Trinity Christian bows out of state softball tournament with pair of defeats on Wednesday
The Warriors fell 12-0 to top-ranked Pendleton County Wednesday morning before a defeat to Greenbrier West 8-3 in an elimination game that evening.
Trinity Christian sees its campaign come to a close, having qualified for the first state tournament appearance in program history as champions of Region I.
In the opening game of the day, Pendleton County flexed its muscles with an all-around victory over TCS. The Warriors only tallied three hits and committed five errors in the contest.
Pendleton lead off batter Avery Townsend went 3 for 3 with two doubles, four RBI, and four runs scored. Pitcher Baylee Beachler homered in the first inning to give Pendleton an early 2-0 lead. She also added four RBI for her team in the game. Peyton Moore, Jocelyn Phillips, and Arlie Humphries were the Warriors to earn hits.
Despite the decisive loss in Game 1, TCS returned for Game 2 against Greenbrier West with confidence and took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning in the game.
However, the Cavaliers managed to score two in the bottom half of the same inning and didn't surrender the lead from that point, eventually defeating TCS 8-3.
Phillips and Moore each totaled three hits in the elimination game, with Phillips accounting for three RBI and two doubles.
The Cavaliers managed 15 hits against TCS to score their eight runs and advance to Day 2.
The Warriors' season comes to an end at 13-12, winners of five of their final seven games, including five in a row in postseason play to make the state tournament.

It's a good thing for the Jets that the annual preseason game against the Giants no longer has the Snoopy trophy up for grabs. On Saturday night, the Giants won easily, 31-12. The word of the night for first-year head coach Aaron Glenn was 'sloppy.' That's what he said at halftime, and that's what he said after the game. Sloppy. Undisciplined. The search for a second receiver that Fields trusts didn't gain any clarity, but Brandon Smith might have earned a bigger opportunity when he made four catches for 31 yards in the first half from backup quarterback Adrian Martinez. No wonder then that when the Jets faced a third-and-8 at their own-30-yard line — a passing situation under most NFL circumstances — the call was a draw to 235-pound back Braelon Allen, who powered his way to an 11-yard gain. It's clear that's not going to be the case again with the Jets, who didn't have Isaiah Davis available due to injury. The Bears and Steelers averaged 153.1 rushing yards per game during Fields' first 44 career starts, according to ESPN. Advertisement NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky believes the Jets will have no worse than a top-five rushing attack while Fields also utilizes his backs on screen passes. Rookie QB Jaxson Dart stars in his home preseason debut as the Giants beat the Jets 31-12
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Getting snaps with the first-team offense, then throwing for a touchdown and running for another with the backups, Jaxson Dart shined in his new home stadium debut for the New York Giants as part of a 31-12 victory against the Jets on Saturday night in each team's second preseason game. The rookie first-round pick whom the Giants envision as their long-term franchise quarterback got a chance to show a little bit of how he could contribute in the near future by subbing in for starter Russell Wilson mid-drive and connecting with Theo Johnson on a 30-yard pass. Dart capped a 71-yard second half-opening drive with a TD throw to Greg Dulcich and scored on a goal-line sneak to finish another after completing 13 consecutive passes. Dart was 14 of 16 for 137 yards, delivering on the hype under the lights at MetLife Stadium before giving way to Jameis Winston. Wilson had his own highlight, throwing his so-called 'moon ball' to undrafted free agent Beaux Collins for an 80-yard gain.
