Inter Miami blows chance to win FIFA Club World Cup group, sets up showdown with Lionel Messi's old team
The Brazilians' late rally canceled out a brilliant individual performance from Luis Suarez, who scored a goal that echoed the peak of his long career and contributed a clever assist for Miami.
Tadeo Allende also scored for the Herons, who still advanced to the round of 16 at the FIFA Club World Cup after a second-place finish.

Palmeiras (1-0-2, 5 points) finished above Miami (1-0-2, 5 points) on goal difference and will face Botafogo on Saturday in Philadelphia.
Lionel Messi and Miami will play Messi's former club, Paris Saint-Germain, on Saturday in Atlanta.
Paulinho cut Palmeiras' deficit in half after he ran onto Allan's clever diagonal ball into the area, then finished into the bottom left corner just ahead of Benjamin Cremaschi's challenge.
Seven minutes later, Mauricio hammered in an emphatic finish low with his first touch after he was first to Marcelo Weigandt's headed partial clearance.
Now 38 years old, Suarez looked at least 10 years younger when he doubled Miami's lead in the 65th minute.

After receiving a pass from the left, he used his body to ward off Lucas Evangelista's challenge, then drove at and cut back across the body of defender Bruno Fuchs.

Although Fuchs poked the ball with an outstretched heel, Suarez kept possession, sorted his feed, then powered a ferocious half volley that sailed past Weverton into the near top corner.
Allende put Miami in front in the 16th minute on one of the most direct goals of the tournament.
Federico Redondo cleared the ball from his own penalty area, and Suarez made a retreating run from the center circle to meet the clearance.

With one touch, Suarez put the ball onto the path of Allende racing forward across the midfield stripe into open space.
And with Palmeiras defender Murilo appearing to suffer a hamstring strain while on the chase, Allende had plenty of time on the break to compose himself before driving a crisp, low finish past Weverton.

How to watch Leagues Cup quarterfinal: Messi's status in question as Inter Miami hosts Tigres
Inter Miami, built around Lionel Messi and a veteran core, hosts Tigres UANL on Wednesday night at Chase Stadium. Three wins separate both clubs from the trophy, and the margin for error is slim. Live coverage is also available on Apple TV+ via MLS Season Pass. Miami holds meaningful advantages. A win secures a home semifinal. With Inter Miami sitting second in the Leagues Cup standings, the Herons would also have a good chance to host the final if they get there. Javier Mascherano's side is managing Messi's right hamstring after his early exit against Necaxa and a limited, yet decisive, return versus the Galaxy in a 3-1 victory on Saturday. Messi scored a goal and had an assist against LA, but his status for Wednesday won't be known until closer to match time. Elsewhere, Rodrigo De Paul has arrived from Atlético Madrid on loan, while Federico Redondo's move to Elche opens midfield minutes for others. For Tigres, this is the marquee test. Ángel Correa, newly signed from Atlético, enters as a joint top scorer in the tournament with four goals, sharing the lead with Toluca's Paulinho. André Pierre Gignac remains the penalty-box reference, with Diego Lainez and Juan Brunetta supplying from wide areas. Head coach Guido Pizarro sets the shape and can drop Fernando Gorriarán deeper to solidify midfield. Advertisement On the field, Miami's plan starts with Messi drifting between the lines, if he's cleared to play. Sergio Busquets dictates rhythm, Jordi Alba widens the pitch and Luis Suárez stays on the last shoulder for cutbacks. The tradeoff is in transition, where Busquets' lack of pace and Suárez's light pressing can leave gaps. Tigres will try to crowd the half spaces, win midfield turnovers and attack the channels Alba vacates. Streaming and ticketing links in this article are provided by partners of The Athletic. Barcelona receive positive scouting report on defender wanted by Arsenal and Napoli
Europe's biggest clubs continue to scour Latin America for the best emerging talent on the continent, and nowhere has been a happier hunting ground of late than Palmeiras. The Brazilian giants have sold the likes of Willian Estevao, Endrick Felipe and Vitor Reis for well over €100m. The latest talent to captivate scouts from Europe is defender Luiz Benedetti. The 19-year-old centre-back has begun making inroads into the first team under Abel Ferreira, and is tipped to be one of the next wonderkids to cross the Atlantic. Barcelona receive positive scout report on Benedetti According to Sport (via Sempre Barca), Barcelona have received positive feedback on Benedetti from their scouts. The teenage defender has the benefit of being a left-footed central defender, in short supply on the market, and is already an imposing figure. Standing at 197cm (6'5), Benedetti reportedly stands out for his aerial ability, positioning and speed. He also has an Italian passport, which would facilitate a move to a European giant. Image via Divulgacao / Tribuna Arsenal and Napoli competing for Benedetti signature Benedetti's potential is no secret though, and a number of European giants also appear to have evaluated him positively. Just Arsenal have reported on the Gunners' interest in him, and the Catalan daily say that Arsenal have presented a €10m offer for Benedetti already. In addition, Italian giants Napoli have also made contact over a potential move. They intend to put together an offer in the coming days. Barcelona's focus elsewhere? Given the level of interest in Benedetti, Barcelona may have to move quickly to try and sign him. As it stands, their full focus appears to be on registering their current players, and sealing the necessary exits to do so. Given Benedetti is already playing in the Copa Libertadores for Palmeiras, Barcelona would likely have to offer him a role in the first team, or loan him out initially.
