The Ultimate Amalfi Coast Itinerary: Top Villas, Boat Tours & Michelin Dining
getty
Just a few hours south of Rome, Italy's Amalfi Coast unfolds into a breathtaking landscape of rugged cliffs overlooking cerulean waters. Lush with lemon groves and olive trees, it's an Italian paradise that attracts crowds in droves. According to recent data from Oliver's Travels, Campania—which includes Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast—ranks as the second most searched region in Italy. For high-demand destinations, it is essential for travelers to make reservations early and plan well in advance for the experiences they want to have. Use this guide to help you plan your visit to the Amalfi Coast right and enjoy a relaxing, peaceful escape to one of Italy's most beautiful destinations.
Begin by booking a villa rental with the UK-based Oliver's Travels (awarded Best Villa Company in the World by Condé Nast Traveller readers). For the past 20 years, they have curated an intriguing portfolio of handpicked villas and châteaux. One thing your rental will not be is ordinary. Indeed, our Villa Minette in Sant'Agata was the oldest villa in the town (dating back 600 years)—the two-foot-thick walls and tiled floors were testament to its remarkable heritage. The team at Oliver's offers concierge services to manage every aspect of your trip, from arranging private chefs and transfers to organizing activities and babysitting. More importantly, they were in constant contact about the villa, ensuring check-in formalities went smoothly. Our on-site contact was indispensable for planning, dinner reservations, and car transfers. We arrived to a stocked refrigerator as well—a thoughtful touch after a long day of traveling.
The best way to familiarize yourself with the region and its stunning scope is by boat—touring by car promises lots of time on winding roads sitting in traffic. For your first day, work with the villa concierge to arrange a private guided boat tour—they'll handle the transfer to and from the marina as well. Touring by boat allows you to explore seaside towns such as Positano, Praiano, and Amalfi, with time at the end for a swim.
Another must-see experience is a visit to Pompeii, just a short one-hour drive from Sorrento or Sant'Agata. Given the staggering size of this archaeological site, it's essential to book a guide to make ideal use of your time. We worked with Access Italy, a company with 40 years of experience arranging tours across Italy. Owned by Italians, the team is based in Rome and has spent decades cultivating a portfolio of seasoned local guides. For Pompeii, our driver was a 25-year veteran of the company, and our guide was in her 30th year in the business. Seeing the crowds at Pompeii, she wisely reversed our tour route and started us at the end so we could enjoy the museum in peace. She then guided us through the expansive site, targeting the highlights with depth and optimal timing to best avoid the masses—of course, she knew everyone who worked there, which helped move things along. Even her advice on the best times for snacks and bathroom breaks made the entire visit a smart, seamless way to explore one of the most popular tourist sites in Italy.
Demonstration kitchen for cooking classes at Don Alfonso 1890
Don Alfonso 1890
A cooking class is an excellent way to understand the local cuisine, as is dining in one of the region's legendary restaurants—and you can do both at Don Alfonso 1890, a Michelin-starred restaurant and hotel in Sant'Agata. I suggest breaking the experience up and booking the cooking class for lunch one day and dinner the following day, as both will leave you quite satisfied. Cooking classes are held in a charming, fully equipped private kitchen overlooking a lush courtyard. Here, a team of chefs will guide you through three dishes, putting you to work cleaning crawfish, cutting pasta dough, and slicing citrus and eggplant, all while demonstrating how each recipe can best be adjusted for home cooking. The experience comes loaded with time-honored clever techniques, and you'll leave with several new recipes—but the highlight of the experience is taking a seat at the beautifully laid table and dining on your creations. Wines are paired with each course, and you'll get a chance to peek into their stunning main kitchen to see how a Michelin-starred restaurant operates. The four-hour experience will leave you in need of a nap and a light dinner, which is why I suggest booking your dining experience for the following day.
Michelin starred dishes at Don Alfonso
Don Alfonso 1890
Don Alfonso 1890 is both sophisticated and inviting; a true family-run establishment that takes guests on a historic tour of the centuries-old culinary heritage and traditions of the Amalfi Coast. Dishes are inspired by the organic produce of the family farm, Le Peracciole situated on 17 acres across the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula. The farm yields everything from olive oil and fresh vegetables to lemons for their famous limoncello. The multi-course menu features the local best—consider the smoked yellowtail served with wild fennel seeds and fried garlic mayonnaise, a fresh and brightly flavored taste of the sea. Similarly, the lobster and mozzarella skewer over pineapple ravioli with vanilla beetroot heart and spumante jelly is exquisite. Classic offerings such as beef ravioli with a Genovese ragout drizzled with a parmesan and black truffle foam are impeccably prepared as well. Regardless of what you order, plan for an evening of dazzling bites and true Italian hospitality.
