The AIADMK government was voted out because it was against farmers: Stalin

The Hindua day ago

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said on Wednesday that farmers had voted out the previous AIADMK government because it had acted against their interests.
At the inauguration of a two-day agricultural exhibition organised by the Department of Horticulture and Plantation Crops near the Vijayamangalam toll gate at Perundurai, he said the AIADMK had supported three controversial farm laws introduced by the Union government and betrayed farmers in every possible way. 'Such political weeds must be uprooted from the country,' he said.
Mr. Stalin said 128 'Uzhavar Sandhais' were closed when the AIADMK was in power. After the DMK assumed office, these markets were revived and 16 new ones were established to boost the incomes of farmers. 'Unlike the previous rulers, the Dravidian Model government will always protect your interests. Our 2.0 government will return after the next election,' he said.
He said the State government's schemes helped to produce a record 458 lakh metric tonnes of grain over four years, with productivity rising from 2,735 kg a hectare in 2020-21 to 2,871 kg a hectare in 2024-25. He attributed this growth to the State's first-ever dedicated agriculture budget.
Mr. Stalin said ₹62,352 crore had been disbursed in crop loans and free electricity connections had been given to 1.87 lakh farmers so far, against the target of 2 lakh. 'We have spent ₹26,523 crore on free electricity supply alone,' he said. Without naming anyone, he added, 'We're not fake farmers who wear towels on their shoulders; we are the first to stand in solidarity with farmers.' The State, he said, gave away ₹1,630 crore in compensation for crop damage and ₹5,720 crore to 32 lakh farmers under the crop insurance scheme in the past four years.
He also listed the key projects implemented in Erode: the Turmeric Research Station, the renovation of the Lower Bhavani Project Canal, the construction of eight check-dams across the Bhavani, and the implementation of the Athikadavu-Avinashi Project.
Mr. Stalin inaugurated 16 projects completed at a cost of ₹15.70 crore, laid the foundation for 11 projects costing ₹159.53 crore, and distributed ₹25.41 crore in welfare assistance to 4,524 beneficiaries.
Ministers E.V. Velu, M.R.K. Panneerselvam, S. Muthusamy, M.P. Saminathan, and N. Kayalvizhi Selvaraj; MPs and MLAs; Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara; and officials were present.

CM exhorts students to protect public property

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday exhorted students to protect public property, saying these are collective assets and damaging them harm the nation. "Do not damage national property. If someone is doing so, stop them. If you feel powerless, report it. Share a photo, we will handle the rest and recover the damages. Public property is national property and a collective responsibility," he said. He was speaking during a function to felicitate meritorious students, who excelled in state and national board exams, and the 68th National School Sports Competition 2024-25 held in Ranchi this Jan. Speaking about the transformation of education in UP, Yogi said over the past 8 years, the condition and working of schools and secondary education has changed dramatically. "Before 2017, basic education was in decline and secondary education was marred by widespread cheating. Earlier govts introduced two major 'businesses' in UP, one of cheating and the other of transfer-posting. Exam centres were operated on a wholesale basis for cheating. External candidates filled out forms, and someone else appeared in their place for the exams. Simultaneously, transfer and posting became an entire industry. The BJP govt cracked down on these industries and brought in fair practices," he said. Yogi added that at exam centres, various mechanisms like CCTV surveillance, boundary walls, adequate infrastructure, and proper furniture, have been put in place to prevent cheating. "Exams that used to stretch over two to three months are now completed within 13-14 days," he said. Highlighting the state of recruitment in the state, the CM said over 8 lakh were given govt jobs across sectors. On June 15, 60,244 police personnel will be receiving appointment letters in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah. Among these, over 12,000 are women. Calling the result of the Board exams "surprising" where girls performed better than boys, the CM awarded Rs 1,00,000 in cash, a tablet, a certificate of appreciation, and a medal to students who ranked in the merit list. At the district level, meritorious students received Rs 21,000 in cash, a tablet, a certificate, and a medal. To the gold medalists of the National School Sports Competition, the govt awarded Rs 75,000 to gold winners, Rs 50,000 to silver and Rs 30,000 to bronze medalists. In team events, the prize money was Rs 35,000 for gold, Rs 25,000 for silver, and Rs 15,000 for bronze. The CM also laid the foundation stone for the new buildings of the UP Secondary Sanskrit Education Council, established in 2001, and its directorate. The new complex will cost Rs over 42 crore and will include a Sanskrit library, facilities for training, conversation and other programmes. A new building for the Government Girls Intermediate College will be constructed on Jagat Narayan Road in Lucknow under 'Project Alankar' at an outlay of Rs 48.92 crore. Alos, the govt has allocated Rs 10.36 crore for a new building of Government Girls Inter College, Malihabad. Around Rs 20 crore is being spent on two new Sanskrit schools with hostels in Chandauli and Bhadohi. The CM also announced an MoU between the secondary education department, Tata Nelco, and Japan's Yaskawa under which students will have the opportunity of learning skills along with academics. Under this initiative, the govt will establish design, robotics, and electronics labs in govt secondary schools, with an investment of Rs 162.72 crore. Based on the 'Hub and Spoke' model, one institution will house the lab and be connected with three other institutions. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Temperature was so high due to burning fuel that there was no chance to save anyone: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah Thursday said that the temperature in the Air India plane which crashed in Ahmedabad was so high due to burning fuel that there was no chance to save people. 'There was 1.25 lakh litre of fuel inside the plane and it caught fire so it was impossible to save anyone,' Shah said, adding that the Ministry of Civil Aviation has initiated a probe. Shah was speaking hours after visiting the aircraft crash site and the hospital where the victims are admitted, On Thursday afternoon, after coming to know about the incident, Shah first made a call to the Gujarat Chief Minister, their Home Minister, Civil Aviation department and officials of the civil department. Later in the evening, he left for Ahmedabad and visited the aircraft crash site as well the hospital where victims were taken. 'The number of those killed will be officially released by the authorities after completing the DNA test and identification of the victims. The DNA sampling process for relatives who have reached the incident site will be completed within the next two–three hours. Families whose relatives are abroad have already been informed, and their DNA samples will be taken upon arrival,' Shah said. 'The Gujarat's Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) will jointly complete the DNA testing in the shortest possible time, after which the bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their families,' he added. Shah expressed condolences to relatives of those killed in the accident. 'The entire nation is shocked by the unfortunate incident involving Air India flight number AI-171. All citizens of the country stand in solidarity with the families of the passengers who were affected by this tragedy. On behalf of the Government of India, the Government of Gujarat, and the Hon'ble Prime Minister, I express deep condolences to all those who lost their lives,' he said. Shah said the good news is that one person survived the crash and he met with him. 'I want to say one thing: it was an accident and no one stopped any accident. But for 365 days, the alertness of all concerned departments will be checked during such incidents. And today, the alertness of the disaster management of the State government was checked in an unfortunate incident. The Centre and the Government of Gujarat are jointly engaged in relief and rescue operations,' he said. Shah said immediately after the incident, the State government alerted all disaster management units, including the Health Department, Fire Brigade, Police Department, and also involved the CAPF units. 'All agencies jointly began relief and rescue efforts. All necessary arrangements have been made for the accommodation, mental support, and trauma care of the affected family members,' he added. Air India plane had 1.25 lakh litres of fuel, intensity of flames made it impossible to save people—Amit Shah

