Spirit Airlines stock craters on warning it could go out of business
'The Company has continued to be affected by adverse market conditions, including elevated domestic capacity and continued weak demand for domestic leisure travel in the second quarter of 2025, resulting in a challenging pricing environment,' Spirit said in its second quarter financial disclosure. 'As a result, the Company continues to experience challenges and uncertainties in its business operations and expects these trends to continue for at least the remainder of 2025.'
Though the company was trying to alleviate its financial situation with initiatives such as pilot furloughs, selling spare engines, and potential sales of aircraft, real estate, and excess airport gate capacity, the 'uncertainty of successfully completing the initiatives" meant that management felt there was 'substantial doubt as to the Company's ability to continue as a going concern' over the next 12 months.
Spirit Aviation shares cratered over 40% in midday trade.
Spirit's bumpy ride
Spirit Aviation Holdings emerged from the financial restructuring of Spirit Airlines on March 12, and has faced a difficult time ever since.
The bankruptcy was brought on following a failed takeover by JetBlue Airlines, with both airlines citing regulatory issues standing in the way of the merger both desired. This followed Spirit rejected overtures from budget operator Frontier earlier in the year, after Frontier rejected Spirit's counteroffer.
Spirit's reorganization resulted in taking on $795 million in debt and brought in $350 million in new equity and set up a $275 million credit line.
It is the minimum liquidity requirements of Spirit's debt obligations, and collateral required by Spirit's credit card processing agreements that have Spirit in bind, because those agreements require Spirit's operations to improve faster than the company anticipated.
New CEO Dave Davis has been implementing the current strategy of appealing to higher-spending travelers with a premium economy program, updating Spirit's frequent flyer program, and announcing new partnerships with other airlines and travel businesses to boost demand.
But the company ended up booking only $1.02 billion in revenue in the just completed quarter, resulting in a net income loss of $245.83 million, and loss per share of $7.24.
Excess capacity, especially with budget conscious consumers, has been an industry problem for some time now.
Delta (DAL) CEO Ed Bastian told Yahoo Finance last month that the industry is going to reward airlines like that have invested in premium services, particularly those that can deliver that experience at the right price.
'That's been a big change in the industry that is 100 years old,' Bastian said about the growing trend of premium services. 'The carriers that have invested heavily in reliability, products, service offerings are the ones that are able to price for it, and [they] give consumers the value and experience they want.'

Enovix Shareholder Third Reminder: Early Warrant Expiration Price Condition
Enovix Warrants: 17 of 17 Trading Days Above $10.50 FREMONT, Calif., Aug. 13, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Enovix Corporation (Nasdaq: ENVX, ENVXW) ('Company' or 'Enovix'), a leader in advanced silicon battery technology, today announced that the price of its common stock has exceeded $10.50 for seventeen consecutive trading days since the distribution of the warrants to purchase common stock (the 'Warrants'), currently traded on Nasdaq under ENVXW. Today's closing price for Enovix common stock was $10.98 per share and the Warrants remain $2.23 in-the-money based on their $8.75 per share exercise price. As a reminder, under the Warrant Agreement, if our stock trades at or above $10.50 on any 20 out of 30 trading days, the Warrants could expire as early as 5 p.m. New York City time the next business day. The earliest expiration date for the Warrants remains August 19, 2025, subject to Enovix common stock continuing to trade above $10.50 for 20 of 30 trading days in accordance with the Warrant Agreement. Ryan Benton, Chief Financial Officer, stated, 'The strong pace of exercises to date has already delivered meaningful proceeds to support our growth initiatives, and we appreciate the many shareholders who have taken action. We encourage all remaining holders to make timely decisions regarding their Warrants. We've now completed 17 consecutive trading days above $10.50. If current levels hold, there may be as few as three more trading days before we meet the early expiration threshold. Any unexercised Warrants remaining after the expiration date will be worthless and canceled.' This process will be detailed further in a future notice, but it will require submission of the related notice and payment of the exercise price for the Warrants prior to the expiration of the warrants. While the Company, in its discretion, will make every effort to accommodate exercises submitted in good faith by the expiration date, we encourage all Warrant holders to ensure their Warrants are traded or exercised on a timely basis. Processing procedures and timelines may vary by broker or the institution holding your Warrants, so prompt action is recommended. NY attorney general sues Zelle's parent company after Trump administration drops similar case
