Five new Ford recalls announced: Which models are at risk? Here's a full list

Hindustan Times4 days ago

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that Ford Motor Company has announced five recalls involving 42,000 cars.
The recall applies to several popular models, for example, the F-150 and Escape and concerns risks of both fire and accidents.
Vehicles affected: 30,679
Ford says the 2024 Ford Nautilus' multimedia software may cause your screens, including the speedometer and warning indicators, to go blank or reboot at random. That means you might not be able to see your speed or detect other vehicle warnings, which increases the risk of an accident.
Ford will update the software either at a dealership or over the air, free of charge.
Notification date: 16 June
Recall number: 25C21

Vehicles affected: 192
This small but serious recall involves all-electric 2022 F-150 Lightning trucks equipped with 20- or 22-inch all-season tires. Ford says a previous recall (22V-453) may have been incorrectly handled, causing the tire pressure monitoring system to fail.
Often, the system in your car fails to let you know if your tires are underinflated, which makes a crash more likely, they claim.
The automobile giant said a software update will fix the issue for free.
Notification date: 23 June
Recall number: 25C20
Vehicles affected: 6,781
This recall includes several SUVs, including the 2024–2025 Lincoln Nautilus, 2023–2025 Escape, and certain Bronco Sport and Maverick models. The risk? The engine block heater could overheat and catch fire while the vehicle is parked.
Now, Ford dealers will have to replace the heater element and check or replace the cord for free.
Notification date: 6 June
Recall number: 25S52
Vehicles affected: 154
Ford says some 2025 Transit, F-150, and Explorer models may have engine parts with manufacturing defects. These could result in sudden engine failure and even crashes.
'The connecting rod and rod bearing components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure,' NHTSA warned.
Ford is still looking into this matter.
Notification date: June 9
Recall number: 25S55

Vehicles affected: 1,797
2020–2023 Escape, 2021–2023 Corsair, or 2022–2023 Maverick with a 2.5L HEV or PHEV engine at risk of engine failure, especially those cars that were previously repaired under recall 23V380.
Owners are advised not to keep driving and should stop with the engine off if they notice unusual engine sounds, a loss of power, or smoke.
Ford promised a free update to the powertrain control module software.

Indian students made up one in four international students in US in 2024: ICE report

Indian students accounted for nearly 27% of all international students in the United States in 2024, according to the latest report by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The report, titled SEVIS by the Numbers 2024, shows that 4.2 lakh Indian students were actively enrolled in the US, marking an 11.8% increase from 2023. This growth helped push the total number of foreign students in the US to 15.8 lakh — a 5.3% rise over the previous year. As per a report by Lubna Kably in the Times of India, the data comes from the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), a tool used by the US Department of Homeland Security to track foreign students. F-1 visas are issued for academic programs, while M-1 visas are used for vocational training. Asia remained the largest source region, with nearly 11 lakh students — making up 72% of the total foreign student population. India and China were the two top source countries. While Indian student numbers rose sharply, China saw a slight decline of 0.25%, with 3.2 lakh students in 2024. The ICE report highlights that more than 90% of foreign students — about 14.3 lakh — were enrolled in higher education degree programs. California and New York were the top destinations for international students, hosting 2.37 lakh and 1.72 lakh students respectively. (Join our ETNRI WhatsApp channel for all the latest updates) However, new data for the March 2024 to March 2025 period suggests a sharp reversal in trend. Chris R. Glass, a professor at Boston College, studied SEVIS data and reported an 11.3% drop in total active international student records. The number fell from 11.53 lakh in March 2024 to 10.22 lakh in March 2025. In contrast, Chinese student numbers rose slightly to 2.63 lakh, an increase of 3.28%. Glass said, 'The current year-over-year decline is a reflection of an enrollment cycle that began under the Biden administration, so the March 2025 numbers have yet to reflect any impacts of policies implemented under the second Trump administration.' Experts point to several reasons for the recent fall in Indian student numbers — including the arbitrary termination of F-1 visas and SEVIS records, legal uncertainties, delays in consular services due to planned social media scrutiny rules, doubts about the continuation of the STEM-OPT program, and widespread layoffs in the US job market. These factors could push student numbers further down in 2026. Despite recent declines, Indian students continue to lead in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. In 2024, nearly 1.65 lakh international students received a two-year STEM OPT extension after graduation. Of these, 48% were Indian students and 20.4% were Chinese. About 1.94 lakh international students in 2024 had employment authorization and were working in the US under the OPT program, a 21.1% rise from 2023. These figures reflect both the growing interest of Indian students in the US and the challenges they now face amid changing visa policies and immigration uncertainties. Fighter jets, missiles, iPhones, EVs... China has been kind to US... Should India be worried?

