BBC News14 hours ago
A motor racing circuit in Kent has been granted planning permission to expand its operation.Buckmore Park in Chatham has been given the go-ahead to create The Paddock, a new motorsport-themed centre, on a disused section of its karting circuit. The owners can now progress their plans to invest in a new 20,000 sq ft (1,850 sq m) building with state-of-the-art simulator room, a restaurant and bar, and a viewing terrace overlooking the circuit.Managing director Phil Ling said: "We've got a lot of potential as a venue here. We host many karting championships and in the area the people who enjoy motorsport want somewhere to go and socialise to be even more involved in the sport."
With Formula One celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, Buckmore Park can lay claim to launching the careers of many motor racing drivers.Sir Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Lando Norris have all competed at the Kent karting circuit.Buckmore Park began its Driver Development programme last August with the aim of taking young driving talent to the next level, covering one-on-one coaching, mechanics and finance."We're in the early stages but one of the participants has gone on to do further work experience with us which shows the many facets of the industry," Mr Ling added. The Paddock is scheduled to open in 2027 with extra team briefing areas built within the hospitality and driver development venue.

Edu appointment pushes Forest closer to elite goal

Edu's appointment as Nottingham Forest's global head of football is further evidence of their plans for expansion. We have seen them tie down key members of the squad - including Monday's announcement of Ola Aina's new contract - but there is no bigger signing than Edu's arrival. He has been in the background for a number of months and was at Wembley for Forest's FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City in April. The former midfielder will oversee the operations at Forest, Olympiakos and Rio Ave and should be seen as a huge coup. The ex-Brazil international, a member of Arsenal's 'Invincibles', was key to the Gunners' post-Arsene Wenger era, even if Mikel Arteta has only delivered one FA Cup five years ago. Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Gabriel and Declan Rice joined under his watch but so did £72m Nicolas Pepe, David Luiz and Raheem Sterling, all three failing to justify themselves at the Emirates Stadium. Owner Evangelos Marinakis will expect Forest to continue their trajectory after last season's seventh place finish in the Premier League and there will be a desire to challenge Arsenal at the top, with the Gunners finishing second last provides experience from the elite, which is exactly where Forest want to be.

Nottingham Forest announce appointment of former Arsenal sporting director Edu Gasper as Global Head of Football

Nottingham Forest have officially announced the appointment of Edu Gaspar as their Global Head of Football. The former Arsenal sporting director takes up a newly established leadership role overseeing football operations for the Reds. There was a degree of shock among Arsenal fans back in November when Mail Sport broke the news that the former midfielder would be leaving his role at the Emirates. Edu was responsible for capturing key signings such as Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice and in leading Arsenal's strong performance in recruitment and delivering key players to the club. He is credited with playing a big role in Arsenal's return to competitiveness in recent years. It was quickly revealed that Edu was poised to link up with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis with discussions ongoing. And that has now been confirmed with Forest announcing the news on their website. 'Edu brings a wealth of global football experience, both as a former elite player and a highly respected executive,' the club wrote. 'Since transitioning into football management in 2011, Edu has held senior roles at SC Corinthians Paulista, the Brazilian National Team, and most recently, Arsenal FC, where he has earned widespread acclaim for his innovative and strategic approach to modern football operations. Among his playing achievements are: 'During his time with Brazil as General Coordinator, Edu played a pivotal role in helping the national team lift their first Copa América for 12 years in 2019. 'As Global Head of Football, Edu will oversee all football-related functions, including recruitment, performance, squad strategy, and player development. Edu commented: 'I'm truly excited about this new chapter and honoured by the trust placed in me. This project connects deeply with my values around innovation and long-term planning. I look forward to building a global football model that is competitive, sustainable, and aligned with our President's ambition.' President Evangelos Marinakis added: 'We are extremely happy to welcome Edu to our football family. His global experience, values, and winning mindset align perfectly with our objective to strengthen and expand our international football platform.'
