"One-sided love is not going to happen...": Owaisi rules out joining INDIA bloc for upcoming Bihar Assembly elections
Instead, Owaisi's party is exploring alternatives, including potentially forming a third front. This development comes after Owaisi's party, AIMIM, sent a proposal to join the Mahagathbandhan, led by RJD chief Lalu Yadav, but received a lukewarm response.
'One-sided love is not going to happen. The people of Bihar should understand that the accusations that were made against us were based on lies and were made because they do not want a leader of the poor and oppressed people to become their political leadership,' Owaisi while speaking to ANI.
Owaisi expressed his disinterest in joining the INDIA bloc, citing past experiences and accusations against his party as reasons for his decision. AIMIM Bihar president Akhtarul Iman has suggested forming a third front, which Owaisi seems to be considering as a viable alternative.
Owaisi has announced that AIMIM will contest the elections, focusing on the Seemanchal region, where the party has a strong presence.
Owaisi accused the INDIA bloc of not wanting a leader of the poor and oppressed to emerge, implying that they want to maintain their dominance over the people of Bihar.
'They just want you to remain their slaves, to walk behind them with your head bowed,' Owaisi added.
Positioning his party as an independent political force, Owaisi said AIMIM is prepared to contest the upcoming elections on its own terms and 'form a third front.'
He said, 'We will fight our elections well. Our president, Akhtarul Iman, has said that we should try to form a third front. This was an effort from our side. Everything has come before the people of Bihar for a reason.'
Earlier, while speaking to ANI in Hyderabad, Owaisi also questioned the Election Commission of India's (ECI) authority to determine citizenship and criticised the body for not making official statements, instead relying on anonymous sources.
He said, 'It is unfortunate that a constitutional body is not making a statement and things are being revealed through sources. Who are these sources? Who gave the ECI the power to determine whether someone is a citizen or not? Our party was the first to say that SIR is NRC through the back door.'
Supreme Court on July 10 allowed ECI to continue Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls while advising them to consider allowing Aadhaar, ration cards, and electoral photo identity cards as admissible documents to prove voter identity.
The decision of SIR comes ahead of Bihar elections which are expected to be held later this year in October or November; however, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced an official date.
While the NDA, consisting of the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, will once again be looking to continue their stint in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, consisting of the RJD, Congress, and left parties, will be looking to unseat Nitish Kumar.
In the current Bihar Assembly of 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consists of 131 with the BJP having 80 MLAs, JD(U)-45, HAM(S)-4, with the support of 2 Independent Candidates.
The Opposition's INDIA Bloc has a strength of 111 members with RJD leading with 77 MLAs, Congress-19, CPI(ML)-11, CPI(M)-2 and CPI-2. (ANI)

C'garh cops ‘kidnapped' 8 Nadia workers: Mahua
Kolkata: Eight construction workers from Nadia, engaged by a Chhattisgarh-based private construction agency to work in Bastar's Kondagaon, had been "kidnapped" by Chhattisgarh police on July 12 and put in Jagdalpur prison, Trinamool's Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra alleged on Monday. Moitra said the workers' phones were switched off and the families had lost contact with them. The MP said these extra-judicial detentions took place despite the eight having valid Aadhaar and EPIC cards. In a statement on X, Moitra said: "They have been sent to prison under 128 BNSS, earlier 109 CrPC, which allows cops to act if they suspect anyone is hiding to avoid committing a cognizable offence. But the legal provisions stipulated have been completely ignored, no hearings were given. The police detained them on July 12, and now they are in prison." "Which law allows police to detain people who are Indian citizens to work anywhere in India?" the MP said.