Fighter, missile, iPhone, EV... China has been kind to US... Should India be worried? US President Donald Trump has claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping has agreed to send rare earths and magnets. This move can reduce tensions between the world's two largest economies. Amid the tension over tariffs, China imposed export control on such minerals on April 4. Magnets made of rare earth elements are very important and are used in iPhones, electric vehicles, fighter aircraft like F-35 and missile systems. China has complete control over their supply and has stopped the supply of rare earth magnets to the US as well as India. When asked Trump whether Chinese President Xi Jinping had agreed to export rare earths? Trump replied, 'Yes, they have agreed.' However, the Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately comment on this. Trump's statement comes a day after a rare conversation with Xi Jinping. In another sign of easing tensions over the issue, China has granted temporary export licences to rare earth suppliers to the top three US automobile companies. US officials will meet Chinese officials in London on Monday for further talks. Political pressure 'We have made great progress on the deal with China,' Trump said. The two countries reached an agreement in Geneva, Switzerland on May 12. Under this, most of the heavy tariffs imposed on each other since Trump took office in January were agreed to be rolled back for 90 days. Financial markets, worried about trade disruptions, were excited by the news. But China decided to suspend exports of several critical minerals and magnets in April. This disrupted the supply of essential goods to automobile companies, computer chip makers and military contractors around the world. Trump accused China of violating the Geneva agreement. He ordered a ban on chip-design software and other shipments to China. Beijing rejected the claim and threatened retaliation. Rare earths and other critical minerals are a weapon for China. If companies have trouble making mineral-based products and economic growth slows, Trump could face domestic political pressure. US has got relief but Indian auto companies are facing a lot of trouble. Nine Indian companies making auto components have got the application for import passed from the Chinese embassy. Despite this, the supply has not started. China's Commerce Ministry has not yet given approval for this. These magnets are very important for electric vehicles. They are also used in parts like gear system and drive train.

This new technology promises faster charging and reliable performance, shaping how vehicles function

The automotive industry is adapting to the fast changing technological landscape. The mode of transportation has transformed over the decades, be it in terms of design, features or technology. Now, a Chinese company named CATL has come up with a battery that could change the way people use electric cars. This new battery can charge much faster than the ones most electric cars use today. The idea is to make charging almost as quick as filling petrol in a regular car. With this new battery, they are trying to make electric cars more practical for everyday use. It gives around 323 miles (520 kms) of driving range after just five minutes of charging. That means less waiting at charging stations and more time driving. It also works well in cold conditions, still charging fast even when temperatures are very low. CATL shared this new battery just before a big motor show in Shanghai. The company is known for supplying batteries to big car brands like Tesla, Ford and General Motors. Even in freezing weather, the battery can go from five percent to eighty percent in just fifteen minutes. This is helpful for people who live in cold places where batteries usually charge slowly. Along with this battery, CATL also revealed two more ideas. One is a battery system that combines two different types of cells to offer a very long range of up to 932 miles (1500 kms). The second is a sodium-ion battery. This one is better for the environment and keeps most of its power even when temperatures fall very low. These new battery upgrades can make life easier for people who drive every day. Faster charging means electric cars are more convenient and practical, encouraging more people to choose them instead of petrol vehicles. These batteries also offer strong performance in all seasons, even during very cold weather. For people who drive every day, these upgrades could mean shorter charging times and more reliable performance all year round. Charging quickly makes it easier to own an electric vehicle and gives people one more reason to switch from fuel-powered cars.
