Ritsu Doan joins Eintracht Frankfurt on deal through 2030
Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday confirmed the signing of Japan winger Ritsu Doan until 2030 from Freiburg. Doan arrives for a reported fee of €20 million euros ($23.2 million). He made 123 appearances for Freiburg, scoring 26 goals and laying on 23 assists. The 27-year-old played a key role last season, netting 10 times and adding eight assists as Freiburg finished fifth in the Bundesliga to qualify for the Europa League. Doan is Frankfurt's second major signing after Jonathan Burkardt as it looks to cover for the loss of Hugo Ekitike, who left for Premier League champion Liverpool. "In the past few years Ritsu Doan has shown his high quality in the Bundesliga and brings a level of skill which will help us to achieve our goals," Frankfurt Sporting Director Markus Kroesche said in a statement. Doan has 57 caps for Japan, scoring 10 goals. Frankfurt plays its final preseason friendly on Saturday away at Premier League side Fulham, before opening its Bundesliga campaign at home against Werder Bremen on August 23.

Doan could make his Frankfurt debut Aug. 17 in a German Cup game against fifth-tier Engers. Frankfurt's first Bundesliga game of the season is six days later at home to Werder Bremen.

The 27-year-old Doan, who has earned 57 caps with Japan, joins after three years at Freiburg where he scored 26 goals and set up another 23 in 123 matches. Frankfurt finished third in the league last season and will compete in the Champions League. 'Ritsu Doan has proved his real quality over recent years in the Bundesliga and brings with him the type of skills that will help us achieve our goals,' Eintracht board member for sport Markus Kroesche said in a statement. 'He has gained plenty of international experience in a Japan jersey and his technique, speed and mindset certainly made him stand out in recent years when he was at Freiburg. We're delighted that Ritsu has signed with us.' Prior to the Bundesliga, Doan had spent four seasons in the Dutch league with Groningen and PSV Eindhoven.
