Private sector urged to help strengthen aquaculture
Vijayawada: Strengthening the aquaculture ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh demands active private sector participation and innovation," said B Rajasekhar, special chief secretary, AHDD & fisheries department, at a national conference on fisheries and aquaculture organised by CII-FACE in Vijayawada.
In his keynote address, Rajasekhar emphasised that private sector-led investments in technology, infrastructure, and value chain integration are crucial to overcome bottlenecks, expand capacity, and connect farmers to markets. "We must encourage innovation, reduce inefficiencies, and build forward linkages if we are to scale up the sector sustainably," he added.
Themed "Fostering sustainable growth & competitiveness in fisheries and aquaculture," the conference brought together industry leaders, govt officials, and development organisations.
Discussions centred on growth strategies, conservation, and innovations in marine, brackish water, and inland fisheries.
Rama Shankar Naik, commissioner of fisheries, highlighted the state's efforts to modernise cold chains and logistics. "Our policy framework welcomes long-term private investment," he noted. Dr S Kannappan of NFDB reiterated the importance of aligning state efforts with the national vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

Vijayawada: The private sector has a vital role in strengthening the aquaculture ecosystem, said B Rajsekhar, special chief secretary, animal husbandry, dairy development and fisheries. He was speaking at a national conference on 'Fostering Sustainable Growth & Competitiveness in Fisheries and Aquaculture' held here on Wednesday. The event was jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and its Food and Agriculture Centre of Excellence (FACE). Rajsekhar emphasised the need for collaboration among the government, private sector, cooperatives, startups, and development organisations to drive innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth in aquaculture. He noted the sector's critical role in the state's economy, especially in coastal Andhra Pradesh, and assured full support from the state government. Rama Shankar Naik, commissioner of fisheries, pointed to Andhra Pradesh's focus on innovative infrastructure to transform the fisheries sector. He urged greater private investment in cold chains, logistics, and processing to tap the sector's full potential, citing the state's favorable policy environment. S Narendra Kumar, vice-chairman, CII Andhra Pradesh, outlined the conference's goal to bring together stakeholders from across the fisheries value chain to strategise for sustainable growth and global competitiveness. Dr S Kannappan, senior executive director, National Fisheries Development Board, called the sector a key driver in India's 'blue economy' and stressed aligning efforts with the national vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. P Ravichandran, chairman, CII Task Force on Fisheries & Aquaculture, stressed the sector's importance in ensuring food security, generating employment, and boosting foreign exchange earnings. The conference featured three panel discussions: the first on driving growth and efficiency, focusing on PMMSY and policy support; the second on balancing conservation with industrial development; and the third on emerging trends and innovations across marine, brackish, and inland fisheries.

The convocation commenced with presentation of the annual report by Vice-Chancellor Prof K Ramji, followed by an address by Mandava Prabhakar Rao, chairman and managing director, Nuzveedu Seeds as chief guest-cum-orator, who was also conferred the Honoris Causa for 6th convocation, and presentation of degrees, gold medals and merit certificates to the students of 6th, 7th & 8th convocations. Prof MNV Ravi Kumar, distinguished university research professor, Department of Translational Science and Medicine, University of Alabama, USA, was conferred the Honoris Causa for 7th convocation, and Anil Kumar Chalamalasetty, founder and CEO of Greenko Group, was conferred the Honoris Causa for 8th convocation. Govt disburses 21k crore under PLI scheme
NEW DELHI: A total of Rs 21,534 crore has been disbursed by govt under various production-linked incentive schemes that cover sectors, such as large-scale electronics manufacturing, IT hardware, pharmaceuticals and bulk drugs, telecom and networking products and food processing. PLI schemes are under various stages of implementation across 14 key sectors and have resulted in cumulative investments of around Rs 1.8 lakh crore, that resulted in incremental production/sales of over Rs. 16.5 lakh crore, an official statement said. Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal took a review of the PLI scheme across sectors and said exports must be a critical element in the country's manufacturing plans with a clear focus on sectors, that give the country a competitive edge over competing production hubs.
