Oklahoma Sooners heavy favorites over Illinois State to open 2025 season
As one would imagine, the Oklahoma Sooners are the heavy favorite over FCS Illinois State with the line currently set at minus-35.5. Though Illinois State is one of the top 10 teams in the FCS heading into the season, this is a heavy mismatch, and the Sooners will be looking to prove a point right out of the gate.
Oklahoma's two high-profile transfer portal additions, John Mateer and Jaydn Ott, will take the field for the first time in an Oklahoma Sooners uniform. It'll be the first time we get to see Ben Arbuckle's offense on display on Owen Field, and one can imagine there will be some fireworks.
Defensively, the Sooners are expected to be one of the best in the nation in 2025. Led by their defensive front, Oklahoma isn't likely to give up a lot of points in this game against an overmatched Illinois State team.
Here's a look at the early odds for Oklahoma's season opener.

Texas A&M starting QB named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list
Texas A&M's quarterback room will now be led by redshirt sophomore Marcel Reed, who, outside of the secondary needing to improve, has been the primary question mark from those of us who cover the program, combined with national analysts. However, it's hard to judge Reed off of a relatively small body of work after trading for Conner Weigman last season, who has since transferred to Houston. Reed finished the season with 1,864 yards and 15 touchdowns, paired with 547 yards and seven scores on the ground. This summer, the Tennessee native geared his offseason training towards refining his passing, especially his release time and deep ball accuracy, which, if improved, will finally take Texas A&M's passing game to the next level. With the additions of KC Concepcion and Mario Craver from the transfer portal, the Aggies' separation issues should be solved based on both players' elite quickness and route-running prowess. Still, it's also on Reed to hit tight windows and play with confidence. Entering the final week of preseason play, Reed reportedly played well during the program's lone scrimmage and has already developed a rapport with his receiving corps. This week, Reed was named to the annual Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list, which has yet again proven that the national media has much more belief in his skill set heading into the 2025 season. No. 19 Texas A&M will open the 2025 season against UTSA on Saturday, August 30. The game will air at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN. Vele hauled in 41 receptions for 475 yards and three touchdowns last season. Denver will now move forward with Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims, Troy Franklin, Pat Bryant and Trent Sherfield. Popular Big Ten analyst predicts breakout season for Michigan State QB Aidan Chiles
A popular college football personality has made a bold prediction in favor of the Spartans and starting quarterback Aidan Chiles. A well known Big Ten personality and analyst on social media is expecting big things from Chiles this season. Ben Stevens -- also known as Big Ten Ben -- put out a bold prediction on Wednesday in favor of Chiles having a monster season in 2025. He is predicting that Chiles will lead the Big Ten in passing yards. That's quite the statement from Stevens, and one that would certainly mean big things happened for the Spartans this season if it comes true. Chiles threw for just shy of 2,500 yards last year in his first season as a starter. For some perspective of what it would take to lead the league in passing yards, Ohio State's Will Howard threw for just over 4,000 yards last season. So it would probably take at least that total to lead the league in passing this year for Chiles. Do I think this is possible for Chiles? Yes, I actually do think it is possible. Now is it likely? No, it's not and that's why it's a fun eye-grabbing bold prediction from Stevens. Chiles will get his first crack at putting up some big passing numbers in the opener against Western Michigan next week. Kickoff for the opener between the Spartans and Broncos from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on August 29.