Al fresco dining at Bellevue Syrene
Bellevue Syrene
Pair your dinner with unparalleled views at Bellevue Syrene, located in the heart of Sorrento. Here, the spectacular fuchsia-blue hued sunset is as delicious and fabulous as the cuisine. The al fresco dining room faces the sea, so everyone has a prime view, and live soft piano music accompanies the ambiance. Views of Mount Vesuvius just add to the spectacle. When you can tear your eyes away from the horizon, consider savoring a dish of succulent tomatoes and burrata, or sea bream in a silky potato cream. Their Sorrento lobster with a savory shallot dressing is equally delicious. The cocktails and mocktails are certainly worthy, but the wine list is more tempting, with several older vintages offered from Italy's top wine regions.
A few other things to consider: Skip a rental car and book all transfers to and from the region prior to arriving. You'll spend your time enjoying the scenery rather than white-knuckling it through the many hairpin turns. Everything is in demand so book in advance as much as possible to avoid disappointment.

I'm a Curvy Traveler, and These 10 Amazon Finds Are Stylish Enough to Take Me From Summer Into Fall—From $20
I consider myself a bit of an expert when it comes to finding curve-friendly travel clothes online. The key is to think about every aspect of the piece you want to buy, including the fabric, cut, functionality, and, of course, reviews from other plus-sized travelers. I've worn a G-cup bra since high school and have fluctuated between sizes 12 and 22 throughout adulthood—I live this frequent flier curvy life. I've had my fair share of wins and failures while shopping for clothes online, too, and these experiences have helped me figure out what to look for in my staples. This summer, I found 10 versatile, comfortable pieces at Amazon that are stylish, packable, and can take you from the plane or train straight to lunch and sightseeing. From plus-sized linen maxi dresses to oversized button-down blouses, these pieces have earned glowing five-star reviews from curvy shoppers just like me. Not to mention, they're all under $60. Best Plus-Size Travel Clothes at Amazon Olrik Wide-leg Trousers Amazon Yes, jeans and leggings go with everything, but when it's hot and humid out, they can be suffocating. That's why I pivot to breezy wide-leg pants for summer and transitional weather, and this plus-sized option from Olrik has a shape that's especially complementary for curvier frames. I'm planning on wearing them with sandals and a tank while it's still hot in New York City, then I'll pair them with a long-sleeve top and booties come fall. Hundreds of shoppers have chimed in on the true-to-size fit and 'professional' look of these wide-leg pants. One reviewer wrote that they're comfortable, flattering, and 'great for work in the summer' (or year-round if you live in a warm area). They loved them so much, they purchased them in several colors. Foreyond Gingham Lounge Shorts Amazon I'm obsessed with the gingham shorts trend right now. Not only is this fun pattern perfect for summer, but it's also incredibly flattering. While my current go-to gingham shorts only go up to a size 2XL, these Foreyong boxer shorts are nearly identical and go up to a size 5XL. Made with lightweight 100 percent cotton, they have a stretchy, elastic waistband and two functional pockets that are big enough to hold your lip balm, sunscreen, or sunglasses. Fireswan Crossover Athletic Shorts Amazon I will probably be buried in a pair of athletic bike shorts, considering how much I rely on them in the warmer months. But I've been wanting to expand my horizons this season, and this feminine style is calling my name. Upon first glance, these Fireswan shorts look like a twirly tennis skirt, but they're actually comfy, stretchy workout shorts in disguise. They're made from a quick-drying spandex-blend fabric and have a discreet inner layer that has a secret thigh pocket big enough to hold your phone. Eytino Short-sleeved Tracksuit Amazon This short-sleeved tracksuit, carried up to a size 5XL, is made of a light, stretchy fabric that can help you stay cool while taxiing on the tarmac, yet is cozy enough to keep you warm once the temperature has dipped mid-flight. 'I recently upgraded my travel wardrobe for long flights and bus rides across Europe, and these sets were perfect,' wrote one plus-sized traveler who purchased them in two colors. 