NEW YORK (AP) — New York's attorney general on Wednesday sued the parent company of the Zelle payment platform, months after the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau abandoned a similar case as the Trump administration was gutting the agency. Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, sued Early Warning Services in New York state court, alleging that the company, which is owned by a group of U.S. banks, had failed to protect users from fraud by not including critical safety features in Zelle's design. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau earlier this year dropped a similar case after President Donald Trump fired the agency's leader and his administration halted nearly all the bureau's work, closed its headquarters and moved to fire many of its workers. In a statement, James' office noted that its suit was filed after the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau abandoned its lawsuit following a 'change in the federal administration.' 'No one should be left to fend for themselves after falling victim to a scam,' James said in a statement. 'I look forward to getting justice for the New Yorkers who suffered because of Zelle's security failures.' James has been a leading antagonist of Trump, a Republican, and has sued him dozens of times. Last week, The Associated Press and other news outlets reported that the Justice Department has subpoenaed James as part of an investigation into whether she violated Trump's civil rights, according to people familiar with the matter. James' case against Early Warning Services alleged that Zelle, which allows users to send and receive near-instant money transfers, failed to include adequate verification processes. Her office said scammers were able to access peoples' accounts or trick users into sending money to bogus accounts that posed as official businesses. In one instance cited by the attorney general's office, a Zelle user got a call from someone posing as an employee of the utility company Con Edison who told the user that his electricity was going to be shut off unless he sent them money through Zelle. The user then transferred about $1,500 to a Zelle account named 'Coned Billing" and then realized he had been scammed but was told by his bank that he could not get his money back, James' office said. In a statement issued through a spokesperson, Zelle called James' lawsuit 'a political stunt to generate press, not progress.' 'The Attorney General should focus on the hard facts, stopping criminal activity and adherence to the law, not overreach and meritless claims,' the statement said. The Associated Press

Greenlane expands EV charging corridor to Phoenix
Greenlane announced it is establishing a second commercial electric vehicle (EV) charging corridor, this one connecting Southern California to Phoenix via Interstate 10. This comes as the company recently launched its flagship charging center in Colton, Calif., situated next to San Bernardino, in the heart of California's Inland Empire. The Colton location will serve as the anchor for this new corridor and is centrally located to support its first EV corridor, connecting Southern California to Las Vegas via the I-15 corridor. 'As the 15 goes up to Vegas and the 10 goes over to Phoenix, it's centrally located to support and service both corridors. Eventually, we're going to open up in Blythe and in Phoenix, and that will allow us to have key positions on the corridor. This enables trucks to go from location to location, ensuring they get a full charge without range anxiety,' said Patrick Macdonald-King, CEO of Greenlane, in an interview with FreightWaves. In addition to the corridor expansion, Greenlane also announced a new strategic partnership with EV truck maker and OEM Windrose Technology. Windrose recently validated the viability of long-haul electric trucking when it successfully completed single-charge journeys from Colton to Phoenix. On how the Windrose trucks are able to make the single-charge trip, one factor is in their charging setup. 'They can take an intake of about 800 kilowatt-hours per hour at our sites by putting two CCS chargers on either side of the truck. With their range, they've been able to do a single charge and go from Colton all the way to Phoenix, which has been very impressive. … They've been running the tests with fully loaded cargo. I believe it was about 75,000 pounds of what they were hauling across the corridor … real-world examples of technology and innovation at work,' added Macdonald-King. 'Achieving nearly 300 miles with a GCWR of 74,420 pounds on a single charge with 12% battery left proves that electric long-haul trucking isn't just theory—it's proven real-world performance,' added Wen Han, founder and CEO of Windrose Technology, in the press release. To handle the growth and expansion, the company is implementing forward-thinking infrastructure that can be upgraded to accommodate megawatt charging as the technology becomes available. At its Colton facility, Greenlane deployed 'Trenwa' tunneling throughout the site, allowing for cable upgrades without trenching. This will become important later as more companies switch from CCS to megawatt charging stations. That transition to full megawatt charging will not happen overnight, but it helps to be prepared. 'It depends on how much future planning you're doing on each site,' Macdonald-King said. 'A lot of the sites we're moving forward on into 2026-2027, we're going straight to megawatt charging because the trucks are coming out the following year.' The new corridor will also support Nevoya, an electric trucking company that plans to operate battery-electric trucks along both the I-10 and I-15 corridors. Greenlane anticipates opening the first location on this corridor by 2026, with two locations expected to be operational by the end of that year. 'Overall, we're excited about it. We're working with partners like Navistar and others, and they're very interested in the corridor. We've had a number of customers give us commitments to that corridor, which is why we've been focused on it. We're planning on getting that going, opening the first location probably in 2026, and hopefully two locations by the end of the year to service it,' Macdonald-King said. Greenlane is a joint venture between Daimler Truck, NextEra Energy and BlackRock. The post Greenlane expands EV charging corridor to Phoenix appeared first on FreightWaves.
