Tulu Cultural Research Foundation

, is working closely with students from various colleges in the district to digitise Tulu language content and preserve the region's cultural heritage. As part of its initiatives, the foundation recently released the second edition of 'Jeetige', a beginner-friendly primer designed to help learners master the Tulu script.
Mahesh Mulki said, "TCRF is an independent social enterprise established to promote research on the themes of language, culture, and people. We aim to document, archive, and revive the intangible cultural values of Tulunadu through folklore research, publishing, and community engagement. Archiving is important, especially when there are efforts to make Tulu the second official language of the state."
In 2023, the foundation published the first edition of 'Jeetige', printing 1,000 copies. Encouraged by the response, they released an upgraded second edition this year with another 1,000 copies. "MP Capt Brijesh Chowta also picked up a few copies, which are priced at Rs 50 each," Mahesh said. Appreciating the effort, the MP called upon the public to make an effort to get closer to our mother tongue and the wisdom it holds in its tales and traditions.
Meanwhile, to address the challenge of scattered online resources on Tulunadu, TCRF launched a dedicated website, tulupedia.com. The website was developed by Akshay Rai, an engineering student. "While various platforms allow users to edit content, this often leads to the spread of misinformation. We aim to provide authentic, verified information, and for that, we are mainly collaborating with students," he said.

"Among the foundation's members is Prahlad Tantri, an engineering student in Mysuru, who contributed to developing Tulu fonts. Among others on the technical side are Deepak Padukone and Nishanth Ratnakar, who actively support the foundation's initiatives. The team also held a Tulu conclave this year, which will be an annual affair henceforth. We are also working on promoting Tulu culture through outreach programmes, publications, and events to educate the public," he added.

Over 260 children rescued in 16 months by RPF under ‘Operation Nanhe Farishte'
Nagpur: More than 260 children have found their way back home over the past 16 months thanks to Operation Nanhe Farishte, an initiative run by Railway Protection Force (RPF) under the Central Railway's Nagpur division. The initiative focuses on spotting and saving children who've run away, been trafficked, gone missing, or been abandoned at railway platforms and trains. From January 2024 to April 2025, RPF teams rescued 239 children — 116 boys and 85 girls in 2024, and 15 boys and 23 girls so far in 2025. Most had run away from home. Others were found wandering alone or had been deliberately left behind. Each case was different, but the response was always swift. Senior divisional security commandant Manoj Kumar said that trained RPF staff are now present at every post, trained to notice subtle signs — a child loitering alone, avoiding eye contact, or clutching a bag too tight. Once identified, the child is brought to a help desk where the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) is contacted. "CWC members counsel the child and take custody if needed," says Kumar. To back this on the ground, every RPF post now operates an Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), staffed by officers trained not only in law enforcement but also in how to handle distressed children. Regular psychological training sessions and monthly coordination meetings with the Government Railway Police (GRP) keep the system alert and adaptive. "It's not just about finding a child," Kumar adds. "It's about knowing what to look for, building trust, and handling that child with care. Sometimes it's the smallest detail — a hesitation, a story that doesn't add up — that makes all the difference."

From 108 to top 20: Nuh rises among aspirational districts
Gurgaon: Nuh has made a leap from 108th to 20th position among India's 112 most backward districts in the aspirational districts programme. Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini credited the transformation to focused development in education, health, nutrition, and infrastructure since 2018. Saini announced several initiatives during the Mewat development board meeting to further improve the quality of education and boost skill development in the district. The govt Model Sanskriti School will now be supervised by the Mewat development authority instead of the education department. Construction of the Unani medical college in Akera and the Mewat model college in Ferozepur Jhirka will begin soon with a fresh tender, while the driving training and research Institute in Chhapera will start in Oct. Two transit hostels will also be set up at Mewat Model School in Ferozepur Jhirka. It was also decided that a library with a seating capacity of 200 children will be built at the Nuh district headquarters. Students enrolling in professional, technical, tourism, paramedical, and PhD courses will receive Rs 75,000 per year or 75% of tuition fees, whichever is lower. Alumni renovate Suntikoppa govt school to improve education standards
Madikeri: Former students undertook an ambitious project to renovate a govt school with the aim of transforming it into an exemplary educational institution. The Suntikoppa Government Primary School, established 108 years ago, and the Suntikoppa High School, established 44 years ago, are being developed at a cost of Rs 12 lakh. Approximately 60% of the restoration work, including painting and woodwork, was completed. Key alumni members KH Sharif, Harish, Anil Kumar, C Mahendra, Razak, Abdul Aziz, Arun Kumar, Dhanu Kaverappa, Vincent, Shashikumar, and Kamal Haasan, alongside local donors from Suntikoppa and neighbouring areas, committed to elevating the school's standards to match private institutions.
