Trinity Christian bows out of state softball tournament with pair of defeats on Wednesday
The Warriors fell 12-0 to top-ranked Pendleton County Wednesday morning before a defeat to Greenbrier West 8-3 in an elimination game that evening.
Trinity Christian sees its campaign come to a close, having qualified for the first state tournament appearance in program history as champions of Region I.
In the opening game of the day, Pendleton County flexed its muscles with an all-around victory over TCS. The Warriors only tallied three hits and committed five errors in the contest.
Pendleton lead off batter Avery Townsend went 3 for 3 with two doubles, four RBI, and four runs scored. Pitcher Baylee Beachler homered in the first inning to give Pendleton an early 2-0 lead. She also added four RBI for her team in the game. Peyton Moore, Jocelyn Phillips, and Arlie Humphries were the Warriors to earn hits.
Despite the decisive loss in Game 1, TCS returned for Game 2 against Greenbrier West with confidence and took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning in the game.
However, the Cavaliers managed to score two in the bottom half of the same inning and didn't surrender the lead from that point, eventually defeating TCS 8-3.
Phillips and Moore each totaled three hits in the elimination game, with Phillips accounting for three RBI and two doubles.
The Cavaliers managed 15 hits against TCS to score their eight runs and advance to Day 2.
The Warriors' season comes to an end at 13-12, winners of five of their final seven games, including five in a row in postseason play to make the state tournament.

Aaron Glenn: Jets "sloppy" offense "wasn't good enough" vs. Giants
It's a good thing for the Jets that the annual preseason game against the Giants no longer has the Snoopy trophy up for grabs. On Saturday night, the Giants won easily, 31-12. The word of the night for first-year head coach Aaron Glenn was 'sloppy.' That's what he said at halftime, and that's what he said after the game. Sloppy. Undisciplined. Specifically asked about quarterback Justin Field, Glenn said this, via Rich Cimini of 'I don't want to say the same thing over and over. Our offense, in general, wasn't good enough.' Fields completed one of five passes for only four yards. He had one rushing attempt for five yards. He handled two drives, resulting in a punt and a field goal. There's no quarterback competition for the Jets, where Fields is the unquestioned starter. Especially with Tyrod Taylor currently injured. Still, at some point, sloppiness will have consequences.

