Supreme Pogacar wins Tour de France for fourth time

Yahoo27-07-2025
Tadej Pogacar closed out a supreme 21-day performance to win the Tour de France in Paris on Sunday, crushing his rivals in the 3,400km slog to rack up a fourth title.
Wout van Aert won the final-day cliffhanger on the cobbled roads of Montmartre, but Pogacar was spared any late challenge when rain forced times to be neutralised, but he gamely tried for the stage win anyway before Van Aert dropped him on the last climb.
Pogacar was clearly enjoying himself as he played to the delighted crowds, racing to the head of the peloton near the Moulin Rouge cabaret at the foot of the climb.
Huge crowds packed the old neighbourhood to follow his progress up and down the narrow lanes of the popular tourist spot in his leader's yellow outfit.
Belgian Van Aert produced a well-timed attack to drop Pogacar and charge to the Champs-Elysees finish line, for his second last-day stage win there.
Pogacar was fourth on the day but after wins in 2020, 2021 and 2024, he proved untouchable again in the world's greatest bike race.
Jonas Vingegaard, the winner in 2022 and 2023, suffered two shocking off-days and ended second overall, 4min 24sec adrift.
Breakout German star Florian Lipowitz took third on his debut, rounding out the podium a distant 11 minutes off the pace in third.

Burnley close to securing transfer of talented French midfielder from Chelsea

Burnley close to securing transfer of talented French midfielder from Chelsea originally appeared on The Sporting News Burnley are remaining busy in the transfer market as the newly promoted Premier League club are close to bringing in another summer signing. The Clarets' busy transfer activity has seen 10 permanent deals go through, and so far looks to be giving Scott Parker every possible chance to keep his side up next season. However, last season's Championship runners-up had yet to officially address the midfield area. Doing so would have been a priority after previous skipper, Josh Brownhill, recently left the club. Now, the club is making positive moves in that area of the pitch as a deal to sign Chelsea's Lesley Ugochukwu is at an advanced stage. The Frenchman looks poised to join Burnley for a fee worth over £20m and is set to have his medical imminently. Upon passing his medical tests, the 21-year-old will commit to a five-year contract with The Clarets and ultimately give Parker more options in the defensive and central midfield areas. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Getty After breaking through at Rennes, Ugochukwu moved to Chelsea two years ago for £23.1m and signed a seven-year contract. However, he only played 12 league games for Chelsea and was shipped out to Southampton on loan last season. The French Under-21 international will be hoping his career can stabilise upon playing under Parker and he can showcase his ability which earned him the move to Chelsea in 2023. Burnley's summer business has now involved multiple dealings with Chelsea. Striker, Armando Broja, is set to join The Clarets for a similar fee to the Ugochukwu deal, and left-back, Bashir Humphreys, has joined for £10m after spending last season on loan with Parker's side. Burnley supporters will be hoping that Ugochukwu and Broja will be up and running in time for the club's first Premier League fixture of the season away to Tottenham Hotspur on August 16. Ugochukwu is one of three midfielders that Chelsea are close to moving on at this moment. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is set to depart to Everton for around £28m, while a potential permanent sale for Carney Chukwuemeka to Borussia Dortmund is being discussed after the midfielder spent last season on loan at the Bundesliga club. Derrick White on Las Vegas Summer League, Olympics with his Boston Celtics teammates

The second episode of Boston Celtics point guard Derrick White is out. In the newest episode of the "White Noise" podcast, the University of Colorado - Boulder alum and his cohost Welsh took a deep dive into what White did last summer at the 2024 Paris Olympics on his way to winning a gold medal with the US National Team (and how he missed his own epic birthday bash in Baja California to do it). They also touch on Las Vegas Summer League and what it is like to play in it vs. attend as an established player or fan in the bleachers, meeting Deion Sanders at a Buffaloes game, and even a premature welcome for now-traded forward Georges Niang to the Celtics. They even get into the fact that White still has never gotten a technical foul in the NBA, and why at least one of his teammates in Boston won't fully respect him until he does. Check it out below!
