IBM opens ecosystem incubation centre in Kochi

KOCHI: US tech giant IBM on Tuesday announced the launch of its Ecosystem Incubation Centre (EIC) in Kochi, a strategic space designed to accelerate innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration across startups, enterprises, and academia. The Centre will serve as a hub for early-stage ventures, skill-building, and co-innovation, positioning Kochi as a rising destination for deep tech.
The EIC, located at Infopark, Kakkanad, will offer structured support to Kerala's innovation ecosystem through a range of initiatives that will serve as a launchpad for the next generation of innovators. These include quarterly meetups with IBM Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), hands-on mentorship and guidance for developing proof-of-concepts (PoCs), technical workshops, hackathons and integration with academic curriculum for continuous learning and upskilling.
Kochi is home to IBM's Software Lab, which plays a crucial role in building the company's AI and automation solutions. The Centre will build upon the Generative AI Innovation Centre already established in the lab and will carry forward the momentum from the co-hosted Gen AI Conclave in 2024.
Inaugurating the IBM incubation centre, Industries Minister P Rajeeve said the Kerala government will explore the possibilities of using artificial intelligence, including GenAI, to simplify the state administration's day-to-day operations for the benefit of the people.
'Kerala has a progressive social climate that encourages free thinking and scientific consciousness. So there is great potential for innovation,' he said.

Courses That Create Real Traders, Not Theoretical Experts At the core of the academy's curriculum is the Professional Trader Course -- a performance-based and practical program with: * Equity, Futures & Options, and Commodity Trading * Intraday Strategies and Technical Analysis * Live market exposure and three months of live handholding * Lifetime mentorship and access to the community The academy is different because it has live trading labs, interactive Zoom sessions, and a hybrid learning environment that brings together in-person and online learning, allowing learners nationwide to acquire market-ready skills at their convenience. National Presence, Growing Recognition Mallinath's teaching methodology has gained industry attention. He recently spoke at the India Retail Investor Expo in Hyderabad, delivering insights on Stock Market Trends for 2024. Notably, the academy also provides scholarships to financially strapped students, demonstrating that inclusivity is not just a buzzword for this founder. The Road Ahead: Regional Growth & Smart Learning With a digital-first approach, Mulage is strategizing the academy's next phase of expansion: * Tier-2 and tier-3 city expansion * Introduction of courses in regional languages * Partnerships with colleges and universities * Infusion of AI-based smart learning tools for feedback and monitoring The Verdict: A New Era of Trading Literacy In a nation where financial literacy remains in its infancy, The Safe Trader Academy is at the forefront of creating confident, independent, and well-educated traders. Mallinath Mulage's shift from the corporate cubicle to the classroom of trading is a testament to the force of passion, purpose, and persistence in making a lasting difference. For all those wanting to start or upgrade their trading experience, this is not an academy -- it's a revolution for financially empowered India.

Govt. to explore GenAI to simplify administration

The State government will explore the possibilities of using artificial intelligence (AI), including GenAI, to simplify the State administration's day-to-day operations for the benefit of the people, Industries Minister P. Rajeeve said here on Tuesday (July 15). Kerala, he said, has a progressive social climate that encourages free thinking and scientific consciousness. So, there is great potential for innovation, he observed after inaugurating IBM's Ecosystem Incubation Center (EIC) at Infopark Kochi. The EIC has been conceived as a strategic space designed to accelerate innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration across start-ups, enterprises, and academia, while serving as a hub for early-stage ventures, skill-building, and co-innovation. Emphasising the need for a 'clear understanding and consultation' ahead of introducing AI in the government's daily operations, Mr. Rajeeve said its implementation would not compromise on privacy and data security. 'This kind of a change will be very beneficial to the people,' he pointed out. The Minister recalled that the government had prepared a draft proposal called 'Industry 4.0' for the introduction of AI in the industrial sector. 'We will take a decision on this after receiving feedback from the industry,' he added. Kerala has 16 colleges that have made it to the top 100 colleges in the country. Three universities are in the top 20, the Minister pointed out. Mr. Rajeeve also inaugurated a symposium 'GenAI and Agentic AI for start-ups, academia, and enterprises'. IBM Software senior vice president Dinesh Nirmal said Kerala enjoyed an advantage in the availability of skills and operational excellence. The State's transport connectivity is 'excellent' compared to other places, he said, noting that the incubation centre was started to 'fully utilise the excellent IT ecosystem' in Kerala. 'By collaborating with organisations such as the Kerala Startup Mission, Infopark, Technopark, and the academia, we aim to scale the development of impactful software solutions to solve our clients' hybrid cloud and AI needs,' he added. Principal Secretary (Industries) A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, KSIDC Managing Director Mir Mohammed Ali, IBM India vice president Vishal Chahal, Infopark CEO Susanth Kurunthil, and representatives of industry associations attended the event.

Karnataka eyes $20 billion quantum economy; aims to outpace southern rivals

Academy Empower your mind, elevate your skills Aiming to ride the quantum wave in India and challenging other southern states, Karnataka is set to launch its ' Quantum Action Plan ,' which will focus on research, manufacturing, education, and industry support. The state's science and technology minister, NS Boseraju, told ET that though the technology is very nascent in India, Karnataka sees it as a big opportunity and is ready to provide the necessary incentives for startups and researchers.'We want to build a quantum advantage-driven economy by 2035. Through this initiative, the state will target $20 billion in economic value creation over the next decade,' he said ahead of the two-day Quantum India Bengaluru Summit to be held from July Andhra Pradesh's Amaravati is looking to become the quantum innovation hub , Karnataka has the edge with its strong tech base and infrastructure, Boseraju said. The neighbouring state announced the Amaravati Quantum Valley Declaration earlier in July. Under the initiative, Andhra Pradesh will develop a 50-acre Quantum Valley Tech Park built by L&T. The project aims to host India's first major quantum computing environment by IBM's 156-qubit Quantum System Two by early 2026.'Other states are now beginning to show interest, but we are ahead in this effort. We've already partnered with IISc and allocated land to support niche work in this domain,' the minister said, referring to the state cabinet's clearance of the second phase of the Quantum Research Park worth ₹48 not to miss the quantum bus the way it did with semiconductors, the government said it is actively identifying and securing land around Bengaluru to provide all the infrastructure entrepreneurs may need. 'Unlike other states that focus only on service centres, Karnataka wants to own the tech, intellectual property, and production,' the science and tech minister department will be holding a high-level meeting on Wednesday with the ministers for industries, IT/BT, and higher education, along with entrepreneurs. 'One of the agenda points is about quantum-specific IP frameworks, startup schemes, and whether we need a separate research fund or quantum fellowship programme,' Boseraju said. He added that the government is aware that quantum research requires significant patient capital for wants to leverage quantum technology for health and education. 'We already spend a significant amount on education and healthcare. By integrating quantum technologies, we hope to build better infrastructure and improve access, especially for the common man,' Boseraju said.