"NRC through back door...": AIMIM chief Owaisi slams EC over SIR in Bihar
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 14 (ANI): All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday lashed out at the Election Commission over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar, accusing the poll panel of trying to go beyond its constitutional mandate. He said the poll panel does not have a right to determine citizenship and said he had termed SIR as 'NRC through back door'. 'It is unfortunate that a constitutional body is not making a statement, and things are being revealed through sources. Who are these sources? Who gave the ECI the power to determine whether someone is a citizen or not? Our party was the first to say that SIR is NRC through the back door,' Owaisi said. He said the party members will be asked to meet BLOs (block level officers). 'SIR was conducted in 2003. How many foreign nationals were revealed at that time?' he asked. 'They (ECI) do not have the right (to determine citizenship)... The Home Ministry, SP Border have the right... Why are they doing this if they don't have the right... This is why I said that this is back door NRC... There are elections in Bihar in November. Why do they want to make the people of Seemanchal powerless...?,' he added. Supreme Court on July 10 allowed ECI to continue Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls while advising them to consider allowing Aadhaar, ration cards, and electoral photo identity cards as admissible documents to prove voter identity. The decision of SIR comes ahead of Bihar elections, which are expected to be held later this year. While the NDA, consisting of the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, will strive for another mandate in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, consisting of the RJD, Congress, and left parties, will be looking to oust Nitish Kumar government. Jan Suraaj Party is also making efforts win a mandate in the state. Posted On: 14 JUL 2025 6:47PM by PIB Delhi With 11 more days left for the last date of submission of the filled Enumeration Forms (EFs) in the ongoing Bihar SIR, Election Commission on Monday said that EFs of 6,60,67,208 or 83.66% elected have been collected after two rounds of door-to-door visits by the BLOs. Update: China, India should adhere to good-neighborliness, friendship: Chinese FM
BEIJING, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Monday that China and India should adhere to the direction of good-neighborliness and friendship, and find a way for mutual respect and trust, peaceful coexistence, common development and win-win cooperation. Wang made the remarks when holding talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Beijing. As two major Eastern civilizations and major emerging economies living adjacent to each other, the essence of China-India relations lies in how to live in harmony and achieve mutual success, said Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. Last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached important consensus during their meeting in Kazan, pointing out the direction for the improvement and development of China-India relations, Wang said. Wang called on both sides to aim high, plan for the long term, adhere to the direction of good-neighborliness and friendship, and realize the "Dragon-Elephant Tango." Wang said that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and India, and the sustained improvement and growth of bilateral relations have not come easily, making them more valuable to cherish. Noting the relationship between the two countries is not directed against any third party, nor should it be disrupted by any third party, Wang called on both sides to build mutual trust rather than suspicion, pursue cooperation rather than competition, and seek mutual success rather than mutual attrition. China is willing to work with India to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, consistently enhance political mutual trust, meet each other halfway to expand exchanges and cooperation, act with consideration for the bigger picture to properly manage differences, and strengthen coordination via multilateral platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), to promote the sustained, healthy, and steady development of China-India relations, Wang said. Wang said that President Xi proposed the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, and Prime Minister Modi advocated that "the world is one family," noting that these concepts are interrelated. Both sides support multilateralism and hope that the international order will develop in a more just and reasonable direction, Wang said. He added that China is willing to enhance communication and coordination with India, and jointly safeguard the multilateral trading system, the stability of the global industrial and supply chains, and an international environment of openness and cooperation. China is willing to work with India to promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and safeguard the common interests of the Global South to promote regional peace, stability, development and prosperity, Wang said. For his part, Jaishankar said that the Kazan meeting between the leaders of the two countries has provided important guidance for India-China relations, with bilateral exchanges and cooperation across various fields being normalized. He also expressed the appreciation for China's facilitation of the resumption of Indian pilgrimages to China's Xizang. Noting that India and China are development partners, not rivals, the Indian foreign minister said India is willing to view its relations with China from a long-term perspective, take the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to focus on common interests, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, enhance people-to-people exchanges, and jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in the border regions. He called on both sides to work on positive factors in the bilateral relationship, so that the differences will not escalate into disputes, and competition will not turn into conflict. As India and China are important neighbors, populous countries, and major global economies, their relations carry regional and global significance, said Jaishankar. He added that India adheres to strategic autonomy and pursues an independent foreign policy. India stands ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China at the multilateral level to promote a multipolar world, Jaishankar noted. He also said that India fully supports China in successfully hosting the SCO summit as its rotating chair.