'They were stylish, incredibly comfortable, and easy to layer.' Floerns Two-piece Matching Shorts Set Amazon I'm a huge fan of matching sets for travel; you can wear the pieces together or separately and create several outfit combinations without taking up too much room in your suitcase. And this specific matching shorts set from Floerns is sitting in my Amazon cart as I type this (Yes, I'll be checking out as soon as I'm done). It includes a short-sleeved button-down shirt with an oversized drop-shoulder, and a pair of flowy shorts that have an adjustable drawstring waistband and deep side pockets. While this jaguar print is calling my name, the set comes in eight other summer-to-fall styles, including a neutral tan shade and a multi-color tropical pattern. Ekouaer Button-down Coverup Shirt Amazon You can wear this versatile Ekoaer blouse as an oversized button-down shirt, a swimsuit cover-up, or a mini dress, making it a reliable year-round travel staple. Available in 19 colors and carried up to a size 3XL, this roomy top is made of a lightweight rayon fabric that promotes airflow, keeping you cool on hot, humid summer days and cozy when the weather chills down. One curvy reviewer wrote that it's perfect for people with 'bigger assets,' adding that it's a 'solid' choice for the beach or pool. The Drop Carlota Strapless Linen Maxi Dress Amazon This gorgeous linen maxi dress from The Drop is calling my name now that it's on sale. Not only does it come in an impressively wide range of sizes—2XS to 5XL—but it also has an effortless silhouette that suits every shape. Simple, elegant, and easy to dress up or down, the strapless dress has a stretchy ruched back panel for extra room, as well as inconspicuous side pockets. While these features are what initially piqued my interest, the selling point for me was this five-star review; the comment about the 'good quality' fabric, plus the attached selfie, affirmed my inkling that this dress would look bangin' on a curvier body. Scomchic Boho Plus-size Dress Amazon This romantic maxi dress screams 'Euro Summer,' thanks to the tiered ruffles and tie-front detail on the neckline, but it's still very easy to wear this number in the fall thanks to the wide variety of color options. On sale for just $33, the flowy sundress has a stretchy ruched waist and a moderate leg slit that's flirty but still modest. While it has only been around since this spring, it's already garnered glowing reviews from plus-sized shoppers. One reviewer who wears a 38E bra shared that it's supportive enough to make them feel like they could go braless, adding that the lightweight fabric has a 'cooling effect', perfect for hot, humid afternoons. Oyoangle Cargo Pants Amazon I try to squeeze in at least one hiking trip while traveling to a new place, regardless of the season—and I'm eyeing these breathable, roomy Oyoangle cargo pants for my next adventure. In addition to the traditional hip pockets, these cargos have an extra-large flap pocket on each thigh for additional storage. Unlike some joggers, they also have adjustable drawstring cuffs that can be loosened, transforming them into wide-leg pants. One curvy festival-goer gave them a five-star rating for their comfort, breathability, and style. Blooming Jelly Swimdress Amazon Available in a wide range of sizes (medium to 4XL), this stunning Blooming Jelly swimdress checks all of my swimwear boxes: thick, adjustable straps, tummy control, and plenty of chest support. The swimdress has earned nearly 500 five-star reviews from curvy Amazon shoppers. 'This thing is magic,' wrote one reviewer who shared that they struggled to find flattering, well-fitting swimsuits. 'It's like the sisterhood of the traveling pants, but in swimsuit form.' While it's technically swimwear, I could totally see myself wearing this with a denim jacket and a pair of slides for a date night. Love a great deal? The 12 Best Airbnbs in Milan, From Industrial Lofts to Charming Studios
The fashion, the architecture, the design, the risotto: Whatever brought you to Milan, there's a good chance it'll hook you long enough to plan a return trip before you've even checked out. More modern than Rome, more fast-paced than Florence, this industrial city is a hub for the country's fashion and financial elite alike. And while you could always book a stay at a sleek hotel, a Milanese Airbnb offers up the chance to slow down, make yourself at home, and get a taste of local life. Vogue's Favorite Airbnbs in Milan: Much like the cosmopolitan city itself, the best Airbnbs in Milan cover a lot of ground in style. There's a painter's attic nestled among the rooftops, where stained glass and wood beam ceilings make you feel like you're stepping back in time. There's an industrial duplex that leans into the contemporary edge of the newer parts of city. There's even a bohemian top-floor apartment, where overgrown greens and a glass ceiling give it the look of a grown-up treehouse. Each of these vacation rentals has its own charm.

Overnight stays in Germany hit new record in first half of 2025
Despite a drop in demand from abroad, holiday and business travel in Germany is more popular than ever. German hotels and other large accommodation providers logged a record-breaking 223.3 million overnight stays in the first half of this year, marking a 0.1% rise over the same period in 2024, according to the Federal Statistical Office on Monday. A 12.7% decline in foreign guests in June alone was attributed by statisticians to the unusually high figure a year earlier, when the European Football Championship drew fans from across the globe. The shortfall was more than offset by a 7.4% increase in overnight stays by domestic travellers, boosted by this year's late Easter holidays in April. In total, guests spent 50.5 million nights in the establishments surveyed - those with at least 10 beds - in June, up 3.8% from a year earlier. Solve the daily Crossword