Confirming details of the ill-fated flight, Shah added, 'This aircraft had a total of 230 passengers—both domestic and international—and 12 crew members on board. Among them, we have received the positive news that one passenger has survived. I have met him.' 'Air India flight number AI-171 has crashed. There is a possibility that many passengers died in this incident. The entire nation is in shock because of this tragic accident and stands united in deep solidarity with the families of those affected,' Shah said while addressing the media. New Delhi: Hours after the catastrophic crash of Air India flight AI-171 near Ahmedabad, Union Home Minister Amit Shah landed in Gujarat to take stock of the situation. The crash, which claimed the lives of nearly all 242 onboard, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members, marks one of the worst civil aviation disasters in India in over a decade. 'The official number of deceased will only be confirmed after DNA testing and identification by authorities. But yes, I have met the surviving passenger,' Shah said. He also said that both the Centre and the state government responded to the tragedy swiftly. 'Within just 10 minutes of the accident, the Government of India received information. I immediately got in touch with the chief minister, the home minister, the home department control room, the civil aviation department, and the civil aviation minister. The Prime Minister also called immediately.' Adding, 'All departments of the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat began coordinated relief and rescue operations without delay.' The survivor's story, though yet to be fully known, has emerged as a symbol of hope amid overwhelming loss. The rest of the rescue and recovery process, however, remains grim. The home minister detailed the coordinated multi-agency response initiated in the immediate aftermath. 'Immediately after the incident, the Gujarat government activated all disaster management units—be it the health department, the fire brigade, or the police department…also coordinated with the CAPF. All agencies worked together to begin relief and rescue operations,' he said. Yet, the intensity of the fire left by the crash was a near-insurmountable barrier. 'Since there were over 1.25 lakh litres of fuel in the aircraft, the temperature rose to such extreme levels that there was no opportunity to rescue anyone,' he explained. After visiting the crash site, Shah offered a situational update: 'The task of retrieving the deceased bodies of the passengers is nearly complete. DNA collection from family members who have already arrived here will be completed in two to three hours.' Efforts to notify and involve next of kin overseas have also been completed, he said, adding, 'For passengers with relatives abroad, information has already been conveyed. Once they arrive, their DNA samples will also be collected. DNA collection from the recovered bodies is also complete.' Shah underscored that Gujarat is equipped to handle the task. 'Around 1,000 DNA tests will need to be conducted here in Gujarat itself. Gujarat has the capacity to conduct all these tests, so there is no need to send samples outside the state. Gujarat's Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the National Forensic Science University will together complete the testing as quickly as possible, so that the bodies can be handed over to the families.' Apart from identification, the human cost of the tragedy is being addressed through logistical and medical support. 'All arrangements have been made for accommodation, emotional support, and medical care for those who are experiencing trauma or distress due to the tragedy,' he said. A review meeting held earlier in the day helped assess ongoing operations, Shah pointed out. 'In today's review meeting, all the ministers jointly examined the arrangements. The aviation Department has started its investigation. The civil aviation minister has also assured that the inquiry will move forward quickly.' Recognizing the efforts of first responders, Shah added, 'Once again, I want to thank all the agencies involved in rescue and relief for their swift response.' Shah further said that accidents cannot be prevented entirely. 'I must say this—accidents cannot be prevented entirely. But the readiness of an administration is truly tested in moments like this. And today, Gujarat's disaster management preparedness, though tested under tragic circumstances, has proven itself. The efficiency and speed with which the teams have worked have been seen not only by the nation but also by the media and the grieving families.' (Edited by Amrtansh Arora) Also Read: 'Goodbye India.