Jets' obvious identity for shaky offense on display during preseason loss to Giants
Take flight with the Jets Text with Brian Costello all season as he brings Sports+ subscribers the latest Jets intel from on the field and off. tRY IT NOW It would have been less obvious who the Jets plan to be on offense this season if coordinator Tanner Engstrand just shared snapshots from his playbook on the MetLife Stadium video board. After giving up an early touchdown to the Giants on Saturday in their annual preseason matchup, the Jets ran the ball on each of the first 10 plays of a scoring drive, including one scramble by Justin Fields on a called pass. Advertisement Of course, Fields' legs are a bigger strength than his arm, so that will be a possible offshoot of almost every dropback this season. When Fields finally uncorked a pass, on third-and-2, it was to a tightly covered Garrett Wilson — who else? — and broken up for an incompletion as the Jets settled for three points on the second and last series for their offensive starters. 5 Justin Fields runs with the ball during the Jets' 31-12 preseason loss to the Giants at MetLife Stadium on Aug. 16, 2025. Corey Sipkin for the NY Post Advertisement The Jets gained 47 yards on the ground and five by penalty before Nick Folk converted a 38-yard field goal. Welcome back to the Ground and Pound Era, which suffered a 31-12 loss in its infancy to the Giants. The offense played 19 snaps and did nothing to quash any concerns out of training camp about the under-construction passing attack. Fields connected on 1-of-5 passes for four yards, with his only completion coming when he used his athleticism to move the pocket on a rollout left and hit rookie tight end Mason Taylor moving toward the sideline. Advertisement 5 Breece Hall runs with the ball during the Jets' preseason loss to the Giants on Aug. 16. Corey Sipkin for the NY Post Despite some of the struggles in the passing game, Jets general manager Darren Mougey was impressed with how Fields is leading the offense. 'His approach is awesome,' Mougey said of Fields during an in-game interview on CBS. The worst of Fields' four incompletions? Advertisement That would be the one-hopper on a wide receiver screen that got Wilson unnecessarily knocked to the turf. 5 Justin Fields slides during the Jets' preseason loss to the Giants on Aug. 16. Bill Kostroun for the NY Post In fact, Fields and Wilson have not connected on any of four targets during two preseason games despite their excitement about joining forces again and re-establishing their Ohio State chemistry. The search for a second receiver that Fields trusts didn't gain any clarity, but Brandon Smith might have earned a bigger opportunity when he made four catches for 31 yards in the first half from backup quarterback Adrian Martinez. No wonder then that when the Jets faced a third-and-8 at their own-30-yard line — a passing situation under most NFL circumstances — the call was a draw to 235-pound back Braelon Allen, who powered his way to an 11-yard gain. In fact, the Jets' field goal drive started with five straight runs to the right side, including four by Breece Hall. Allen converted a third-and-1 after the third-and-8 — and probably should've been entrusted with the third-and-2, too. Advertisement Perhaps it was a sign of Engstrand just being in tune to an opponent's weaknesses given that the Giants haven't stopped the run over the last two seasons and it remains a big question even after a couple of significant offseason additions. More likely, it was a glimpse into the future. 5 Braelon Allen gets tackled during the Jets' preseason loss to the Giants on Aug. 16. Bill Kostroun for the NY Post 5 Braelon Allen takes a handoff during the Jets' preseason loss to the Giants on Aug. 16. Corey Sipkin for the NY Post Advertisement One year ago, the Jets ranked last in the NFL in rushing attempts — and the next-closest team to the bottom was the explosive (not a description that applied to Gang Green) Bengals. It's clear that's not going to be the case again with the Jets, who didn't have Isaiah Davis available due to injury. The Bears and Steelers averaged 153.1 rushing yards per game during Fields' first 44 career starts, according to ESPN. Advertisement NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky believes the Jets will have no worse than a top-five rushing attack while Fields also utilizes his backs on screen passes. Fields averages 50.2 rushing yards per game in his career, including a 1,143-yard season in 2022. 'I think we have a nice little three-headed monster,' Fields said during the week. 'The running back room is stacked, for sure.' Advertisement The question now becomes whether Fields plays Friday against the Eagles or if that was his last appearance of the preseason. With only four full practices left before Week 1, a skeptic might say that Fields and Engstrand need all the live reps together to balance out the offense before Sept. 7 against the Aaron Rodgers-led Steelers. Nothing during Saturday's first quarter would be enough to swap that opinion.

Rookie QB Jaxson Dart stars in his home preseason debut as the Giants beat the Jets 31-12
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Getting snaps with the first-team offense, then throwing for a touchdown and running for another with the backups, Jaxson Dart shined in his new home stadium debut for the New York Giants as part of a 31-12 victory against the Jets on Saturday night in each team's second preseason game. The rookie first-round pick whom the Giants envision as their long-term franchise quarterback got a chance to show a little bit of how he could contribute in the near future by subbing in for starter Russell Wilson mid-drive and connecting with Theo Johnson on a 30-yard pass. Dart capped a 71-yard second half-opening drive with a TD throw to Greg Dulcich and scored on a goal-line sneak to finish another after completing 13 consecutive passes. Dart was 14 of 16 for 137 yards, delivering on the hype under the lights at MetLife Stadium before giving way to Jameis Winston. Wilson had his own highlight, throwing his so-called 'moon ball' to undrafted free agent Beaux Collins for an 80-yard gain. The 36-year-old had another intercepted because of a miscommunication with Collins, his final throw of a 4 of 7, 108-yard performance. While the Giants (2-0) got clicking, questions remain on offense for Justin Fields and the Jets (1-1). He left after two run-heavy series 1 of 5 for 4 yards, with Nick Folk's 38-yard field goal the only points the starters got on the board. That performance came after Fields, signed to a two-year, $40 million deal to replace Aaron Rodgers, was 3 of 4 for 42 yards and a 13-yard TD run in the exhibition opener at Green Bay last Saturday. Fields and the Jets' passing offense have mostly struggled to produce consistently in training camp, but first-year coach Aaron Glenn has insisted that Fields is developing nicely and doing all that has been asked of him.
