Dubai South to develop $41m storm drains
The initiative forms part of the broader Tasreef project and supports Dubai's commitment to future-ready infrastructure that meets international standards and enhances urban resilience.
The agreement includes the construction of a new secondary stormwater tunnel, which will connect Dubai South's drainage network to Dubai Municipality's deep tunnel system via Expo Road.

This connection will significantly improve stormwater and surface runoff management, minimise flooding risks, and safeguard roads, buildings, and public assets.
The project ultimately contributes to a safer, more sustainable urban environment and enhances quality of life for residents and visitors.
The initiative aligns with the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and reflects the emirate's ongoing efforts to deliver robust infrastructure that anticipates the needs of its growing population.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said: 'Developing infrastructure in the emirate of Dubai, particularly stormwater drainage, remains one of Dubai Municipality's strategic priorities.
'This project reflects our integrated approach to managing surface water systems and reinforces our commitment to linking all areas of the emirate through a unified network of deep tunnels.
'These efforts fall under the Tasreef programme, the largest and most efficient initiative of its kind in the region, which aims to develop stormwater drainage networks for the next 100 years.

Tasreef is a long-term stormwater drainage development programme led by Dubai Municipality, with an estimated value of AED30bn ($8.2bn).
Scheduled for completion by 2033, the project will extend coverage to all areas of the emirate, increasing the network's drainage capacity by 700 per cent to manage over 20 million cubic metres of water per day.
The project will reduce construction and operating costs for pumping stations by 20 per cent and includes the design and construction of deep tunnel infrastructure with a maximum flow rate capacity of approximately four cubic metres per second.

Dubai traffic to ease: RTA to boost Ras Al Khor, Al Meydan traffic capacity by 50%
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is widening the right-turn lane for vehicles travelling from Ras Al Khor towards Al Meydan Street Interchange, a move expected to raise traffic capacity by 50 per cent. The works, scheduled for completion by August 10, will increase the number of lanes from two to three, improving flow between Ras Al Khor Industrial Area and Nad Al Sheba, and easing movement towards Al Meydan Street and surrounding areas. Abu Dhabi Department of Energy launches first vertical LPG tank system for food establishments
The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has rolled out the emirate's first vertical Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tank system for food establishments, replacing the traditional use of LPG cylinders with what it calls a safer and more efficient alternative. The system, with a capacity of up to 125 gallons, includes an explosion-proof vaporiser and is refilled on-site by licensed operators, removing the need to store or handle gas cylinders. Technical Bulletin No. (1/2025) was issued alongside the launch, detailing the technical requirements, safety standards, and regulatory conditions for installing the tanks in line with NFPA standards and the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code. Dr Saif Saeed Al Qubaisi, Acting Director General for Regulatory Affairs at DoE, siad: 'This initiative reflects the department's commitment to protecting individuals and communities by ensuring a safe operational environment for food establishments.' He added that gas remains an essential energy source for the sector. Er Ahmed Al Sheebani, Executive Director of the Petroleum Products Regulatory Affairs Sector at DoE, said: 'The project aims to establish a safer and more sustainable system, enabling food establishments to operate with confidence and reliability while serving customers in line with international best practices.' He noted the department's collaboration with licensed private sector operators for the approval and implementation of the system in line with the highest standards. The DoE urged food establishments, particularly those without access to underground gas networks or centralised LPG systems, to adopt the solution to ensure compliance with current and future regulatory requirements.
