Silver Ferns captain Ameliaranne Ekenasio has made herself unavailable for this year's internationals.
"I need this break-for my mind, body, and spirit," Ekenasio said in a statement.
Ekenasio has taken time out before, including missing the Nations Cup in 2023.
Since making her debut in 2014, 34-year-old Ekenasio has worn the black dress 79 times, playing a key role in New Zealand's 2019 Netball World Cup triumph and captaining the team to victory in the 2021 and 2024 Constellation Cup series, along with multiple Taini Jamison Trophy wins.
She was named Silver Ferns captain in 2021 and returned to the role after the birth of her second child.
Ekenasio said her decision wasn't easy.
"It's been an amazing journey, but now it's time to listen to what I need personally and take space to reset."
Coach Dame Noeline Taurua will be hoping the
new player eligibility ruling will see Grace Nweke available for selection
, otherwise she would be without two key players in the attacking circle.

However, Dame Noeline acknowledges Ekenasio's decision.
"I've always supported athletes in making decisions that are right for them and I fully respect Ameliaranne's choice to step away from the international stage at this time," she said.
"As a mother and wife, supporting a growing family, alongside the demands of being a high-performance athlete and carrying significant leadership responsibilities, the load can be immense.
"I personally understand that sometimes being everything to everyone simply isn't sustainable".
Taurua said Ekenasio would be missed this year, but looks forward to welcoming Ameliaranne back when she is ready.
The Silver Ferns play a series against South Africa in September, before the Constellation Cup series with Australia in October.

Kiwi Erika Fairweather disqualified from world 400m freestyle title defence
Erika Fairweather narrowly missed bronze at the Paris Olympics. Photo: Photosport Reigning world champion Erica Fairweather has seen her 400m freestyle title defence derailed, when she was disqualified for breaking after her heat in Singapore. The Kiwi swimmer clocked 4m 03.39s, finishing fourth in the third heat, which would have seen her safely through to the final, but she had her performance scrubbed out for allegedly flinching on the starting block before the gun. Her time would have been the sixth fastest in qualifying. Disqualifications in swimming are rare. Fairweather, 21, captured the title at Doha last year in 3m 59.44s, as superstars Ariarne Titmus (Australia), Katie Ledecky (USA) and Summer McIntosh (Canada). She would later finish fourth behind that trio at the Paris Olympics, just 0.26s behind Ledecky for bronze. Ledecky and McIntosh will contest the title , but Olympic champion Titmus has bypassed the meet, while fifth-ranked American Claire Weinstein has also withdrawn from the event. Fairweather is also entered for the 200m freestyle, where she won silver last year, with heats scheduled for Tuesday. ANZ Premiership final: Live updates as the Northern Mystics host the Mainland Tactix at Trusts Arena
The Northern Mystics and Mainland Tactix will meet for a third time this season in front of a sold-out Trusts Arena crowd to determine the 2025 ANZ Premiership title. Netball NZ update eligibility laws, opens door for overseas-based Silver Ferns The Netball New Zealand (NNZ) board has voted to update the eligibility criteria for national selection, allowing players based overseas to be available for the Silver Ferns. After reviewing the criteria, NNZ has introduced a formal exemption process to adapt to the changing face of the sport. Players presently choose between higher-paying opportunities overseas, or remaining in Aotearoa – where they can be eligible for the Silver Ferns. The new criteria will come into effect before this year's international netball season, with what the national organisation has described as 'clear guidelines and assessment measures for any exemption applications'. 'We've listened to the game and believe this is a positive step forward,' said NNZ board chair Matt Whineray. 'This update strikes a balance between flexibility and fairness, acknowledging the increasingly global nature of netball while continuing to protect the integrity of our domestic competitions and the mana of the Silver Ferns.' Players wanting to remain eligible for national selection while based overseas will need to go through a formal process, although the updated criteria has not been made available. 'Ultimately, the purpose of this proposed process is to ensure that all exemption requests are evaluated fairly, consistently, and transparently,' said NNZ chief executive Jennie Wyllie. 'It safeguards the athlete through a structured and transparent approach, while upholding the broader interests of Netball New Zealand, the Silver Ferns, and the ANZ Premiership competition.' NNZ has said the updated criteria will not be made public, adding to what has been a murky saga regarding overseas players' availability. Earlier this year, Silver Ferns captain Ameliaranne Ekenasio told Newstalk ZB that players must have 100 test caps to be eligible for an exemption to play offshore and still play in international fixtures. Australian-based Grace Nweke confirmed the same to Fox Sports - saying it was Netball NZ's 'black and white' rule. However, a spokesperson for the national body has clarified no such 100-test rule exists, and each case was at the board's discretion. In the time since, multiple players have expressed to Newstalk ZB that they have been forced to choose between overseas offers – largely out of Australia – and remaining in NZ and the ANZ Premiership.
