shown, Jorrel Hato's summer departure is not a given. The youngster has enjoyed some heavy interest from several top European clubs, but he seems open to a longer stay in Amsterdam. Arsenal and Chelsea, in particular, have been tracking the 19-year-old Hato, who was asked about his future plans. 'The smartest thing is to look at it per season. That's what I do,' said the defender. 'Of course, you want to achieve things in the end: the Champions League, a World Cup and a European Championship.' Advertisement 'I still have plenty of time. I don't think: I absolutely have to win the Champions League in two years,' Hato continued his story. What is the youngster's ultimate football dream? 'That is winning a World Cup. You want to be there when it happens.' Hato has already faced Lamine Yamal with the Dutch national team, but in the Eredivisie the Ajax defender cannot compete with such top players. He spoke of the domestic dynamic. 'In the Dutch league, you have to show how good you are against the big clubs. Ultimately, I have to continue to develop the things I am already good at, so that it becomes the best. How do I describe my time at Ajax? Ajax is home for me. I just feel at home here.' Cunha determined to change fortunes of 'dream team' Man Utd
Matheus Cunha says he is determined to help Manchester United bounce back from their worst league season in 51 years after becoming the club's first major signing of the transfer window. The 20-time English champions are undergoing a rebuild under Ruben Amorim after limping home 15th in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final to fellow strugglers Tottenham. Advertisement Defeat in Bilbao cost them Champions League qualification, meaning United will spend a first season without European football since 2014/15. But the Red Devils' issues did not deter Brazil international Cunha, who completed his £62.5 million ($85 million) switch from Wolves on Thursday. "It is the most common phrase that you can say at this moment, but this is the dream come true," the 26-year-old told MUTV. "Maybe outside, I think maybe my decision, they don't understand. But when you have always dreamed to play here, it's easier to pick this decision. "For me, no one else is like United. Of course, I know it's been a hard season for everyone. I think my decision shows what this club is for me and what I believe this club can be. Advertisement "And, of course, I'll do everything that I can to manage this inside of me, to play for my dream team and put my dream team to win." Cunha followed United growing up and spoke of his admiration for Wayne Rooney, along with many other members of the triumphant 2008 Champions League side. The Red Devils have tumbled out of Europe's elite in recent years but the forward has lofty ambitions. "I don't think we have one player who comes here and then doesn't think about the glory days in Man United," Cunha said. "To remember all the times that they win the Premier League, how many titles it was, and of course to qualify for the Champions League. This is what I think about United, you know to put this club on top. Advertisement "Then what I can do is everything to show them I'm here to help the team, to conquer these kind of things." Cunha scored 17 goals in all competitions for Wolves last season, winning the Premier League club's players' player of the year award. He will add his predatory instincts and creative guile to a United attack that struggled throughout this season. The striker helped his country qualify for the World Cup earlier this week when he set up the only goal for Vinicius Junior in a 1-0 win over Paraguay. jw/ea

Atalanta negotiate Kossounou discount from Bayer Leverkusen
Atalanta have reportedly agreed a €20m fee to buy Odilon Kossounou outright from Bayer Leverkusen, at a slight discount, while Torino bought Cristiano Biraghi from Fiorentina. This is the time of the transfer market where clubs decide whether or not to make loan moves permanent, and if so, to stick with the agreed options to buy or renegotiate the terms. Kossounou injury prompted rethink Odilon Kossounou of Atalanta BC during the Serie A match between Udinese and Atalanta at Stadio Friuli on January 11, 2025 in Udine, Italy. (Photo by) Atalanta were very eager to keep hold of Kossounou, but were seeking a discount from Bayer Leverkusen on the original €25m option to buy. Advertisement This is because they already spent €5.2m on the one-season loan and above all the defender had to miss quite a lot of it following surgery on a torn tendon. That kept him out of action from mid-January to mid-April, a three-month gap during a key part of the campaign. Kossounou ultimately made 23 competitive appearances in the Atalanta jersey, contributing two assists in the Champions League. According to transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano, Atalanta were able to negotiate Bayer Leverkusen down to €20m. It was by no means certain, despite the fact the cost of the operation was a measly €100,000 following a six-month loan.
